Chapter 446: Chapter 268: Literary Mind (2)
Su Xing initiated the farewells.
"Okay, be careful on your way," Ling Zhongxing said with a cupped fist.
With that, the two parted ways. Ling Zhongxing went back inside to deal with his unresolved sect matters, while Su Xing left the Cyan Cloud Sect, heading for the final destination of his trip.
The Lord of Luo City,
today was his funeral.
However, only two people were attending this funeral: Su Xing and Yao Yixiao. This had been decided long ago, as it was tied to an opportunity for Su Xing, and thus Yao Yixiao didn’t want anyone else to know.
Soon, Su Xing met with Yao Yixiao. After the incident with the Yin Crow, his expression was noticeably deeper than before. The first thing he asked Su Xing was whether he had delivered the letter to the Yin Crow.
Su Xing naturally had no reason to hide anything. He directly relayed the Yin Crow’s words to him. Yao Yixiao could only give a helpless laugh and say:
"We should be focusing on you today. Let’s not dwell on my past. Come on, it’s time to go to the cemetery."
"Okay," Su Xing said, nodding.
He knew Yao Yixiao must be feeling terrible, but this was something Su Xing couldn’t help with. Staying quiet was better than saying the wrong thing, so Su Xing said nothing more and simply followed Yao Yixiao to the cemetery.
This cemetery was newly built, all according to Su Xing’s arrangements. Now, only a box of ashes was left to be placed. Su Xing immediately walked up, glanced at Yao Yixiao behind him, and placed the urn he had brought from the Cyan Cloud Sect onto the offering site.
The moment Su Xing placed it down, he felt as though time and space had frozen. The sensation was very similar to entering another world during one of his system breakthroughs. This time, however, there wasn’t much pain. Instead, a figure suddenly appeared right in front of him.
Compared to the Lord of Luo City he had seen in the Spirit Realm, this version seemed more like a living person than a projection. He was startled for a moment upon seeing Su Xing, then collected himself and said with a light chuckle:
"How long have I been dead?"
"..."
Su Xing said, "Around five hundred years."
’The Spirit Realm’s history spans five hundred years. I don’t know how long he actually lived inside it, but the total time should be about right.’
"Five hundred years?"
The Lord of Luo City said with some surprise, "From the looks of you, the outside world must have undergone earth-shattering changes, hasn’t it?"
"I wonder what era it is now, and which emperor is in power? Also, what became of the Extraordinary?"
"Senior, this is now the Xia Country. As for emperors, they no longer exist. The mortal world is currently experiencing a resurgence of Spiritual Qi, and Extraordinary Beings are gradually beginning to appear."
"..."
The Lord of Luo City fell silent. He had guessed the world had changed greatly, but he never expected the changes to be this drastic.
’He couldn’t quite grasp what "emperors no longer exist" meant. Even if the emperor was gone, there must still be a supreme ruler. Wouldn’t that person just be the emperor of a new era?’
However, the matter was far too complex for a simple explanation, and Su Xing wasn’t sure how he would even begin to describe it to this senior. Thankfully, the man didn’t seem inclined to press the issue.
"How time flies," he sighed slowly. "My name is Dong Shu. I am a Literary Sect master of the Confucian Path. By the standards of the martial world, I should have the strength of a Tier Eight Powerhouse."
"A Confucian Scholar?"
Su Xing said, surprised. ’To think that Confucian Scholars no longer existed in the mortal world, yet I’ve actually met one here.’
Looking at Su Xing’s expression, Dong Shu slowly asked, "You seem surprised?"
"Could it be that the literary lineage has been broken in the outside world?"
"..."
"I don’t know for certain if the literary lineage has been broken, but since the resurgence of Spiritual Qi, given my strength, I have yet to meet a single Confucian Scholar," Su Xing said seriously.
"..."
Dong Shu was silent for a moment before saying, "It’s merely the changing of eras. Even back in the age of Emperor Qin, very few people embarked on the cultivation path of a Confucian Scholar."
"After all, there are so many Extraordinary paths in this world; it’s just a matter of which path is best suited for the times. A pity... I am but a frail scholar. You went through so much trouble to return my soul to its home, yet I have nothing to give you."
"In the past, with my Tier Eight strength, there were many things I could have given you. But with the literary lineage broken, and seeing that you are not a Confucian Scholar yourself, after careful thought, I find I have nothing suitable to pass on to you."
Dong Shu said helplessly, "How about this."
"I see you possess a Spirit Root and a Martial Bone, so you must be cultivating two systems at once. Why don’t I bestow my own Scholarly Heart upon you as well?"
After speaking, without waiting for Su Xing’s consent, Dong Shu shot the Scholarly Heart stored within him directly into Su Xing’s body. Su Xing felt as if he’d been shot by a bullet, but there wasn’t the slightest bit of pain.
When he came to his senses, Su Xing discovered a peculiar energy had appeared inside his body. It was completely different from the Spiritual Qi from his Spirit Root and the Qi and Blood from his Martial Bone. This was clearly the Righteous Qi from the Scholarly Heart.
A wisp of Righteous Qi, a thousand miles of joyous wind.
’This was a power unique to Confucian Scholars. But Su Xing knew he was no man of letters, and he was ignorant of the Confucian classics. This made him worry whether he could even cultivate Righteous Qi.’
But this worry vanished the moment the words "Confucian Root" appeared on his system panel, and Su Xing’s worries were put to rest.
[Confucian Root] [Immortal Root] [Martial Root]
The Immortal Martial Root seemed to have undergone a special transformation, changing from the original into an Immortal Martial Confucian Root. Unfortunately, this so-called Confucian Root was still only at tier one, so Su Xing didn’t feel any stronger.
After all...
at the end of the day, Su Xing was still a Martial Artist.
Although he now possessed an Immortal Root and a Confucian Root, Su Xing didn’t actually know any of the techniques of Qi Cultivators or Confucian Scholars. He only used Spiritual Qi in the crudest way to enhance his own power. His Righteous Qi was not yet fully formed, so naturally, he couldn’t feel any increase in his strength.
’Thinking of this, Su Xing suddenly felt that once he had raised his Qi Cultivation and Confucian Path realms, he should really learn their combat styles and various techniques. Perhaps it would make him even more powerful.’
As the Scholarly Heart completely stabilized, Dong Shu just smiled faintly and said, "This Scholarly Heart once reached Tier Eight. As long as you cultivate step-by-step, you should also be able to reach the Tier Eight realm."
"When that time comes, you will also possess your own Lifebound Character. And when you do, you will definitely thank me."
As his voice fell, he waved his hand, and the world began to flow again. The figure in front of Su Xing shattered and disappeared. Su Xing was inwardly amazed, as he couldn’t comprehend what kind of technique that was at all.
"Are you all right?"
Yao Yixiao asked. He was a Tier Eight Powerhouse, after all. Although he didn’t know what had just happened, he could sense that *something* definitely had.
But this matter,
’it seemed he had been shielded from it.’
"I met the Lord of Luo City. He told me some things."
Su Xing nodded. He didn’t mention the Scholarly Heart. He now possessed elements from three different Extraordinary systems, and he was a little unsure if he should reveal this.
Therefore, Su Xing subconsciously hid it, planning to ask Li Longxuan about it after returning to Cang City. Yao Yixiao knew the matter wasn’t so simple, but it was someone else’s opportunity. Since Su Xing wasn’t willing to talk, Yao Yixiao naturally wouldn’t press him. He just nodded and said with a smile:
"In that case, all your business in Luocheng is settled. Have you decided where you’re going next?"
