Chapter 309: Chapter 227: I’ve Never Seen Such a Shameless Person

It was a little after 5 PM, and the evening sky was ablaze with a brilliant sunset. Zhou Luan was in the passenger seat of the Lamborghini.

Traffic was already building up on North Ring Road, but Lin Chu was still weaving through it at high speed, like a nimble fish.

Still, the ride was smooth.

But Zhou Luan was still a little scared. Several times, she felt like they were about to rear-end the car in front of them.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa..."

"Slow down. Please, just slow down."

"We’re not in a rush. If he gets there early, he can just wait."

After another close call, she couldn’t help but say something.

"What are you so scared for? I’m not even speeding."

Lin Chu said with a casual laugh.

"There’s a psychological phenomenon called the ’suspension bridge effect.’ It says that when a man and woman are on a suspension bridge, the woman’s fear of falling makes her nervous and her heart race. Her brain then misattributes that arousal as attraction to the man. So, go on, tell me. How many girls have you picked up with this trick?"

Zhou Luan said innocently, folding her arms across her chest.

She was wearing a long white dress today, her long hair cascading down her back. With her shimmering lip gloss and a hint of pale pink eyeshadow, she had the look of a little princess—innocent yet alluring.

"I don’t need tricks like this to get girls. It’s too cheap."

Lin Chu shot back with a cocky laugh.

It was true, though.

To be fair, the whole day of introspection had been quite fruitful for Lin Chu. He had systematically organized his thoughts on the problems he was facing at this stage of his life, his various feelings, and what he needed to do next.

As a result, his attitude had become more relaxed and composed.

His career needed to be steady—the steadier, the better.

He needed lots of friends—the more, the better.

His love life should be wild—the wilder, the better.

This was the 24-word mantra Lin Chu had summed up.

"So what isn’t cheap, then?"

Zhou Luan asked, looking at him nonchalantly.

"The phrase ’picking up girls’ is cheap in itself. Too crass. As for me, Lin Chu, I’m always the one being chased. *Sigh*. What can I do about this damn, overwhelming charm of mine."

Zhou Luan was speechless.

She was growing more and more speechless.

A moment later, she couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

"I can believe that. That little secretary of yours must be chasing you."

She still couldn’t get it out of her head; the impression was just too strong. It was mainly Liang Jieyu. That face, that figure, those legs... and that saccharine voice, that sexy, enchanting demeanor. She was a natural-born vixen—absolutely stunning.

The last time she’d brought it up, Lin Chu had gotten angry and chewed her out.

But now that she was bringing it up again, Lin Chu wasn’t angry at all.

’Getting angry means you care.’

’If you don’t care, you don’t get angry.’

’Why get so worked up?’

"You sound a little sour. You like me? Have a secret crush on me? Are you jealous?"

Lin Chu teased nonchalantly. Just as Zhou Luan was about to retort, he continued, "But don’t get any ideas. You’re neither an elite career woman nor the virtuous wife type. You’re not good enough for me yet. You’ll have to try harder."

Zhou Luan: ?

She knew Lin Chu was deliberately trying to take a shot at her. While she was a little annoyed, she wasn’t truly angry. She put on a polite smile and retorted sarcastically, "What, are you going crazy now too? Is it contagious or something? Or did something set you off? Is it because Xiaokangkang has a thing for me, and since you have a secret crush on me, you’re jealous? Then go pick a fight with him. Why are you coming after me?"

Lin Chu couldn’t help but laugh.

"Excellent, woman. You’ve caught my attention. You’re the first person who’s dared to speak to me like that."

Zhou Luan rolled her eyes.

"BLECH... So cringe! So cheesy! Help! Somebody save me..."

Lin Chu: "Oh? How about I give you something that’s good for your skin?"

She actually understood. Turning to look at Lin Chu in disbelief, her face flushed crimson as images flashed through her mind.

"You’re sick!"

Lin Chu slowed the car, rolled down the window, and lit a cigarette. He exhaled a long plume of smoke and said nothing more.

...

They arrived at the designated Japanese restaurant.

Kang Hao was already inside.

He looked like a typical rich second-generation kid: tall and skinny, with a K-pop idol haircut. He wore a black shirt, white shorts, and a pair of flip-flops. Sprawled over the table and clutching his phone with both hands, he was clearly in the middle of a game.

’At this point, Lin Chu was already thinking that talking to this kid about his views on love and marriage would be pretty meaningless.’

’What does this little punk know, anyway!’

’But, since they were already here and had an appointment, they might as well eat. He could just chalk it up to seeing all the different kinds of people in the world.’

"Hello. I’m Lin Chu."

Lin Chu said casually, standing in front of him.

’This punk... didn’t he say he hated hearing "hello"? I’m saying it just to spite him.’

Kang Hao glanced up at Lin Chu. After a moment’s silence, he replied a bit sheepishly, "Hello."

He had no idea that Zhou Luan had shown their entire chat history to Lin Chu.

Lin Chu nearly burst out laughing.

’Seriously? He acted all cool and aloof online, but now he’s this timid?’

’Pathetic!’

Lin Chu casually sat down across from him. Zhou Luan glanced between the two men, suddenly finding the atmosphere a bit odd. She said casually, "Get off your phone and order. Let’s see what’s good to eat."

Kang Hao glanced at her and pursed his lips. "I’ve already ordered. You guys can add whatever else you want. So... what’s this all about? Why’d you ask me to come?"

"Looking to sell you a membership. For the golf club. What do you think, pal?"

Zhou Luan said with a teasing smile.

She rather enjoyed "bullying" people. Aside from the times she’d been shot down by Lin Chu, she was pretty much undefeated.

"How much is it?"

Kang Hao asked, looking at her.

"It’s not expensive. A small price, really. Only 2.8 million."

Kang Hao was speechless.

He shot to his feet, ready to bolt. "Thanks, but I don’t think I can afford this meal. You two enjoy. I’m outta here."
