Summoner of Nightmares
Chapter 60: The Birth of Deeper Nightmares
The hotel felt wrong after they vanished.
Too quiet.
Too empty.
Even with the sounds of distant repair crews, creaking pipes, and groaning walls, the Nightmare Grand Hotel no longer felt complete.
Because part of its family was missing.
Gene Gingerline stood motionless in the destroyed library long after the portal closed.
Rain dripped steadily through the shattered ceiling.
Blood stained the carpets.
Shredded books floated in puddles of water and ash.
The chaos armor slowly shifted across Gene’s body, still restless from battle.
Hungry.
Waiting.
Gene stared at the place where Lilith had disappeared.
Then finally exhaled slowly.
He wasn’t panicking.
That surprised him a little.
No.
He was angry.
Very angry.
And the worst part?
He realized something important during the attack.
He had been holding back.
Far too much.
The cult had invaded his home.
Threatened his family.
Taken people under his protection.
And somehow they still believed they were the monsters in control.
Gene slowly looked around the ruined library.
“…Yeah.”
The slime armor rippled darkly across his shoulders.
“I’ve been way too nice.”
⸻
Rebuilding the Hotel
The rest of the day became controlled chaos.
Repair crews rushed through the damaged halls.
Hired workers carried debris away in wheelbarrows.
Summons dragged broken furniture through the corridors.
The hotel itself almost seemed embarrassed by the destruction.
Gene walked through the lobby issuing orders calmly while still coated in shifting black armor.
Everyone moved faster when they saw his expression.
Even the monsters.
“Seal the eastern corridors.”
“Repair the library ceiling first.”
“Move surviving cultist corpses to the science lab.”
“Do NOT let Chomper eat anymore of them.”
From nearby came an offended mimic noise.
Gene pointed without looking.
“I mean it.”
The mimic chest slowly closed again in disappointment.
Mother Sarah approached silently beside him.
Her habit slightly stained with blood.
The glowing silver in her eyes hadn’t faded completely yet.
“You are upset.”
Gene glanced at her.
“Is it that obvious?”
“You ripped a man in half with your bare hands.”
Mother Sarah folded her hands neatly.
“What do you plan to do next?”
Gene stared quietly at the workers rebuilding the hotel.
Then turned and walked toward the lower halls.
“Come with me.”
⸻
The Summoning Chamber
Deep beneath the hotel, the summoning chamber pulsed with ancient energy.
Blue runes illuminated the darkness softly.
The massive summoning machine hummed quietly like a sleeping god.
Gene stood before it while Mother Sarah watched silently nearby.
The room felt colder tonight.
The machine almost seemed to react to Gene’s emotions.
The summoner slowly placed both hands against the control console.
“You know…”
His voice echoed softly through the chamber.
“I think I’ve been thinking too small.”
Mother Sarah tilted her head slightly.
“How so?”
Gene laughed quietly.
“I kept making monsters.”
His eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
“When I should’ve been building horror systems.”
The summoning machine glowed brighter.
Gene began typing descriptions into the ancient interface.
Detailed.
Careful.
Dangerous.
⸻
The Three Sisters of the Deep Chapel
The machine activated violently.
Dark light flooded the chamber.
Then—
Three figures emerged slowly from the mist.
All three wore dark nun habits similar to Mother Sarah’s.
But different.
Distinct.
The first nun was impossibly tall and thin.
Her skin pale gray.
Her veil constantly moved as though underwater.
Dozens of tiny eyes blinked beneath the cloth.
The second looked almost beautiful at first glance.
Until one noticed her arms were slightly too long.
And they bent in impossible angles.
Her smile stretched impossibly wide.
The third appeared the smallest.
Youngest.
Quietest.
But shadows beneath her feet constantly moved as if it were bubbling.
Moving completely Independently.
Gene studied them carefully.
System notifications appeared immediately.
NEW HORROR FACTION CREATED
THE DEEP CHAPEL
RELIGIOUS FEAR SYSTEM UNLOCKED
Mother Sarah stared at the three new nuns silently.
Then gave a small approving nod.
“They will serve well.”
Gene crossed his arms.
“You all need a place of worship.”
⸻
The Haunted Church
The world creation interface opened before him.
Gene expanded the horror world further.
A massive plot of dark land appeared near the outskirts of the mainland of Mystic Blood Valley.
