Chapter 403 - 260: Perfect Life After Financial Freedom
Chapter 403: Chapter 260: Perfect Life After Financial Freedom
For Chinese people, or rather, for all of humanity, there are really only four paths to choose from in life.
First, politics.
Second, business.
Third, academia.
Fourth, the life of a hermit.
The first one went without saying. ’I don’t have the skills, the ambition, or even the qualifications for that.’ He filtered that one out immediately.
The second path, business, was what he was already doing. But at this point, there wasn’t much room for improvement. It was just a matter of gradual, systematic development. The truly top-tier, core assets all had intricate networks of connections behind them. For him right now, even if he could acquire them, they would become a burden. He’d have to spend a huge amount of time and energy maintaining those relationships.
The third path... ’I’m not smart enough, and I don’t have the temperament for it. I graduated from a second-rate university. What kind of academic or scientific research could I possibly do?’
The fourth path, being a hermit. He was already kind of heading in that direction—partially withdrawn, but not completely. Then again, it was impossible to completely withdraw in this day and age.
Looking at the four keywords he had written on the paper and objectively analyzing his own situation, Lin Chu couldn’t help but shake his head and chuckle.
’Unbelievable.’
’I fucking ran too fast.’
’I didn’t hurt myself in the process, though.’
But...
’It’s so lonely at the top!’
"Honey, what are you doing?"
From the bed, Jiang Ya asked softly, her voice sweet and a little husky.
She was rather puzzled.
’Why is Lin Chu writing something at this hour instead of sleeping?’
"Go back to sleep. Don’t bother me."
"I’m thinking about some things."
Lin Chu didn’t even look up. He waved his hand dismissively and lit a cigarette, continuing to ponder amidst the curling smoke.
For someone who had always longed to live a spectacular life, this matter was of the utmost importance to Lin Chu.
Hearing his words and watching the man engrossed in thought under the lamp, Jiang Ya suddenly found his profile incredibly handsome. He had an air of charisma, tinged with a faint, hidden melancholy.
She didn’t disturb him again. She switched her phone to silent, curled up under the covers, and started playing on it.
He finished his cigarette. Lin Chu picked up his pen and continued to write.
As if squeezing toothpaste, Lin Chu listed things out on the paper—item after item, idea after idea, wish after wish.
These were all things that could still make him feel excited, make his heart race, and give him a sense of accomplishment.
—Develop LC Retail into the Louis Vuitton of Chinese high luxury! (Do my best)
—Become a world-famous figure! I don’t seek to pass down family wealth for generations; I just want a life that’s magnificent and full of excitement.
—Travel the entire world! Leave my footprints in most corners of the globe.
—Find the perfect woman for me, a soulmate. Have a perfect romance, marry her, and have children. (If I can’t find her, then I’ll settle for the next best thing: get married and have kids at thirty-five.)
—Leave my own unique, intangible mark on this world: ideas, books, music, films... anything like that will do.
—See how far human technology has advanced by the time I die. And how far the motherland has come.
—Go to space once. (On the condition that the technology is fully mature and 100% safe.)
—Have a territory that belongs only to me, a free land beyond anyone’s jurisdiction.
He wrote down whatever came to mind. After he finished, Lin Chu looked over the list again, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes.
’The soaring ambitions of youth!’
’Before, I had no choice, no means.’
’But now? Nothing is an obstacle anymore.’
’Let’s do this!’
He counted them—eight items in total. Lin Chu took a photo of his notes, saving it as a memo so he could revise it at any time.
’Collect all eight of these life wishes, and I, Lin Chu, will have lived the perfect life!’
’Tsk. Awesome!’
With that thought, Lin Chu took a shower, lay down on the bed, and soon drifted off to sleep.
