There’s Lin Qiushu and the kids at home; he certainly needs to go back and take care of them.

Xiaomei didn’t know how to handle Yan Huan’s eagerness to go home, so she had no choice but to agree to take her back.

Section Chief Wei knew about Yan Huan’s family situation. Seeing her insist on leaving, he called a car to take her directly to the family compound of the PLA Affiliated Hospital.

The distance from the unit to the hospital is quite close; the drive is only about ten minutes, much closer than the train station is to the hospital. Although Yan Huan left after Qiu Xinyi, she arrived at the family compound ahead of her.

Xiaomei took Yan Huan upstairs and knocked on Ji Chuan’s dormitory door.

The person who opened the door was Yan Ye. Miss Tan had met Yan Ye once before and recognized him: "Brother Yan, I’ve brought Sister Yan Huan back. She drank a bit too much tonight, so let her drink more water later to sober up."

"Thank you! It’s so late and you still had to bring her back." Yan Ye supported the swaying Yan Huan and politely thanked Xiaomei.

"No need to thank me. Sister Yan Huan and I are very close. If she doesn’t trouble me, who will?" Xiaomei joked with Yan Ye and then turned to leave.

Yan Huan, supported by Yan Ye, staggered inside. Feeling her stomach churn, she didn’t say a word and rushed directly to the bathroom.

After a bout of vomiting, a cup of warm water was handed to her from behind. Yan Huan turned her head and saw her mother Feng Yuzhi standing in front of her.

"Mom! Why are you here?" Yan Huan rinsed her mouth, handed the cup back to Feng Yuzhi, and turned to leave.

"Didn’t you have a dinner gathering tonight? Your brother got a call from you and informed me. I thought it would only be your brother and Ji Chuan, and they might not even eat properly, so I came to make them a meal. Now I’m just waiting for you to come back. Look at you drinking like this. Don’t you remember there’s an injured person at home?" Feng Yuzhi began lecturing Yan Huan upon seeing her intoxicated.

"It’s not what you think!" Yan Huan rubbed her dizzy forehead, "Wasn’t it Section Chief Wei who insisted on having the dinner? To celebrate my article being published in the military district’s newspaper. And isn’t Qiu Xinyi about to be transferred away? It’s a farewell for her too!"

"You can’t handle your liquor and yet you still drank that much!"

"I really tried to refuse." Yan Huan said to Feng Yuzhi, while her mind lingered on Ji Chuan, she went straight to the living room.

"Drank too much?" Ji Chuan asked, lying half on the sofa with a chessboard before him playing with Yan Ye, and he put down his piece upon seeing Yan Huan return, "Come sit down!"

Yan Huan collapsed next to Ji Chuan, her eyes slightly blurred as she looked at him, "Did you eat well for dinner? I came back late..."

"Auntie and Yan Ye took good care of me. I had quite a sumptuous dinner. It’s you who, if you’re uncomfortable from drinking too much, should go back with Auntie to rest tonight." Ji Chuan, noticing Yan Huan’s discomfort, realized he couldn’t take care of her properly due to his limited mobility.

"I’m fine. I’ve already thrown up. I’ll be okay after resting for a bit." Yan Huan mumbled as she leaned against his shoulder with closed eyes, "Ji Chuan, has Auntie called you back? I’ve tried calling her several times today but couldn’t get through! I’m worried about how things are on her side."

"No, but maybe she’s busy today. You don’t need to worry!" Ji Chuan gently patted Yan Huan’s shoulder, "It’s kind of you to remember this."

"Of course. How could I forget when my future mother-in-law is coming?" Yan Huan said.

"Tomorrow your dad and I will go to pick up your mother-in-law. Make sure you come back early then! Tomorrow evening, let’s have a nice spread at the military district compound," added Feng Yuzhi.