Then the construction began.
Stone rose upward from the earth.
Gigantic black towers stretched toward the sky.
Stained glass windows formed depicting strange sea entities and endless eyes watching from darkness.
Massive bells hung from twisted iron frames.
An entire cathedral emerged.
Not holy.
Not comforting.
Something older.
Something wrong.
The Deep Chapel.
Thunder rolled across the sky as the building finished materializing.
A thick fog permeated the base of the church.
Then Gene went further.
He created followers.
Priests.
Worshippers.
Caretakers.
NPC civilians began developing around the church district automatically.
And with them—
A religion rose.
System prompts flashed rapidly.
HORROR RELIGION GENERATED
FAITH OF THE ABYSSAL SLEEPER
THE LEDGER OF THE CREATOR DISCOVERED
ABYSSAL BELIEF SYSTEM ACTIVE
Gene leaned back slightly.
“…Okay that will do for now.”
Mother Sarah watched the growing church silently.
“The people already fear it.”
Indeed they did.
Even distant NPC townsfolk avoided looking directly at the cathedral.
Rumors spread immediately through the horror world.
Whispers of dreams.
Voices from oceans that did not exist.
Prayers heard beneath the earth.
Gene smiled slowly.
Perfect.
⸻
The Egg
Then Gene made a mistake.
Or possibly the greatest decision of his life.
He still wasn’t sure which.
The summoning machine pulsed again.
This time Gene entered a far more dangerous concept.
Something ancient.
Cosmic.
Impossible.
Not truly Cthulhu.
Not the genuine mythic being.
The system likely couldn’t even contain something like that.
Instead—
A vessel.
An echo.
A fragment capable of growth.
The machine groaned violently during the process.
Warning lights flashed repeatedly.
WARNING
ELDRITCH CONCEPT DETECTED
STABILITY UNCERTAIN
Gene ignored the warnings.
The chamber darkened completely.
Then—
An egg appeared.
It stood nearly six feet tall.
Black-green in color.
Covered in slowly moving symbols.
Something inside shifted.
Breathing.
Watching.
Even Mother Sarah stared cautiously at it.
The system notification appeared slowly.
ABYSSAL EGG CREATED
STATUS: DORMANT
Gene swallowed slightly.
“…Cool.”
Then the egg pulsed.
Everyone in the room briefly heard distant underwater screaming.
Gene immediately pointed at it.
“Yep. Definitely containing that thing properly.”
⸻
The Evolution of the Caretaker
Gene stood before The Caretaker sometime later.
The giant summon remained silent as always.
But his new black mask reflected the eerie chamber lights beautifully.
Beside him stood Jesse Belle.
She crossed her arms while eyeing the abyssal egg warily.
“That thing’s givin’ bad vibes, sugar.”
Gene nodded.
“Same.”
Then he carefully removed two fragments from the egg.
Not physical pieces exactly.
More like glowing embryonic masses of eldritch energy.
Tiny incomplete hearts.
They pulsed slowly in his hands.
“The system says these can be integrated safely.”
Jesse Belle raised an eyebrow.
“Safely by whose standards?”
Gene paused.
“…Questionable ones for the most part.”
“That’s what I was afraid of.”
The Caretaker simply held out one massive hand.
Gene stared at him carefully.
“You sure?”
The giant nodded once.
Without hesitation.
Gene slowly pressed the fragment into the center of the Caretaker’s chest.
The eldritch mass melted directly into him.
Instantly—
The hotel shook.
The Caretaker’s body jerked violently.
Black veins spread beneath his skin.
Something moved beneath the surface of his mask.
The lights dimmed.
A distant whale-like roar echoed from nowhere.
System alerts exploded across Gene’s vision.
EVOLUTION INITIATED
ELDRITCH MUTATION COMPATIBLE
The Caretaker slowly straightened afterward.
Taller.
Broader.
The shadows around him now moved unnaturally.
Tentacle-like shapes occasionally emerged behind him before vanishing again.
Even his cleaver had changed.
Tiny eye-like symbols blinked briefly along the blade.
Jesse Belle whistled softly.
“Well.”
The Caretaker tilted his head toward her gently.
Gene held out the second fragment.
“You next.”
Jesse Belle sighed dramatically.
“If I turn into one of them there hentai monsters, I’m blamin’ you.”
