Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 2157 - 732: Debts of Sin in Heaven
"Heaven knows." This time, Lansendel took the initiative to reply to Celene, and it seemed he was quite surprised, "Well, it’s not something good.
But an evil weapon to deal with the Lord of Hell... ah... oh..."
He belatedly realized that Rose indeed had value in existence, at least more than the two of them as mere observers.
Of course, their existence wasn’t entirely meaningless; at least those old folks wouldn’t dare to blatantly use obvious tricks in front of them.
"Talking without finishing is really annoying!" Celene complained unhappily.
"Hmm..." Lansendel hesitated for a moment but still said his judgment.
"Oh... so that’s how it is." Celene widened her eyes, showing no embarrassment over her previous words, and said excitedly, "Hey, didn’t we offend those few old folks now?
But our elder didn’t say a word!
Hehe~ Does that mean these guys are out of the restriction range now?"
Shaer gazed steadily at her: "Why are you bothering the God of Order?"
"I hate it when someone tells me what I can’t do." Celene said decisively.
Shaer gently straightened up: "Ha~"
Celene’s eyes were fixed intently on the giant screen, whether out of fear or unwillingness, she didn’t spare even a glance for Shaer: "Of course, I know the elder’s advice is correct, so I was willing to follow it back then.
But if these old guys give me the chance themselves, then I definitely want to try and see if I can give them a slap or two."
She looked eager for action.
For some reason, Hill turned to look at the clouds outside the Magic Tower... and the moon hanging on the horizon.
Did Celene accidentally consume moon water from there?
Shaer turned around and saw Hill’s pitiful yet cute expression, the bad mood from Celene’s annoying behavior dissipated a bit: "Hill, don’t be surprised, she’s just talking to me.
I upset her earlier, how could Celene not retaliate?
Not fighting doesn’t mean she’ll keep me in a good mood."
Hill couldn’t help but raise a hand to pinch his tense forehead... must remember that Celene is merely chaotic and capricious, not genuinely brainless.
Look how well she seizes the opportunity to unsettle Shaer!
After all, Shaer has always behaved quite reasonably here... so she usually wouldn’t cause a scene when everyone, especially Hill, is focused on the battle on the giant screen.
Hill felt distracted by the various weapons of the Gods of Order, and their very intriguing combat strategies, which made him fall for Celene’s trick.
However, he was truly interested in those old folks’ tactics against the enemy.
After all, he’s not someone with rich combat experience who sees an enemy and instantly knows how to handle them.
Though typically, his enemies only require his overwhelming spells to be dealt with.
Because Hill has always cast spells by connecting with the Law, making casting time short, without needing complex gestures... it’s difficult for the opponent to predict his casting direction, let alone limit him.
And if someone was stupid enough to pull him into a Plane where spellcasting wasn’t possible, it would practically be his domain.
Even though Hill is picky, he doesn’t abhor the act of bathing in enemy blood to the extent of being unwilling to take action.
However, the overly comfortable battle environment has rarely allowed Hill to win against stronger opponents... The key is, beings stronger than him often wouldn’t disgrace the World Tree.
Of course, this is partly because Hill is relatively obedient, and generally avoids places where he’s certain to meet his demise.
Even if he wanted to train himself, he wouldn’t risk his life recklessly.
When it comes to life-or-death moments, Hill isn’t unable to risk it all, but... risking his life for growth?
There’s immense fear between life and death, transcending it allows for rebirth, but that’s just a novel concept, who would truly believe that?
It’s not like failing to advance leads to regression, nor does weaker strength result in instant death.
Thus, Hill indeed has some shortcomings in this aspect.
As for the Gods of Order, they are quite suitable for him to learn from in this regard.
The greatest fortune of these fellows was being born during the early stages of the Multiverse.
Unlike today’s deities who fight over beliefs and sources of power, they schemed against each other but rarely reached lethal levels.
So, though their hearts are dark and actions ruthless, the results are just so-so.
Moreover, they have quite the tendency to bully the weak and fear the strong.
To be blunt, they’ve never truly risked it all, reaching today solely because they were born early and accumulated enough divine power.
Someone like the opposing Lord of Hell, who can wield the Ruby Scepter from unbelievable angles, striking at the gaps when a God of Order shifts to Protective Spells, displaying exceptional combat ability, is a dream these gods couldn’t achieve even in their dreams.
