Chapter 195: Chapter 194: Dr. Yu, I Need Your Help

Around 6:30 in the evening, Zhao Shan finished his work for the day and returned to the director’s office. He was somewhat surprised to see that fellow, Qi Yue, sitting on the sofa in the lounge area, leisurely sipping tea.

He raised an eyebrow and huffed, "Are you here to hold me accountable? Or to apologize on behalf of your precious disciple?"

Qi Yue shot him a sideways glance. "What do you think?"

Zhao Shan walked over, sat down across from Qi Yue, picked up the other still-warm cup of tea from the coffee table, and drained it in one gulp.

"Looks like you’re here to hold me accountable."

Qi Yue remained silent, refilling Zhao Shan’s cup.

Zhao Shan let out a soft breath, a frustrated look on his face. "Alright, the kid isn’t my subordinate, and his status is on a whole different level now."

"I really shouldn’t have summoned him at my beck and call like that."

Qi Yue seemed a little surprised and chuckled. "Well, this is rare. Our great Director Zhao is actually reflecting and admitting his mistake?"

Zhao Shan snorted coldly. "Do I have a choice?"

"That kid is incredible these days. He’s a big shot who’d even disrespect Academician Tan to his face and force him to kick his own student out of a project!"

"I’m just a lowly emergency department director. Who the hell am I in comparison?"

Qi Yue chuckled, then his smile faded. He said with a serious expression, "His sister had a bad attitude today, but there was a reason for it."

"This morning, Zhiming and his sister were involved in a car accident. It was a matter of life and death, just by a hair’s breadth."

Zhao Shan was startled and asked urgently, "What happened? How come there’s no news about something this big?"

Qi Yue explained, "It wasn’t their accident. They came across an accident on the road."

"It happened during the rescue. It was a close call."

As he spoke, Qi Yue tapped his phone screen a few times and handed it to Zhao Shan.

"See for yourself."

The phone screen was playing a traffic surveillance video, shot from a distance. It showed a person being blown away by a vehicle’s fiery explosion while trying to run.

From what Zhao Shan knew of Yu Zhiming, he could tell from the figure and movements that the person thrown by the blast was him.

"Is he okay?"

Qi Yue replied softly, "He was lucky. He just got some shrapnel in his back. Nothing serious."

"But that fear after surviving a near-death experience... both Zhiming and his sister are having a hard time shaking it."

Zhao Shan nodded slightly. "That kind of brush with death would certainly leave anyone shaken."

He watched the video two more times, then asked, puzzled, "What was that thing he threw right as he was blown away?"

"A baby. A baby delivered by C-section."

Qi Yue explained, then added, "The baby was examined and is fine. It survived."

"Holy shit!"

Zhao Shan cursed, then picked up his teacup and gulped it all down.

"Even if there was a reason, the attitude was still terrible. I was even thinking of teaching him my specialty."

"Looks like that’s impossible now."

Qi Yue stood up, saying disdainfully, "Who’d want it?"

"Your specialty can only save one person at a time. What Zhiming is doing now can save tens of thousands, even millions."

"I’m leaving!"

Seeing Qi Yue actually turn to leave, Zhao Shan quickly stood up and hurried after him.

"Hey, why are you going off-script? Aren’t you supposed to treat me to a big meal now?"

Qi Yue snorted coldly. "People like you can’t be spoiled. Why should I be the one to treat you every time?"

"I’ll treat this time, I’ll treat, alright?..."

「Just then, Yu Zhiming had just returned to his residence at Zijin Garden.」

That afternoon, although Yu Zhiming had fallen asleep at Ning’an Hospital, he woke up after about half an hour.

Feeling his energy restored, he had given physical examinations to another thirty people at Ning’an Hospital...

"Dad, where’s Mom..."

After getting home, Yu Zhiming made a video call to his mom, only to find his dad on the other end.

"Your mom’s at your first sister’s place. Call her."

Yu Zhiming said "Oh," and was about to chat with his dad for a bit, but he found that his dad had already hung up.

Gu Qingning let out a laugh. "My older brother can’t talk to my dad for more than a few words either, unless it’s about work."

"Is it that fathers and sons rarely communicate?"

Yu Zhiming thought for a moment and said, "We communicate when it’s about something important. We talk to Mom about everyday things."

As he spoke, he found his first sister’s number and was about to dial, but his phone rang first.

It was a call from his second brother-in-law, Qi Bin.

