Chapter 482: Chapter 292: A Prince’s Life
"President Lin, it’s all set. There’s a Habsburg auction the day after tomorrow, a special event for porcelain. My sponsor has an invitation, and I’ve already asked him to get one for me."
After a flurry of words on the phone, Ma Teng ended the call, turned back, and smiled at Lin Chu.
In a place like Dubai, there are a lot of auctions.
Rich people from all over the world flock here, so the concentration of wealth is extremely high. The auction business naturally follows the money.
"Habsburg?"
Lin Chu looked at Yang Huixian.
She pursed her lips, privately amused.
’It seems Lin Chu has never heard of this auction house.’
’Then again, it’s understandable. This company mainly handles international auctions and doesn’t do a lot of business back home.’
’I only know about it because I used to work in the Jadeite and Gold industry.’
"They’re pretty decent. They have a long history, but they aren’t that well-known in China since they mostly focus on international auctions."
Lin Chu nodded.
Ma Teng, who was driving, also smiled. "They really are pretty good. Oh, right, there’s one more thing. My sponsor heard my boss was in town and would like to meet you. He’s inviting you to his party."
"The guy’s a local, and you could call him a Prince—though from a very distant branch of the family. He stamps passports at airport immigration. Of course, he’s still super rich."
"Hahaha, a billionaire’s job is so simple and unpretentious."
"He likes making friends. He gets bored, you know... and he’s super friendly."
Hearing this, Lin Chu nodded with a smile and agreed. "Alright, I’ll meet him. What’s a sponsor? Does that mean you need a local to sponsor you to open a company here?"
This was something Lin Chu had never looked into before; he was just guessing based on the name.
"Yes."
"I get along with him great. The guy’s pretty simple, thirty-one, and kind of a lovable doofus. Not a scheming bone in his body, but he’s just filthy rich."
"He loves shooting guns and keeping pets. His house is practically a zoo—tigers, lions, leopards, and even a golden python..."
Huh.
Lin Chu gazed out the window at the skyscrapers and the streets teeming with luxury cars. Although the air was dry, he couldn’t help but think that this kind of life must be incredibly pleasant.
’Not a care in the world.’
’Just spending money.’
"Alright, go ahead and set a time with him. I’m free whenever. We should go see how a Prince lives."
"Hey, I hear that over here, men can have four wives? Do you know much about that?"
After agreeing, Lin Chu asked nonchalantly, but there was a teasing glint in his eyes as he looked at Yang Huixian.
’It seemed a lot of things just naturally dissolved once you left the country.’
’When in Rome, after all.’
’Even though I’m not a local, it wasn’t a serious question. It was more about the novelty of it all.’
Hearing this, Yang Huixian shot Lin Chu a playful glare. ’Heh, men and their crude humor.’
’That’s just because you’re in your twenties.’
’Let’s see if you still dare ask that kind of question when you’re forty.’
’Besides...’
"How is it any different for a rich man anywhere else? Is it really a matter of quotas and laws?"
"Theoretically, as long as you don’t get married, it’s like you have the whole forest to yourself."
She chimed in with a teasing smile.
From that perspective, getting married was actually the inferior choice.
Ma Teng, in the front seat, wasn’t quite sure of Yang Huixian’s relationship with Lin Chu, nor did he know Lin Chu’s personality well. Unsure of where the conversational boundaries lay, he thought for a moment before smiling and chiming in.
"Well, with this system, it really depends on the person. Some are monogamous, but others do enjoy the good fortune of having multiple wives."
"I don’t know that much about it, though, haha. I’m still a bachelor myself."
"As for my sponsor, though, I do know his situation. He has two permanent wives, plus two ’floating’ slots."
"One permanent wife is for a family alliance, a union of power and status. The other is a brainy beauty, to ensure the next generation is smart. The last two slots are left open for ’flexible adjustments’—handy for things like a short-term girlfriend."
Ma Teng wasn’t generalizing; he spoke very objectively, only describing the person he knew.
Hearing this, Lu Ming was momentarily dumbfounded.
"Holy shit!"
"What kind of heavenly life is that?"
"’Flexible adjustments’? You’ve got to be kidding me."
’Goddamn, you could die of happiness living like that.’
In the back seat, Lin Chu couldn’t help but laugh out loud, glancing at Yang Huixian and raising an eyebrow.
Yang Huixian couldn’t be bothered to stoop to his level.
’A man’s nature is something he’s born with.’
’As for this cultural difference, she wouldn’t pass judgment. There was nothing to judge, really.’
’Winning a verbal spat about it was pointless.’
’We’re out here to have fun. The most important thing is not to be a buzzkill.’
’Let them fantasize all they want. It didn’t change reality one bit.’
"Alright, enough about this. Let’s change the subject, haha."
When Lin Chu saw that Yang Huixian had gone quiet, just maintaining a smile, he chuckled as he spoke.
’If she had argued back forcefully or shown any contempt, I probably would have kept teasing her just to get a rise out of her.’
’But she wasn’t taking the bait, so what more was there to say?’
’Better to quit while I’m ahead.’
...
The LC Security Group’s branch office here occupied a large area. Though it was far from the bustling commercial district, its facilities were all state-of-the-art.
Out back, there was a huge training ground, roughly the size of five soccer fields. It was equipped with a shooting range and served as the team’s regular training area.
Ma Teng said this place used to be his sponsor’s private club, the kind not open to the public.
When the company opened its branch here, they just rented the whole place.
’These Princes really live like local emperors.’
