Chapter 1977: Massacre

"In that case, who will be the one commanding our force? Fighting like this without any commands will definitely devastate us." The Jade Emperor asked. "Anyone willing to lower themselves?"

"..." They fell silent. Judging from their expressions, no one wanted to do it for the sake of their own people. The moment they lowered themselves, they would be looked down upon by others.

Lord Vishnu said, "If no one is willing, then I don’t mind accepting that condition. However, I don’t wish to accept any foolish orders. I am not doing this because of my pride or anything. If my pride ends up killing my own people, I would rather not have pride."

"Vishnu..." Shiva frowned.

"It is fine." Lord Vishnu nodded carefully.

"..." Zeus just crossed his arms. Odin was doing the same thing. Both of these old men had no intention of following other people’s orders.

As the emperor, the Jade Emperor couldn’t lower himself, even though it sounded a bit foolish.

In fact, the only one that decided to do it was Vishnu.

Quetzalcoatl paused for a moment before saying, "In that case, how about this? Since no one is willing to lower themselves other than him. Why don’t we just bring our own army and fight in our own spots? We will mobilize our elites and focus on that."

"That sounds better." Zeus nodded. "Just split up and hit them. It’s not like they’re coming from one source."

"I don’t have any objections." Odin also agreed.

The Jade Emperor smiled. "In that case, let’s do that. We will focus on weakening the enemy. If you need help or anything, try to ask for reinforcements from the nearest forces. However, we need to set something up. We need rules to know which direction we’re going."

"How about this?" Odin raised his hand. "There are three simple rules. First, no retreat unless the council has decided to retreat. Second, don’t kill them in another territory. If the aliens end up reaching another territory, you have to go back. Third, if conflicts happen, each of us will calm them down and settle the dispute later."

"Sounds good to me." Ra agreed. "In that case, there’s no more objection?"

Now that everyone had agreed to their battle plan, they immediately mobilized their respective armies.

Looking at this scene, Loki only sighed. "They didn’t want to lower themselves. They thought they were the best, so they should be the leaders. Luckily, they didn’t argue too much. It would have been chaotic if they had ended up unleashing their power just to get the commander position. Unfortunately, that’s not enough."

Loki snapped his fingers. The scenery changed to outer space, but this wasn’t the one they were currently in. Still, the scenery looked similar because they were already near the first ancient battlefield.

Vishnu was sitting on top of Garuda, leading the fight with Shiva. There were many lesser gods behind them, but there weren’t many notable figures.

Even Nathan had a hard time recognizing them because it was hard to get the list of names of lesser gods. Besides, the myth might not fully cover their names as well.

Next to them was the Jade Emperor with his celestial army. Nathan could see a few figures he could recognize, such as Erlang Shen, Heaven’s greatest warrior-god. There was also Taibai Jinxing, the Venus Star God, who was known as the aide of the Jade Emperor.

Each mythology brought its respective armies, but mostly composed of lesser gods. They didn’t want to show their cards openly, which also meant they were underestimating their opponents.

It finally began. The battle started fiercely.

The gods were overwhelming the aliens without any trouble.

Erland Shen cut down the aliens without any problems, advancing far deep within the enemy lines. The others didn’t want to lose, so they were doing the same thing, trying to show each other that they were the superior ones.

But as soon as they started getting complacent, the aliens began their counterattack.

All of a sudden, portals formed near the advanced parties.

"!!!" There were some who actually sensed the portals and tried to warn the others.

One portal in particular actually summoned an outer god. The outer god was launching itself toward Erlang Shen.

"General!" The army was trying to stop the alien. Erlang Shen harrumphed and swung his spear, stopping the attack.

Unfortunately for him, before he could cut off their momentum, the alien suddenly unleashed its true power.

"!!!" Erlang was startled. ’This power...’

He had seen this kind of power before. This level of power was similar to that of the Jade Emperor.

When he was trying to get away, the alien released its own supernatural ability and locked his movements.

At the same time, the alien wielded the power of dark matter. Erlang was about to hit it away, but he suddenly spat a mouthful of blood.

It turned out that two portals had appeared behind him, and the tentacles had pierced his heart and abdomen.

"W-What?" Erlang was in shock. He couldn’t even see it coming, despite being the strongest general.

He suddenly realized that there was a monster stronger than even the Jade Emperor lurking around the battlefield.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t say anything because he died before he could even utter another word. His body split into five as he died.

The same thing was happening all over the battlefield. With Erlang Shen gone, there was no one commanding the celestial army. In the end, they started getting decimated by the aliens. The others were the same.

They were sending forth their own commanders to take them down, but they all died without accomplishing anything. The only survivor among them was actually Shiva.

Still, the loss of the army and the gods was simply too big. This wasn’t a war. It was practically a massacre.

Shiva gritted his teeth and shouted, "Get away from here. Retreat! Retreat!"

He didn’t hesitate to charge in, trying to stop the massacre. His fist caused so much destruction that a few nearby planets ended up getting destroyed. In fact, a few tentacles sent by Yog-Sothoth had actually been destroyed by him.

However, because of the massacre, the first campaign was definitely a failure.
