Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 1712: A Good Person Leads a Peaceful Life

Xu Ke was very satisfied with how things had turned out, especially when he saw Guoguo’s bright smile, which made him even happier inside.

Sometimes he kept wondering what all this busyness was really for.

After seeing Guoguo’s smile, he felt like he understood something.

Xu Ke realized that all his desperate hard work didn’t seem to be just for himself, and it didn’t seem to be entirely for the family either.

He wanted to protect Xiao Keyi’s smile, he wanted to protect his loved ones.

Xu Ke knew that only by becoming stronger would he have the ability to face all the challenges that lay ahead.

Right now, Xu Hongxing was scared out of his wits; he never imagined something this big would blow up today.

Just earlier he’d been in his office worrying about business lately, when he suddenly got a call from Xu Ke.

And on top of that, he hadn’t expected their logistics supervisor to cause such a huge mess.

At the moment, Xu Hongying’s head was about to explode. From what he heard in Xu Ke’s call just now, it seemed Xu Ke was interested in cooperating with their company.

Although the matter had now been perfectly resolved, something so serious had already happened. Xu Hongxing couldn’t help doubting whether Xu Ke would still be willing to work with their company.

In fact, long ago, Xu Hongxing had wanted to cooperate with Xu Group, but he never got the chance, and besides, the two companies simply weren’t in the same field.

He knew very well that as long as he could latch onto the big leg that was Xu Group, his company’s future prospects would be excellent.

And this year’s situation was especially unusual: recently, all over the country, temperatures had suddenly dropped sharply.

This led to many migrant workers who originally worked out of town suddenly being unable to bear the cold, so they all went back to their hometowns.

The domestic services sector had already been saturated, and now with the weather causing such upheaval, their market share shrank even further.

Now that everyone had gone home, naturally the chances of hiring domestic help decreased.

Over this period, Xu Hongxing had been directly connecting with certain large enterprises and only managed to scrape by thanks to those relationships.

He was in urgent need of business now, in urgent need of customers, and he desperately needed a large sum of money for cash flow.

Now, this series of serious problems lay right in front of Xu Hongxing, giving him a splitting headache.

“President Xu, I wonder if you’re satisfied with how this was handled?”

“I’m quite satisfied. In the future, I’ll have to trouble you to look after Guoguo more. And now the two of us can go to your office and talk cooperation.”

Xu Ke’s words left Xu Hongxing extremely excited. Don’t be fooled by the fact that both of them were presidents of listed groups—status-wise, they absolutely weren’t on the same level.

Even though Xu Hongxing was much older than Xu Ke, he didn’t dare put on any airs in front of Xu Ke at all.

“President Xu, this way please.” With that, Xu Hongxing moved to lead Xu Ke to his office.

Right then Guoguo looked at Xu Ke with reluctance all over his face. He knew that once they parted like this, they might never see each other again in this lifetime.

Although their encounter had been purely by chance, Guoguo was genuinely grateful to Xu Ke from the bottom of his heart.

If it weren’t for Xu Ke, he wouldn’t be who he was now; he might very well not even be able to keep his job.

“President Xu, thank you for everything you’ve brought me. I’ll definitely work even harder from now on and will never betray your trust in me. I’m going to become someone like you in the future.”

Guoguo’s words moved Xu Ke deeply. He really hadn’t misjudged him—Guoguo truly was an impeccable young person.

In Guoguo, Xu Ke saw qualities that many people nowadays no longer possessed.

That was why he’d chosen to help Guoguo, and that was why he’d taken a shine to Guoguo at a glance.

If the conditions were right, Xu Ke would have loved to bring Guoguo into his own company.

But he knew Guoguo had already been working in domestic services for so many years; if he suddenly switched jobs, he would definitely find it hard to adjust.

Besides, Guoguo was doing pretty well now. Under Xu Hongxing, presumably Xu Hongxing wouldn’t treat him badly.

“Guoguo, just focus on your work from now on. If you run into any problem you can’t solve, go straight to President Xu. I believe President Xu will be more than willing to help you sort it out.”

Xu Ke wasn’t just talking to Guoguo; he was also very much speaking to Xu Hongxing.

His meaning was already quite clear—he hoped that Guoguo wouldn’t be bullied by anyone in the company.

Xu Ke wasn’t asking that Xu Hongxing favor Guoguo, but at the very least he had to treat him fairly and never let him suffer any grievance in the company.

Xu Hongxing was an old fox; how could he not understand what Xu Ke meant?

“President Xu, rest assured. Guoguo will absolutely not suffer the slightest grievance in my company. If anything happens to him, you can come straight to me for an explanation.”

Once he got that assurance, Xu Ke said goodbye to Guoguo.

Then he followed Xu Hongxing into Xu Hongxing’s office.

When he stepped into Xu Hongxing’s office, Xu Ke even wondered if he’d gone to the wrong place.

Because the office décor really didn’t look like that of a company president; it looked more like a department manager’s office.

The furnishings in the office were ridiculously simple—so simple it was almost over the top.

At the very least, there ought to be some basic decorations on the white walls, but in Xu Hongxing’s office there wasn’t even a single painting.

There wasn’t even a halfway decent poster or ornament.

Someone who didn’t know better would think they’d walked into a slum; this didn’t look like a president’s office at all.

Noticing Xu Ke’s surprised gaze, Xu Hongxing scratched his head a little embarrassed.

“President Xu, please don’t mind it. I’m just not into all that fancy stuff. When it comes to the office, I keep it as simple as I can. And with all that money you’d spend decorating an office, there are so many better things I could do with it.”

In fact, Xu Hongxing was very generous to his employees, but extremely stingy with himself.

Logically speaking, his own workspace should have been done up decently, but looking at it now, you couldn’t tell at all that he was the president of a company.

Xu Hongxing had donated all the money that was supposed to go into office décor to left-behind children.

He’d rather make things harder on himself if it meant being able to help others.

After all, Xu Hongxing himself had come out of the mountains; he knew kids needed these things even more than he did.

All these years, no matter how badly Red Star Group’s performance dipped, every year Xu Hongxing would still set aside a considerable sum for charity.

His bookshelf was lined with the awards he’d received in recent years for his charitable work.

Some were given to him personally, and some were issued by the government.

Looking at the various certificates on the shelf, Xu Ke silently made up his mind.

This matched what they’d found out beforehand; it seemed that when it came to this, Xu Hongxing hadn’t been fooling the outside world.