Recalling his brother-in-law’s conversational habits, Yu Zhiming answered the call and said directly, "Brother-in-law, if you have something to say, just say it. We can do the small talk after we’re done with the important stuff."

Qi Bin gave an awkward laugh over the phone. "Zhiming, it’s not a big deal, just a small thing."

"A friend has a daughter. She’s twenty-two this year and very overweight. She’s about five-foot-five and weighs nearly two hundred pounds."

"She’s been heavy since she was a child and has never been thin."

"Now that she’s at the age where she’s looking for a boyfriend, she’s tried all sorts of weight loss methods out of a desire to look good, but none of them have worked."

"I wanted to ask, what should she do in this situation? Is it a problem with her body’s functions?"

Yu Zhiming quickly replied, "Brother-in-law, if she’s been overweight since childhood and her diligent weight loss efforts have failed, it’s very likely she has a lipid metabolism disorder."

"Lipid metabolism disorder?" Qi Bin repeated over the phone.

Yu Zhiming explained, "Lipid metabolism disorders include two types: one is fat loss, and the other is fat accumulation."

"Fat loss is when the body uses fat excessively, causing localized fat to disappear. These are the people many envy who can eat anything and not gain weight."

"As for fat accumulation, it’s the opposite."

"The body has trouble utilizing fat, so it can’t be broken down and metabolized normally. This causes fat to accumulate in various parts of the body, especially the stomach, chest, and the back of the neck."

Without waiting for his brother-in-law to ask, Yu Zhiming continued, "If the obesity is caused by a lipid metabolism disorder, some medications can help control it. But the most important things are still dietary regulation and control, as well as exercise."

He emphasized again, "In short, when it comes to weight loss, it’s mainly about diet and exercise. There are no shortcuts."

Having said all this, Yu Zhiming took the glass of warm water his fourth sister handed him and took a large gulp.

Qi Bin let out a long "Ohhh" over the phone, then continued, "Zhiming, I’ll pass on what you said to my friend."

A moment later, he added with a chuckle, "So, Zhiming, your second sister has been a teacher for over ten years now, and she finally has a chance for a promotion to the academic affairs office."

"That’s great news."

Yu Zhiming agreed, then encouraged, "Tell Second Sister to go for it. If she needs to give gifts, she should."

Qi Bin chuckled again. "Actually, your second sister wasn’t originally planning on it. Being a teacher is nice, not too much work."

"But yesterday, someone tipped her off about something."

"They said there’s a young doctor working at the City People’s Hospital who wants to move to Binhai for better career opportunities."

"This young doctor has some decent connections. They said there’s a good chance he could help your second sister get ahead."

Hearing this, Yu Zhiming understood.

This was a blatant quid pro quo.

He helps that guy get a job opportunity in Binhai, and in return, the other party helps his second sister get promoted to the school’s academic affairs office.

Yu Zhiming didn’t like this kind of arrangement.

Qi Bin’s voice continued from the phone, "The person has a master’s degree in clinical medicine from Qilu University Medical College and is an attending physician in general surgery."

"He hopes to get a position at a comprehensive Grade A Tertiary hospital in Binhai, one with an official staff position."

"Zhiming, the person said that for you, at your current level, this isn’t a difficult task. It could be settled over a meal and some drinks."

Yu Zhiming let out a soft scoff. "Second Brother-in-law, the Grade A Tertiary hospitals here in Binhai require a doctorate as the minimum for doctor recruitment, especially for a tenured position."

"So, I can’t make this happen."

"It’s just as Second Sister often says: the fruit you jump up and pick yourself is the sweetest..."

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Gu Qingning, who had been sitting quietly beside Yu Zhiming, hopped up to get the door.

When she saw the person outside, she couldn’t help but widen her eyes.

"You’re... you’re..."

A name was right on the tip of Gu Qingning’s tongue, but it was as if the memory had been stolen from her; she just couldn’t say it.

Anxiously, she turned her head and shouted, "Zhiming, Sister Xiang Wan, come quick and see! We have a rare visitor."

Yu Zhiming took the opportunity to end the call with his second brother-in-law and walked over to Gu Qingning’s side.

Outside the door stood a tall woman in plain clothes, wearing a sun hat.

However, Yu Zhiming recognized her face.

The famous singer, Rao Yi!

Rao Yi gave a slight bow to Yu Zhiming. "Dr. Yu, hello! Please forgive my unannounced visit."

"Dr. Yu, I need your help..."
