A low, hoarse male voice came from the other end of the line: “It’s me.”

Song Anqi froze in surprise, her eyes widening.

The caller turned out to be Yan Zhengxiong!

If he was calling, he must have found out she’d fallen into Lu Jihan’s trap!

Panic flared; Song Anqi’s phone almost slipped from her hand as she scrambled to get up.

“Don’t move! I’m warning you, Song Anqi, you’d better behave yourself!”

Yan Zhengxiong’s voice was gloomy and sinister, like the Devil speaking from hell, sending a chill down her spine.

Forcing down the chaos in her chest, Song Anqi lifted her head and glanced at Lu Jihan, then asked, “What is it?”

Yan Zhengxiong gave a cold snort. “If you don’t want anything to happen to your parents, you’re going to tell Lu Jihan right now that his son is in your hands.”

“What?!”

“Negotiate with him. Make him let you go, and then you can let his son go.”

“…”

Song Anqi had never imagined Yan Zhengxiong would learn of her exposed identity so quickly. Now that he was using her parents’ lives to threaten her, she had no choice but to do as he said.

After all, she didn’t want to end up in Lu Jihan’s hands either.

Because that would mean being beaten back to her original form, sent back to prison, everything returning to square one.

And the revenge she’d been plotting would die on the vine.

Yan Zhengxiong’s icy, bone-piercing warning came again from the other end of the line:

“Song Anqi, you’d better watch yourself. Your whole family’s lives are in my hands. If you don’t do as you’re told, I can have your mother killed right now.”

With a cold snort, Yan Zhengxiong went on, “And that half-dead father of yours—just a little trick from me, and I can make sure he dies in the intensive care ward.”

Bang—

Song Anqi’s heart jolted, as if a hand had clamped around her throat.

It was a long while before she could steady her frantic heart even a little, and she said, “Fine. I get it.”

She hung up, lowered her head, and her mood remained turbulent for a long time.

She was weighing her options, wondering what she should do. It felt as if she had already stepped into a dead end.

No matter what she did, it seemed like all roads led to death.

If every path led to death anyway, then she might as well…

Her heart was pounding wildly, her whole body trembling uncontrollably. Only after a full minute of deliberation did she reach out, pick up the prosthetic leg from the floor, and attach it to her injured leg.

Then she braced herself on the coffee table, gritting her teeth against the sharp pain in her leg, and carefully forced herself to stand up again.

Lu Jihan kept his eyes on her face. He didn’t know who had called, but he saw the slight change in Song Anqi’s expression, and after she hung up, her entire demeanor shifted.

He had a vague sense that the caller was very likely Yan Zhengxiong.

He was just about to ask when he saw Song Anqi’s jaw tighten. She lifted her head and glared at him, gritting out, “Lu Jihan, I almost forgot something else.”

Lu Jihan lifted his brows slightly and looked up at her.

“Before I came here, I already called my people and had them stationed near your old family estate.”

At that, a stormy chill flashed through Lu Jihan’s eyes.

Seeing the cold in his gaze, Song Anqi felt a flicker of fear, but she still drew in a deep breath, cast a fearless glance out the window, and said with a cold laugh, “It’s already dawn. Your son should be heading out by now, right?”

The moment the words left her mouth, a strong, powerful hand clamped around her neck, cutting off her air. “Cough—cough…”

“Say that again. What did you do to my son?”

Fury surged through Lu Jihan as he locked his fingers around her throat and demanded in an icy voice, “What have you done to him?!”