Because, to manage all this proficiently, one must endure the harshest blows in the entire Universe.
For instance, the Battle Angel Legion of the past, each one could take on a thousand foes alone without showing the slightest vulnerability... Those who couldn’t do it had long since turned into light.
But they had their advantages as well.
The longer they lived, the more divine power they had.
The earlier they lived, the more good things they accumulated.
Those whose reactions weren’t so agile wore exquisitely crafted protective robes... Hill stared for a long time before realizing that the thing was woven from alloy threads made from various top-tier materials: both biological and mineral resources.
Hill was actually quite curious about how this robe was made... Although he couldn’t identify other things, he could recognize some metals and plant materials.
With those, to say nothing else, the colors were rather exaggerated.
Yet this robe was a very pure white, and besides being able to withstand heavy hits, it could even proportionally offset all magic system spells.
This was truly powerful.
Hill himself had made similar things, but to blend these materials without affecting each other, he couldn’t consider the color issue at all.
Mixing materials for magic defense and physical defense was hard without them affecting each other... even if Hill could disregard the weight issue.
These old guys, able to be so arrogant today, indeed had some skills.
At the very least, their insight surpassed ordinary strong divine power by far.
There was also a God of Order, accompanied by several transparent serpentine dragons... they actually looked a bit like Teraxil’s Dragons of Time and Space.
But they appeared more like snakes.
These snakes, about a meter long, clearly had no self-awareness but were particularly sensitive to certain types of spells... As soon as a spell belonging to its type flew over, it would quickly dart over and swallow it whole.
With each swallow, the snake’s body would display a ring with a color similar to that spell’s property.
Although only one snake had ever swallowed enough, the spell it regurgitated was of a type counteracting the one it had swallowed.
If anyone thought it would regurgitate the same type as it swallowed... they’d be dead wrong.
This was truly treacherous.
Hill had never thought of playing this way.
However, this also required sufficient finances... even for Hill, accumulating enough materials would probably take quite a long time.
The strange objects converting energy inside these serpentine dragons typically only emerged by chance in worlds on the verge of collapse.
Thus, not only needed you to find such ill-fated worlds in the universe, but you also had to be lucky enough.
This God of Order was one of the few whose Ruby Scepter offered no attack enhancement.
Hill suspected that to gather so many serpentine dragons, he must have exploited such worlds struggling on the brink of doom... Although the robe was cleansed quite thoroughly in the positive energy wash, Hill could still see some traces with his eyes as a Child of Nature.
Well indeed, these Order Gods who resided year-round at the top of Heavenly Mountain usually committed major sins when they did.
Though he didn’t personally get his hands dirty, so he wouldn’t be labeled a Destroyer of Worlds, he must have done something... For instance, snuffing out some deities who liked to wander the universe and might save that world’s chance.
Or simply offering great benefits to certain power holders... Who, in order to swallow this opportunity, generally chose to completely eradicate the competition.
Although Hill didn’t think governments were essential, he knew well what humanity would turn into in a world edging toward doom without controllers or, worse, under a single dictatorship.
In such a humanity, the best future would only be preserving their own lives.
Saving the world is really hard.
After all, it’s not a mission that can be completed just by defeating the Devil King... No matter how strong the hero, faced with a task requiring global concerted effort, could do nothing but sigh in despair.
Hill sighed softly.
Everything, all these things, were good things.
Even these ingenious ideas truly amazed people.
These Order Gods really did create extraordinarily astonishing rare and exotic treasures to protect themselves.
Hill wasn’t someone with a mournful or pitying nature, yet he still felt disgusted.
Hill somewhat understood now why every time Fran used the particularly precious materials Hill provided to create valuable divine artifacts, he had to spread them downward until he could analyze using materials that were still valuable but not overly hard to find to achieve eighty percent of that artifact’s effect before announcing it to the public.
Those in high positions never considered where those things came from... they only cared if they existed.
Hill’s only consolation was that he didn’t walk pure Alchemist’s road; anything he didn’t want to bring out, no one dared make him do so.
Even the special goods from the past stemmed from his talents... others wanting them was useless.
Hill quietly watched those Order Gods on the giant screen... Fate forcing them to confront today’s Asmodeus was indeed the correct choice.
Indeed, very correct.
