Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 2248 - 823: Shaer’s Resentment
Their exchange was swift.
Hill could see that after a brief confrontation, they reached a temporary reconciliation.
He wasn’t surprised that Lansendel would seize the opportunity to catch Shaer’s misstep... After all, the suggestion that Shaer was plotting against Lansendel was a hint given by Hill himself.
Lansendel being able to understand Hill’s intentions and seize the opportunity quickly made Hill quite pleased.
However, he was a bit puzzled about where the focus of Lansendel’s words lay.
After all, it’s common for deities to give birth to offspring through the intertwining of Divine Power!
The Stone Ram God and a certain Dwarf Goddess seemed to have a child in this manner... to fulfill their so-called divine duties.
So, even if some deities inexplicably give birth to offspring together, it doesn’t mean they were truly together.
Of course, for the Divine Child born in such a way, the strength depends on the parents’ mindset... If both are just perfunctory, the Divine Child’s power would naturally be limited.
They might not even inherit significant Divine Arts.
Isn’t there a prominent example on Toril!
Marla was the result of both sides having ill intentions.
So the child that was brought forth... His combat power was not too bad, but he had almost no intelligence, let alone feelings.
So, isn’t this quite normal?
The Shadow Charms, who exist similarly to a spirit and soul, though lacking emotions, are not without intelligence.
Shaer was always dissatisfied with her Shadow Charms... but they turned out the way they did because of her own greed!
She wanted them to be traceless yet with intelligence to keep up with her pace, to respond quickly to her commands, and retained Spirit-related offensive talents—this was already a perfect result!
They were Shadow Charms born at level 12! Higher than even the purest-blooded Elves.
Among the races entirely born from the will of deities, Shadow Charms are already the strongest.
Of course, this is also because Shaer doesn’t need Shadow Charms to become an independent race... Other deities have created races, like the Shark-heads of Ambori, which can propagate independently.
Shaer’s Shadow Charms, however, require her Shadow Pool to accumulate enough energy, which she then triggers through an Array for creation.
But this fits her character well... Shaer only wants a derivative race completely under her control.
Yet, even the Wax Melt Demons brainwashed by Rose to the point of madness have fallen in love... So what if one or two out of so many Shadow Charms mutate?
Shaer and Lansendel both noticed that little bear’s confusion on its face.
This child considers the issues strictly from a practical standpoint, ignoring the malice in people’s hearts and the conversion problem of Faith Power prompted by people’s intentions.
If too many people perceive Shadow Charms as beings that understand emotions and could truly fall in love and have children, then it’s possible this race Shaer created with Divine Power might head towards becoming corporeal.
What Faith Power can accomplish is something that only Mages focused on laws and reality can understand.
Hill, though often behaving like a deity race, still has a Mage’s way of thinking.
Therefore, Hill couldn’t possibly fathom how exactly Lansendel threatened Shaer.
Shaer gently shook her head... Moreover, the Faith Power in Teraxil is still at a rudimentary stage, considered harmful by all deities.
Didn’t Toril Deities at first disregard this path as well!
They truly pursued Faith Power only after witnessing the strength of outside deities.
Especially after discovering that they wouldn’t really die... As long as there’s belief, they can reappear.
However, neither Lansendel nor Shaer are the short-sighted type to convert Faith Power into their own strength, they don’t even use it to create avatars.
Indeed, using Faith Power to create avatars would naturally increase their numbers.
And these so-called Avatar Incarnations could help deities better maintain their faith and control their Church.
But, isn’t that putting the cart before the horse?
In the end, the avatars created are all working for the Church... Thanks to Tyr’s existence, he has indeed taught a lesson to some sensible deities on Toril.
Of course, some deities are willing to learn from him. After all, it is really convenient, and once the Church’s power increases, their own strength would subsequently increase.
Whether it’s worthwhile depends on the deity’s own outlook.
Anyway, Shaer has no interest in this, doing as much work with available Divine Power, that thing called faith, in her view, can only be used for the Church itself.
She doesn’t know what Lansendel thinks, but that Great Peacock isn’t too fond of the faith avatar path either.
Generally, in a world with deities like her and Lansendel, there will naturally be those like Tyr... Although the faith path is more arduous, if one can handle it like Tyr, ultimately, the destination is the same.
Moreover, the early stage of faith deities is much easier, only the middle stage requires stronger willpower and control.
