"You still need evidence?" He Yue looked down at her from above and pointed toward the room upstairs. "Don’t you get it? Even though you tricked me over the phone into bringing the laptop to Ning Chenguang, and other people didn’t believe what I said, there was one person who did. That’s my little brother."

Zhan Xiche froze for a second. "He believes you?"

"Of course." He Yue smiled at her slightly surprised expression. "Did you think everyone would believe your lies? You’re wrong. That night you lied to him, saying you were going to Teacher Zhou’s house to pick some thesis topic. Later he checked, and there was no such thing at all. And the most important point is, you came back with him, and you were smart enough to put the laptop back on the bookshelf. But you overlooked one thing: you had no idea where that laptop was supposed to go, so you just shoved it in anywhere. My brother has a photographic memory—what book on this shelf is in which spot, he remembers it clearer than anyone."

He Yue laid out every one of Zhan Xiche’s flaws, word by word, sentence by sentence, leaving her completely speechless.

In fact, when she was planning this move, she’d already figured out what to do in a flash.

If He Yue couldn’t find any evidence, she’d just bite down and refuse to admit anything.

At the same time, she was worried about one thing: she couldn’t let Ning Chenguang stop trusting her. She did want to take it out on He Yue and vent her anger, but she couldn’t ruin the image she’d finally built up in Ning Chenguang’s heart.

"You’re lying to me..." Zhan Xiche still clung to a shred of wishful thinking.

"What would I lie to you for? You can’t tell me you don’t know how much of a genius he is." He Yue raised her voice.

"I know... I know." After a brief panic, Zhan Xiche calmed down. She figured that even if Ning Chenguang suspected something, so what—she would just stay unshaken and deal with all changes. "Who says that notebook on the shelf had to be put there by me? Maybe you deliberately moved it to frame me."

"I’m framing you?" He Yue was honestly pissed enough to laugh. "This is the first time I’ve seen someone as shameless as you. Why would I frame you?"

"How should I know?" Zhan Xiche rolled her eyes, her smile carrying a hint of malice. "Maybe you’ve had feelings for Chenguang for a long, long time—secretly crushing on him, but you don’t dare say it. You’re some firewood girl from the countryside, you know you’re not good enough for him. But your jealousy makes it impossible for you to tolerate him getting close to other girls, especially someone as beautiful and outstanding as me... So you deliberately set up this trap."

He Yue was so stunned by this speech that she just stared, dumbstruck. After a few seconds she finally said, "I’ve seen shameless people, but I’ve never seen anyone as shameless as you are."

"There’s plenty you haven’t seen yet." Zhan Xiche sneered, a maturity on her face that didn’t match her age. "He Yue, remember this: I never called you. This whole thing is a play you directed and starred in yourself. I’m the real victim here."

"You!!" He Yue was practically "overwhelmed" by Zhan Xiche’s utterly shameless mindset. Shameless was one thing, but to be this righteously shameless.

In An Hao’s bedroom on the first floor, the three adults listening to the two kids’ conversation in the living room outside all silently broke into a cold sweat.

An Hao was worried for He Yue. This girl Zhan Xiche really did have a vicious mind; her age wasn’t that small, but her scheming was deep.
