Chapter 378: Chapter 252: You Really Are a Bad Person

Seeing the two people inside, Gao Haitao, who was following Lin Chu, felt his gaze shift subtly. A wry smile touched his lips, but his expression quickly hardened with resolve.

’When I was just a driver for my boss, there was no risk. All I had to do was drive safely and avoid accidents.’

’A salary of tens of thousands a month was very comfortable.’

’But was I going to be a driver for the rest of my life?’

’My wife wants a bigger house, and my kids want to go to better schools. They might study abroad in the future, and then they’ll need to buy their own houses, get married, and have children. All of that requires money. Instead of just pushing my kids, I need to push myself.’

’And right now, I truly have a great opportunity.’

’I’ve met a benefactor who appreciates me.’

’With my former boss, I was just some "decent kid." But he had his own inner circle, and being twenty years younger, I never would have gotten my turn based on seniority. At thirty-six, making manager was the end of the line for me.’

Thinking about all this, Gao Haitao gritted his teeth, strode forward, and pushed open the door to the tea room.

’How many chances does a person get in life?’

’The world is full of wonderful things. If you want them, you have to trade what you have to get them!’

He walked into the tea room.

Lin Chu smiled and greeted the two men, and Jackie Chan smiled as he made the introductions. On the surface, there was no hint of an interrogation; it seemed just like a chat among friends.

After all, all the evidence indicated that Lin Chu couldn’t possibly be the "mastermind." He had simply been caught up in the affair and had a minor conflict with the Zhuang brothers.

"Oh, right, I was just about to mention something. Last night, someone left a plaster arm at my doorstep. I thought about it and decided not to trouble the officers. I’m not sure if it was the second or third son, or the work of someone else."

"It was probably because I slapped the third son at the party yesterday. He was mocking me, calling me a bastard or something like that."

"Such a pointless mess. It’s truly a disaster I didn’t ask for."

"To be honest, the rich young masters of Xiangjiang are just too arrogant. It’s frightening."

Before they could even ask, Lin Chu took the initiative, speaking with a faint smile as if he were discussing something that had nothing to do with him.

Of course, Lin Chu had brought the plaster arm with him. He had Gao Haitao take it out and place it on the table.

Hearing this, the two men’s brows furrowed slightly.

Jackie Chan also looked surprised.

This sort of thing...

He sighed.

He felt disgraced.

After all, from a certain point of view, Lin Chu had come from Peng City. Whether he was here to buy property or start a company, he was a guest. To run into this kind of trouble was truly awful.

Lin Chu was taking it well.

He hadn’t said anything harsher.

"I’ll look into this," Jackie Chan said in a deep voice. "It happened at my party, so I’ll be sure to give you a satisfactory answer."

There was indeed no need to get the police involved.

The two officers glanced at each other. Since Jackie Chan had already said so, they didn’t press the issue, simply moving past it with a few polite platitudes. When lunch was ready, they all took their seats at Jackie Chan’s invitation.

Since this was official business, there was naturally no alcohol served with lunch.

After they had been eating for a while, they started chatting, as if casually.

Lin Chu recounted everything in great detail. He described how he had applied to join the United Youth Association and been rejected; how he came to Xiangjiang and ran into Zhuang Yingcheng at Jackie Chan’s home; how Kang Hao had then formally introduced them; how they went drinking that night; how Zhuang Yingcheng threatened him in the car; and finally, the dispute that broke out in the underground garage.

One of the two officers listened.

The other took out a recording pen and began recording. There were also cameras in the room.

Lin Chu, of course, noticed all of this.

However, he had a clear conscience about the matter, so he remained remarkably candid and calm.

"Why didn’t you tell me about this at the time?" Jackie Chan asked with a note of concern after hearing the whole story.

"Forget it. Being targeted like that isn’t exactly something to brag about. Besides, it was resolved later. Why would I owe you a favor for something I could handle myself?"

"If I were going to owe you a favor, it wouldn’t be for something so trivial."

Lin Chu replied with a nonchalant smile.

The two officers, of course, heard all of this, and it only served to reinforce their impression of his maturity and composure.

Since neither Lin Chu nor Zhuang Yingcheng had reported the incident to the authorities, it was considered privately settled. No report, no investigation.

Besides, Zhuang Yingcheng was now a cold corpse, and Lin Chu wasn’t the murderer. There was nothing more to say on the matter.

"Mr. Lin, do you have any other thoughts regarding this matter?" one of them asked cautiously.

Hearing this, Lin Chu picked up some food with his chopsticks, chewed it deliberately, took a sip of water, and then smiled. "It makes you feel things, doesn’t it? After all, someone can be here one moment and gone the next. Yesterday, someone suggested I should take this opportunity to make a play on the stock market. You know, make a little money as compensation for the emotional distress of being dragged into this for no reason."

"I refused at the time, but now I’m reconsidering."

"I think every single person in the Zhuang Family is a suspect. Why not just arrest all of them?"

The two officers were speechless.

’What kind of thing is that to say!’

Gao Haitao suppressed a laugh. ’Well, you asked. Brother Chu was just answering truthfully.’

Jackie Chan glanced at Lin Chu, a helpless look in his eyes.

"We can’t interfere with your personal investment decisions. However, we’d like to remind you, Mr. Lin, to be mindful of your safety these days. And if anything should happen, please think twice before you act."

"Thank you for your cooperation. And of course, we welcome your investments and business in Xiangjiang, Mr. Lin."

The two officers said in perfect concert, successfully concluding their inquiry.

After the meal, the two of them took their leave. They didn’t bring up Gao Haitao again.
