Chapter 303: Chapter 223: Asset Inventory
’Otherwise, after today’s inspection, once all sorts of resources start pouring in, my small contribution might not look like much.’
As for now...
Lin Chu didn’t doubt Su Chaoyue’s character. Since he had agreed last night, he must have been weighing his options.
’In this situation, I should first see what conditions the competitors offer.’
...
"Some big shots from above are here for an inspection today. It’s almost certainly related to the low-altitude aircraft lab. How did your talk with Elder Su go last night?"
The moment Lin Chu walked into the classroom, Chen Yuanxing, who was already waiting for him, leaned in. He glanced around before asking in a hushed, low voice.
Chen Yuanxing looked quite nervous at that moment.
As someone who was "building something from nothing," relying on connecting various resources to get this project off the ground, his sense of uncertainty was much stronger than Lin Chu’s. After all, he had no core resources or sufficient strength; it was all about wheeling and dealing.
Lin Chu, of course, hadn’t "reported" his whereabouts last night, and Chen Yuanxing hadn’t pressed him about it either. He’d waited until now to ask, having spent a restless night tossing and turning despite his patience.
And when he arrived at the university this morning and saw the inspection team, his anxiety had grown even worse.
"I helped him solve the problem with the lab site. But given the situation today, we just have to wait patiently," Lin Chu briefly explained, then asked nonchalantly, "Have you found out who’s here for the inspection?"
"I don’t know, it’s hard to say. I just went and asked Kong Qi, but even he didn’t know. His rank is probably too low. I also asked Xiaosheng, and he didn’t know either. Professor Su wouldn’t need to report this kind of thing to him. Still, judging by the procession, it has to be at least provincial level."
Chen Yuanxing said with a frown.
The scale of the event today was truly significant, leaving him deeply unsettled. He still hadn’t recovered.
Lin Chu nodded. "Let’s wait and see. Class is starting."
’When he was thinking about his strategy last night, Lin Chu had deliberately avoided dealing with official channels. The few segments of his business empire were all largely unrelated to such matters—they were things that could be achieved in a fully competitive market through self-reliance.’
’Especially retail.’
’This was a major focus of Lin Chu’s considerations.’
’After all, the retail industry was widely recognized as the largest employer, comparable to manufacturing, and a great promoter of employment.’
’More jobs meant more people on his side. If he could have hundreds of thousands of employees, just giving out some random benefits each month would generate an extremely substantial sum from the cash-back system.’
’Of course, the retail he was getting into wasn’t ordinary retail, but something related to Chinese luxury goods.’
’The ultimate goal, of course, was what he had told Gu Tong while playing at Mission Hills Golf—to become the Louis Vuitton of high-end Chinese cultural luxury.’
With these thoughts in mind, Lin Chu casually sent a message to Ma Lin: "Before the opening ceremony of the professional Gold tournament, the exhibition space at Mission Hills must be secured. I’ve spoken with President Zhu before, and he already agreed."
Ma Lin: "Roger that. I spoke with him a couple of days ago, too. President Zhu said it’s no problem and has already reserved a spot for us."
Lin Chu: "Good. Speed things up."
They were currently in the honeymoon phase of their collaboration with Mission Hills. For a jointly-hosted open tournament, this was a minor matter, and Zhu Yizhen wouldn’t create trouble for himself over it.
He then sent a message to Xin Fu: "Jackie Chan is confirmed. You can decide on the rest; I’m leaving it to you. You must invite a South Korean girl group."
After receiving a confirmation reply from Xin Fu, the professor arrived at the lecture platform.
Lin Chu then turned his full attention to the class.
The MBA program had just started, so no one knew each other yet, nor were they familiar with each professor’s caliber or style. As for what the professor on stage was teaching, Lin Chu naturally wanted to first see if it had any value.
If a class was valuable, like those taught by professors such as Bian Gaige, Lin Chu would certainly not miss it. He would attend every session, as there was always something to be gained.
But for lectures like the one from yesterday’s second professor, which had no real substance and were just generic filler, he’d skip if he could. If he couldn’t skip, he’d just sleep. It was a complete waste of time.
’In the MBA program, you didn’t have to worry about graduating at all.’
’After all, he’d paid for it—half a million!’
’The university wouldn’t make things too difficult, at least not on the surface.’
"Hello, students. My surname is Gong, Gong Xueqin. I’ll be your lecturer for Business Strategy."
On the lecture platform stood a stern-faced professor who looked to be in his fifties. Dressed in a suit and leather shoes, he had a very proper and serious air about him.
After writing his name on the blackboard, he wasted no time on pleasantries and quickly began his lecture.
To Lin Chu’s slight surprise, this professor didn’t even have a PowerPoint. He was lecturing entirely from memory.
’His stage presence is very steady and confident.’
’He must have a lot of solid knowledge.’
Within a few sentences, Gong Xueqin had captured everyone’s full attention.
"Business strategy is the study of a company’s holistic, long-term, and fundamental issues."
"Western economics and domestic political economy are two completely different fields. We won’t delve into their specific differences; we will focus on ourselves. I believe that the kind of person you are determines the kind of company you can build. Your business can only succeed where your core strengths lie."
"The main thread of your career is the main thread of your life. Once this main thread is determined, it becomes the goal you persistently strive for—what you might call your ideal. A general on the march doesn’t chase after rabbits."
"This main thread—or, you could say, this ideal, this vision—is also the biggest difference between an entrepreneur and a mere businessman."
"So, how do you determine this main thread? I’d like all of you to think about this: imagine you have already achieved financial freedom and time freedom. You can do whatever you want. Of course, that could mean wining and dining, or living as a hermit in the mountains. However, I still ask you all to think carefully: under the premise of having both freedoms, what business or career would you most want to pursue? What can still give you that primal impulse? That is the thing your heart desires most."
