Chapter 13: 13 - Iris vs Kenji

"I like using fire, so what? If you’re so good, try beating me even once. Oh right, you don’t stand a chance of winning anyway. Hahaha..."

Iris didn’t give Kenji any face and laughed right at his opinion. This was the privilege of the stronger one.

"Tsk, if your spiritual power was really equal to mine, do you think you could beat me?"

Kenji clicked his tongue but couldn’t deny what she said. This reason was something he had come up with himself just to make himself feel less annoyed.

Kenji’s mentality wasn’t bad enough that he couldn’t accept defeat, but just counting roughly, he had lost hundreds of times over the past ten years.

If Iris were someone with a warrior’s spirit, it would be better, but reality was harsh. With her arrogant personality, how could she possibly say anything nice?

Being provoked by her again and again, and sometimes even hearing a few insulting remarks from her, it would be strange if Kenji continued putting up with her.

"I’m stronger than you."

"You’re just lucky enough to have high talent. What’s there to be so proud of?"

"I’m stronger."

"You..."

"I’m stronger."

...

The truth really was the sharpest blade, cutting straight into people’s hearts. No matter what Kenji was about to say, Iris shamelessly kept repeating just one sentence.

Just this one sentence alone was enough to make Kenji so angry that he was left speechless, no longer even bothering to find an excuse for why he had lost to her.

Kenji’s fighting style was completely different from Iris’s. If Iris was a blazing flame that had surpassed the realm of mortals, then Kenji was simply a swordsman.

To Kenji, swordsmanship didn’t need any flashy elemental powers. It only needed precision, strength, flexibility, and speed to become perfect.

Although Kenji’s pure passion for swordsmanship was higher than Iris’s, unfortunately, Iris’s corruption resistance had reached 100%, and she was also the only person to reach that level.

With extreme talent, she was always slightly ahead of him, or a whole level ahead if their ranks were different, as they were now.

The weapons of the two continued to clash, but they never actually touched each other even for the briefest moment.

The two enormous streams of spiritual power collided, releasing pressure so massive that even King felt his chest tighten despite having reached rank III, 6-star.

King’s level could almost be considered high among the current cultivators, so he wasn’t weak or anything.

His heartbeat became irregular, sweat kept running down his forehead, and his back was soaked before he even realized it.

King was just an insignificant side character in their competition, yet he still had to struggle hard just to stay standing.

This feeling of weakness and helplessness, like a tiny ant that could be casually crushed to death by someone at any moment, made King extremely uncomfortable.

He had always arrogantly believed that as a reader, he was nobler than every character in this novel, so it was even harder for him to accept that no one was deliberately attacking him, yet he still couldn’t withstand it.

"System, what technique are they using? Even though the visual effects created by the two of them are very different, I feel like they’re using the same technique."

[Master, the technique they are using is called Armament Force Projection.]

[This technique uses a weapon as a medium to release spiritual power into the surroundings. It is a wide-area attack that makes enemies feel as if they are being bombarded by cannons.]

[As you can see, although Iris and Kenji look like they’re slashing at each other, there isn’t the slightest feeling of sharpness. The space between them is like two giant spiritual power cannons colliding and releasing surging spiritual power all around.]

Hearing the system’s explanation, King nodded repeatedly. In his mind, he had already imagined himself swinging a tree branch at an enemy.

The enemy wouldn’t be cut apart, but would instead be blown to pieces until not even a scrap remained, while the tree branch would also turn to dust and he would stand there casually showing off.

"Armament Force Projection? That’s really an insanely badass technique. Can you give me that technique? If not, you can teach me too."

[I...]

Normally, the system was very quick-witted, but this time it seemed extremely hesitant, making King frown.

"Spit it out. Don’t tell me you only know the name of this technique."

[Master, I don’t think you need to care about these trivial things. You have nine divine skills that will awaken one by one at each rank. There’s no reason for you to learn these low-level skills.]

Even with these flattering words, the system couldn’t hide from King the fact that it really didn’t know. His expression suddenly became extremely gloomy, as if he really had no way to learn it.

There were two people in front of King who knew this technique very well, or perhaps three because he believed Principal Adrian knew it too, but he really didn’t want them to teach him.

Just now, he had been so stubbornly claiming that Iris wasn’t qualified to be his master, so if he went and asked them to teach him the technique now, wouldn’t that be slapping himself in the face?

"Hmph, do I really need to use a divine skill just to beat a creep? Wouldn’t that lower the dignity of a divine skill? You consider Armament Force Projection a low-level technique, yet you don’t know anything to teach me. What a trash system."

A system that had insanely buffed King, making it seem like he had ascended to the heavens in a single step, had now become trash just because of his words.

It wasn’t that the system was weak, but that the system had just given King a terrible experience. If the system could be rated above five stars, King’s rating for the system had just dropped from five stars to three stars.

The system could only remain silent at this moment. It really was extremely powerful, but it wasn’t omniscient and omnipotent. This was beyond its capabilities, so it could only accept it.

A tall figure had appeared behind King at some point. Principal Adrian suddenly spoke up.

"If you want to learn Armament Force Projection, you can ask Iris."
