A small island at sea.

"Lord Rat Seven, there’s another small island not far ahead. I’ve already inquired about it. They have a good relationship with the island we went to today. Should we take them as well? After all, they’re close. If this goes on too long... won’t they...?"

A shifty-eyed mole sidled up to Rat Seven and whispered his suggestion.

Rat Seven took a drag of his cigarette and stared in the direction the mole was pointing. There was indeed a small island in the distance.

"We’ll go tomorrow. We can’t leave any evidence behind when we do things. By the way, have all the test subjects on the island been counted? How many are there?"

The little mole thought for a moment and replied, "There are 121 in total. The rest are either dead or crippled. You said you didn’t want the crippled ones, so I didn’t count them."

"Kill the crippled ones and throw them into the sea to feed the fish, along with the dead ones. Go to that island first thing tomorrow morning and get some more test subjects to bring back."

The little mole immediately agreed and hurried off to deal with the "test subjects" that had been accidentally damaged. Rat Seven took a communicator out of his pocket.

...

[Host, the side quest is complete. Remember to claim your reward! You didn’t claim it yesterday! Don’t forget today!]

Seeing that Lin Yun was about to fall asleep again, the system quickly reminded her.

Lin Yun then remembered the side quest for running the shop, which would let her expand her shelter by 5 square meters! She happily accepted the reward and decided to go and expand first thing tomorrow morning. After she claimed the reward, the next side quest popped up.

[Shop Operation Side Quest: Successfully sell 100 items within three days (0/100), and achieve a turnover of 1000 gold coins (0/1000)]

Side Quest Reward: Expand your shelter by 10 square meters (you can freely choose the expansion location)

"System, are expansion rewards the only kind of reward for side quests?"

[Not necessarily. It depends on the situation.]

"All right."

After confirming that everything was fine, Lin Yun went back to sleep.

The next morning, she went into the shelter and expanded the backyard, which was now 41 square meters. She had just made herself breakfast and was planning to eat while watching the screen when she was shocked by what she saw in the special channel. She scrolled up through the records and realized that just half an hour earlier, Fan Yulan’s profile picture and ID had turned gray. She had died.

Bai Xiaoxiao: "...They are truly heartless and insane!"

Qi Zhu: "It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have stopped her yesterday. I should have let her run away overnight."

Dong Nian: "What does it have to do with you? Even if she had run away overnight, what if she had really run into them at sea? They’re the ones who deserve to die. You did nothing wrong."

Baili Sheng: "Dong Nian is right. But who would have thought that their target today would be the small island Fan Yulan was on?"

Zhang Jinzhu: "Damn it, these people are going too far! It’s also my fault. I should have gone back to find out more information."

Guo Lei: "All right. Fan Yulan is dead now. The most important thing is to find out what they’re up to and where they’ve taken everyone."

The topic changed instantly.

Lin Yun was stunned. She had not expected that Fan Yulan, who had said she would run as soon as possible yesterday, would die just one night later.

Let’s go back to before dawn.

"Lord Rat Seven, it will be dawn in a little over an hour. Should we head to that island first?" the little mole came over and asked Rat Seven for instructions.

Rat Seven nodded and told the little mole to get ready. More than half an hour later, they landed on the small island where Fan Yulan was. A group of them quietly sneaked into the island residents’ houses and used drugs they had brought to knock out many of them. But since dawn was approaching, many residents got up early to go out to work, and that was when they ran into the people Rat Seven had brought. The residents were startled at first, then realized that these people were probably not good people, and immediately shouted out. Many residents were awakened by the shouting and rushed out of their beds. Rat Seven and his gang stopped trying to hide and confronted the islanders directly. But how could the islanders be a match for Rat Seven and his group? They had brought many secret drugs, and soon a large number of residents collapsed.

Fan Yulan hid in a room and tightly covered her mouth. She had not expected them to arrive so quickly! For a moment, Fan Yulan did not know what to do. Then she thought that maybe she could pretend to surrender and let them take her away, to see where they would take her. So when the mole discovered her, Fan Yulan did not resist, but obediently let herself be taken away. She and the other residents were locked up together and soon taken onto a ship.

On the ship, Fan Yulan did hear a lot of things and learned where the ship was headed. But things happened by coincidence. She pretended to be scared and kept shrinking back, trying to hide and find a place to type and send a message to the special channel. But before she could even open her personal panel, several residents nearby had already talked it over and suddenly stood up, ready to fight Rat Seven and his group to the death. As a result, they were thrown into the sea to feed the fish. As for the unlucky Fan Yulan, she happened to be nearby and was thrown into the sea by the mole in a fit of anger.

Before Fan Yulan could even figure out what was happening, she had already fallen into the sea. Seawater immediately rushed into her nose, making her feel extremely uncomfortable. She could not swim! The shadowy figures around her were also people thrown down by the mole’s gang. They were island residents. They could swim, but their hands and feet were tied, preventing them from swimming upward. They could only struggle in the sea, just like Fan Yulan.

Fan Yulan struggled for a while, but exhausted and terrified, she gradually lost her strength and sank deeper... Not long after, Fan Yulan’s avatar and ID in the special channel suddenly turned gray.

One morning, a survivor who was bored and had nothing to do was browsing the avatars in the channel list when he happened to see Fan Yulan, whose avatar had suddenly turned gray. The survivor stared wide-eyed and checked the record twice before incredulously sending the news to the special channel. Only then did they learn that Fan Yulan was dead.

Upon learning of this, Zhang Jinzhu immediately crawled out of his hiding place and looked out onto the sea, where he saw the ship sailing away. In an instant, he understood why Fan Yulan had suddenly died. That was why Lin Yun had seen those messages in the group again.

Lin Yun sighed. She had originally thought that this special world was relatively peaceful and that she could survive until the time was up. She had not expected that there were actually so many dark things hidden in the shadows.

Knock, knock, knock.

There was a knock at the door.

[It’s Miss Rabbit again.]

After checking, the Ghost Vine turned around and told Lin Yun, then opened the courtyard gate directly, saving her the trouble of going out to open it.