She accepted the fragment anyway.
The eldritch energy merged into her heart instantly.
Unlike the Caretaker, her transformation remained subtler.
Her horns grew slightly larger.
Her pupils became vertical slits.
And shadows now coiled faintly around her boots.
She blinked slowly afterward.
“…I think I hear the ocean.”
“There is no ocean here.”
“I know that.”
A pause.
“…That’s a bit concerning.”
⸻
The Facility Beneath the Church
Gene’s mind kept racing.
Bigger ideas.
Stronger defenses.
Deeper horrors.
If the cult wanted war—
Then he would build something capable of surviving apocalypse-level threats.
The world interface opened again.
Gene selected the land beneath the Deep Chapel.
Then he started designing.
Straight downward.
Miles downward.
Massive underground laboratories formed beneath the church.
Steel corridors.
Containment chambers.
Research sectors.
Armories.
Biological testing facilities.
Power generators.
Train systems.
Hidden escape routes.
The underground complex stretched endlessly beneath the world like a buried civilization.
Gene integrated magical and technological systems together.
The science couple would absolutely love this place.
Then came the most dangerous addition.
Artificial Intelligence.
Gene designed the AI carefully.
Very carefully.
Not fully independent.
Not unrestricted.
He remembered enough sci-fi horror movies to avoid obvious mistakes.
The central AI core materialized inside the deepest chamber.
A massive floating sphere surrounded by cables and glowing runes.
System alerts immediately appeared.
FACILITY OVERSEER CREATED
DESIGNATION REQUIRED
Gene thought for a moment.
“…Athena.”
The sphere illuminated softly.
GREETINGS CREATOR
Gene connected the AI directly to his chaos helmet systems.
Instantly streams of information flooded his vision.
Facility layouts.
Security alerts.
Containment statuses.
Resource tracking.
Threat analysis.
Gene nearly stumbled from sensory overload.
“…Whoa.”
Athena’s voice echoed calmly through the connection.
SAFEGUARDS ACTIVE
LIMITERS CONFIRMED
USER AUTHORITY ABSOLUTE
Gene exhaled slowly.
Good.
No evil AI uprising today.
Hopefully.
⸻
Eight Hours Later
Gene had barely noticed time passing.
He kept designing.
Improving.
Expanding.
Defense drones.
Containment beasts.
Emergency lockdown systems.
New horror concepts.
Ideas that spiraled endlessly through his mind.
The summoning world continued evolving around him.
At some point he sat down beside a holographic map of the underground facility while sketching possible biological horror weapons.
“…Maybe adding living flesh walls are too much…”
A phone suddenly rang beside him.
Gene blinked.
“…Huh?”
He answered absentmindedly.
“Hank?”
Hank sounded amused.
“You alive down there boss?”
Gene rubbed his eyes.
“What time is it?”
“Almost Dinner time. Chef told me to call you up.”
Gene frowned.
“That doesn’t sound right… how long have I been down here?”
“You’ve been down there for… about eight hours.”
Silence.
“…Seriously?”
“Yep.”
Gene looked around the chamber blankly.
He genuinely hadn’t noticed.
Hank chuckled softly.
“Oh. Also...”
Gene stood slowly.
“What?”
“The kidnapped people came back.”
Silence.
Gene blinked.
“…Excuse me?”
“They’re in the lobby.”
Another pause.
“…say again?”
Hank laughed openly now.
“Apparently the little one ripped open a portal because the cult didn’t have snacks.”
Gene stared into space for several seconds.
Then slowly pinched the bridge of his nose.
“…Of course she could do that.”
His stomach suddenly growled violently.
Gene blinked again.
“Oh.”
Right.
Food.
Apparently he hadn’t eaten anything all day either.
Hank sounded smug now.
“Told the chef you’d meet everybody at the kitchen table.”
Gene sighed tiredly while dismissing the world interface.
“Thanks.”
The underground facility lights dimmed automatically around him.
“I’ll be coming up in a minute.”
Then Gene glanced once more toward the massive eldritch egg resting silently in its containment chamber.
Something inside shifted slightly.
Watching him.
Waiting.
Gene smiled faintly.
“Tomorrow’s probably gonna be awful.”
Athena responded immediately.
STATISTICALLY PROBABLE
“…thanks.”
