Chapter 2327: Chapter 2328: Entering the City
Now, it’s injured and hasn’t fully recovered yet. Naturally, Lin Chen wouldn’t demand it to carry him flying, anyway there’s plenty of time to return to Qingmu City.
Furthermore, that Lu Kang doesn’t seem to have caught up, so it’s better to let Xiaobai rest well.
"Brother Lin, your beast is quite peculiar. Though its ferocity remains, it’s extremely gentle towards those familiar, but its strength is the most terrifying..."
Tang Ming asked in puzzlement as he led Lin Chen towards Qingmu City.
Tang Ming naturally had a deep impression of this Xiaobai; after all, if not for Xiaobai’s help earlier, he and Jiang Ningyan wouldn’t have been able to escape here.
Though he doesn’t know about the intensity there, judging by the time it took Lin Chen and the others to arrive, this time’s foe wasn’t easy.
"It does have a certain spirituality and is very loyal."
Lin Chen smiled lightly and gently stroked Xiaobai lying on his shoulder. There were several instances where, if not for Xiaobai, he would have long been a dead soul under someone else’s blade, unable to persevere for this long.
Perhaps due to Lin Chen’s comments or the rough palm stroking its fur, Xiaobai’s ears twitched slightly.
...
The journey was quite long; Lin Chen and the others walked for nearly a night and another day. By the evening of the second day, Lin Chen finally saw the scenery beyond the forest.
Looking around, it was a land where sand and gravel danced with the breeze. On the yellow soil, people hurriedly passed through, whipping their steeds occasionally as if in a great rush.
"Brother Lin, we might have to hurry. When darkness falls, they’ll close the city gates."
Tang Ming pointed into the distance, where a massive city occupying dozens of miles lay. From Lin Chen’s position, he could faintly glimpse a corner of its grandeur.
"Hmm."
Lin Chen returned his gaze, nodded slightly, and then quickly hurried forward.
With each step, sand and gravel flew, not slower than the rushed carriages and horses.
This was within Lin Chen’s capacity, as his strength surpassed Tang Ming and Jiang Ningyan by a good margin. If he exerted himself fully, those two would surely fall behind.
"Such speed!"
"It’s a cultivator!"
People exclaimed in surprise. Watching Lin Chen’s feet hit the ground faster than steeds, their faces showed envy.
These were mostly traders traveling between cities, just ordinary people.
Seeing Lin Chen’s prowess shook their composure.
Besides these ordinary people, a carriage slowly drove forward.
Around the carriage were several ironclad warriors, numbering dozens, each stern-faced, with hefty blades at their waists.
Seeing the yellow soil stirred by Lin Chen and others’ footsteps, the lead warrior tightened his grip on his blade, glancing back sharply.
A deep scar marred his stern face; as he moved, it wriggled like a centipede, horrific and frightening.
"It’s just ordinary travelers; don’t be nervous. Your reaction will only draw attention."
Following the warrior’s action, a cold yet soft voice emerged from the carriage, resonating clearly.
The warrior, upon hearing the voice from the carriage, eased his worried state.
The voice from the carriage seemed to hold a peculiar power.
"Miss is right," he released his grip from the blade and sighed, gently speaking to the figure inside the carriage.
But no more sounds came from within the carriage.
Continuing ahead, the carriage steadily left deep tracks behind...
Though Lin Chen was running, he suddenly felt a chilling sensation, as if a palpable Evil Qi pierced him, causing his hackles to rise and slowing him down.
The feeling came swiftly but faded just as quickly, disappearing before Lin Chen could discern its source.
This made him frown, lost in contemplation.
Amidst such thoughts, Lin Chen approached the city gate.
"Brother Lin, hurry inside,"
Tang Ming, panting lightly, reached Lin Chen from behind, joined by Jiang Ningyan, whose face was similarly flushed.
Their lesser strength made this run arduous, which was expected.
"Let’s go."
Interrupted by this, and with the malice swiftly vanishing, Lin Chen ceased pondering.
He followed Tang Ming and Jiang Ningyan into Qingmu City.
Cobblestone streets extended straight ahead, branching into numerous paths like a tree’s trunk, spreading branches within the city.
Flanking the road were bustling shops, and Lin Chen spotted women atop a tower, playing instruments or waving handkerchiefs at passersby.
This scene was novel to Lin Chen, as his prior world was technologically advanced, making this ancient market a first-time experience.
He found it intriguing, fresh, and couldn’t help but glance upward.
Tang Ming nudged Lin Chen with a shoulder, raising an eyebrow with a meaningful smile, following Lin Chen’s gaze upwards. He chuckled, "Does Brother Lin fancy such places too? Shall we go up?"
Howl!
Right after, Tang Ming shouted, and Jiang Ningyan gazed at him with an unpredictable expression, prompting his awkward cough.
"I’ve never been to anyone of those places, just teasing Brother Lin since he seemed interested,"
Tang Ming explained.
Lin Chen shook his head, his curiosity didn’t extend to exploring them. He wasn’t greatly interested in playing there.
Regarding Tang Ming, Lin Chen doubted he’d go, as despite his cheerful demeanor, his personality was quite conservative.
