Chapter 630: Chapter 362: In Life, Green Mountains Are Everywhere

The two chatted for a while before Lu Ming came down. He closed the door to the tea room and gave Lin Chu a suggestive look. "Bro, you’re the fucking man. Damn, I’m so jealous... My girlfriend just secretly messaged me asking what the deal was with those three... I had no fucking clue how to answer her."

Lin Chu smiled faintly. "It is what it is. Just tell her the truth. Since it’s already done, why worry about what people will say?"

Lu Ming pressed his lips together, took a sip of tea, and sighed deeply. "My girlfriend... she’s actually great. Smart, sensible, impeccable social skills, knows how to treat people, and she can cook. I told her to quit the entertainment biz and just stay home, do my laundry, and cook for me. She didn’t object at all, just agreed right away... To be honest, I’m actually tempted."

This wasn’t some kind of humble brag. It was a genuine struggle to choose between freedom and love.

"They’re all like that when you’re just dating. Wait until she’s actually your wife, give it three or five years, and then you’ll see."

Wang Zhefei teased.

Hearing this, Lin Chu couldn’t help but smile, though he offered no comment. When viewed over a longer time frame, everything was hard to predict. No one could see through to the future.

You could even predict major national events and future business trends.

But the human heart, like the sun, could never be stared at directly.

"When it comes to marriage, everyone has their own aspirations and their own path, so I can’t really say much... But as for our brotherhood, this feeling we have now? Let’s take it to the grave."

Hearing this, Lu Ming and Wang Zhefei both fell silent for a moment, then nodded lightly.

They were both more than a little moved.

"Tsk. We’re fucking blood brothers from different mothers!"

...

Throughout the entire New Year holiday, Lin Chu maintained his usual daily routine with little change, though his social obligations inevitably increased.

He made courtesy visits to some of his local contacts in Peng City.

The Unity Association organized a gathering.

New Year’s gifts were delivered one by one to the golf club’s important clients.

The various old professors from Bian Gaige’s faction were all taken care of.

The children at the orphanage also received thoughtful gifts.

He also returned to his hometown, giving red envelopes and New Year’s goods to his relatives and the village elders.

Everyone at LC, from those already on vacation to those scheduled to work through the holidays, received greetings from their boss.

His schedule wasn’t packed. He moved at an unhurried pace, but he made sure everything that needed to be done was done right.

Lin Chu even felt that as long as no major problems arose, he would maintain this same rhythm and lifestyle for the next ten, twenty, or even thirty years.

In a way, it was a life where he could already see the end.

And for a man who had reached this stage, perhaps only two things could still keep him passionate and excited.

The first was the sense of accomplishment from his career—from getting things done.

The second was the next generation.

Watching a brand new little person, one who shared his blood, curiously yet stumblingly explore the world and grow, bit by bit, regardless of whether it was a boy or a girl.

That was the fundamental nature of family.

It was like playing a video game, leveling up an alt character, and gaining a whole different life experience.

...

「The eighth day of the Lunar New Year.」

At the LC headquarters building, on the first day back at work, it was customary for employees to go to the boss’s office to receive a red envelope. Lin Chu stood at his office door, a long line already snaking from the entrance nearly all the way downstairs. Despite the crowd, everyone remained in a neat and orderly line.

This was the first time Lin Chu had experienced this kind of ceremony. After the first hour, he decided he would absolutely not be doing this again next year. The internet was a truly great invention; from now on, he’d just send digital red envelopes.

The company’s headcount was set to explode this year. If he tried to pull this same pointless charade next year, it would absolutely kill him.

Still, he had to admit...

This was, by far, the most beautiful women he had ever seen in a single day.

There were women from corporate headquarters, the golf club, the retail division, and especially the media division... a vibrant and diverse collection. Proportionally, they weren’t that numerous, making up only about twenty percent of the company’s total staff. In terms of absolute numbers, however, that still meant at least two thousand people.

Lin Chu felt like his "beauty-detection radar" was about to crash after a whole morning of ceremonial procedures.

Lin Chu also saw that female finance manager who had stunned him before, a woman named Shen Huanxi.

She looked just as stunning today—elegant, aloof, a beauty who fit his aesthetic one hundred percent. The entire interaction, however, lasted less than ten seconds.

"Happy New Year, President Lin. I wish you the best of luck."

"You too. Wishing you a prosperous new year."

After their brief and mechanical exchange, she walked away. She glanced back with a bright smile, only to see that Lin Chu was already greeting the next employee.

’The boss really is handsome, and so young,’ she thought to herself, then walked away with elegant steps.

As for Lin Chu, he truly didn’t give it a second thought.

It wasn’t about the old saying of not eating the grass near your own burrow, nor was it that he had lost interest in beautiful women. It was just that mere beauty alone was no longer enough to stir his interest.

For him, at this point in his life, beauty was far from a scarce resource.

If he wanted it, all he had to do was crook his finger, and there would be plenty.

Now, the only thing that could truly move him was a unique, unforgettable experience in a specific context.

Otherwise, it was all just fleeting clouds, akin to NPCs in a video game.