By the late stage, beings like Tyr can naturally extricate the detrimental Faith Power from their bodies and use the power of their Divine Kingdom to convert it into something else.
In short, as long as you persevere, things won’t turn out too badly.
Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many deities who still want to walk this path in the end... Unable to find a direction to move forward, yet unwilling to stay at the bottom, they can only believe their Divine Soul is strong enough to remain clear and awake.
But Teraxil clearly doesn’t want to walk the path of faith.
That’s why their Faith Power remains at the most primitive stage... Which results in someone like Hill, akin to a Divine Child, being completely unaware of what Faith Power can really achieve.
Shaer feels a bit worried... Lansendel isn’t usually this perceptive!
He generally only reacts when it’s the beginning of something that might be related to him.
Shaer wasn’t planning to do anything to Lansendel, especially since the Snowfall Isle Alliance agreement is still intact, and she doesn’t intend to break it for now.
It’s just that she doesn’t want Apollo to gain a foothold so easily.
However, she’s observed that Sun God closely for a long time... That Amanata, with just a face-to-face with Apollo, would be defeated.
Not to mention that Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, and Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, would inevitably help their brother!
Those two can play Amanata to death... That fool might even think, before meeting his end, that the other party is there to deliver gifts rather than condolence.
Of course, Shaer wouldn’t oppose the old man on this matter... She agrees with the deities he wants to target on this Path of Destiny this time.
But, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t plan to reap some benefits!
If Amanata loses too quickly, what can she do?
As for Shantia and Valkin... Ha~ From Shaer’s preference for seeking Lansendel to aid Amanata, it’s clear how much she wants those two gone!
Initially, while Shaer didn’t have much goodwill towards Valkin, she wasn’t that disgusted by her either... Fools aren’t worth considering, but there’s no need to care whether she lives or dies.
Being deceived by a Demon only proves her mind isn’t clear; being humiliated by a Demon is the price she pays for her stupidity... Though irritating, even disgracing the Goddess of Toril, it’s not a big deal.
As long as she can eventually kill Six Fingers, right?
Even if she can’t accomplish it, constantly hunting him down, relentlessly pursuing every scheme of Six Fingers and probing it to the end... Even collaborating with Devils and associating with Dimogogan, no deity on Toril stepped forward to blame her, all to give her a chance for revenge!
Even Tyr chose to turn a blind eye.
Yet, despite everyone’s goodwill, that fool ended up in such a state.
Although Hill and William both deduced Valkin might have been tainted while in the Bottomless Abyss to end up like this.
But Shaer actually knows that’s not the case.
Who could easily verify the rescued from the Bottomless Abyss is Valkin herself?
Even Valkin’s past Good Friend, Lyril, doesn’t dare make that conclusion.
No one knew Talos was replaced, but how could it be that no one tested Valkin kind?
When Valkin returned, she underwent countless scrutiny... Including Shaer and Celene, even AO intervened.
The Valkin at that time was indeed Valkin.
How interesting, having endured so much suffering in the Bottomless Abyss, she managed to come back, only to be corrupted after becoming the Goddess of Wealth!
Valkin, reaching that point, wasn’t because she couldn’t accept her past self, but because she pursued even stronger power... In the end, her resentment was against AO.
Though, even if Felunryel wasn’t destroyed, and she truly accomplished her goal: if the Multiverse has a single Gold Coin, Valkin would be eternal. Would she be able to oppose AO?
She’s overthinking it.
Moreover, another ingrate.
No deities on Toril owed Valkin anything; even the Evil Faction’s Goddesses lent a hand to her... What was the outcome?
Felunryel once, Supreme Forest another.
Who hasn’t seen through what she really is!
Shaer truly disdains Valkin’s grudge against the whole world, as if the entire world owes her.
Hence, being completely devoured by Demons isn’t such a bad outcome.
She shouldn’t have come back; at least, on Toril’s side, the impression of her would only be stupidity as her single flaw.
Shantia’s another matter... Many reasons for Shaer’s dislike towards Valkin stem from her!
The original ingrate was she.
Yet, asking Shaer to completely abandon the notion of gaining something from this Path of Destiny, she still couldn’t do it.
So, only on Amanata’s side can she make slight moves.
Shaer never imagined that one day, when faced with three choices, she would choose Amanata... He’s already that miserable, why should Lansendel live so freely?
