System Anomaly: The Sin of Greed[LitRPG/Prog Fem/Anti-Hero]
Chapter 53 – Sludge and Steel.
The lava lake in the center of the amphitheater didn't merely bubble, it erupted upward like a twenty-meter volcanic column, splashing molten rock against the dungeon's sealed ceiling.
From inside that incandescent furnace, the creature emerged.
It wasn't made of ordinary stone or beast flesh. The monster was an eight-meter-tall titan forged from solid plates of ancestral silver, thoroughly corrupted by black veins of abyssal mana pulsing like diseased arteries. Four hollow sockets in its sculpted head burned with crimson flames, and its physical presence made the cavern air weigh so heavily that breathing felt like swallowing Ashards of hot glass.
The System interface appeared before Diana in a red so dark it looked like fresh blood dripping down the screen:

[SUPREME ALERT: SOVEREIGN OF THE ERUPTION DETECTED!]
[Corrupted Silver Colossus - Level 40 (Ancestral Boss)]
- HP: 4,500 / 4,500 | MP: 1,200 / 1,200
- Hazard Classification: Catastrophic.

Level 40. Four thousand five hundred hit points.
Even the System's voice in Diana's mind lost its ironic tone, resonating in a tense whisper:
—Diana… this isn't a Hall Boss. It's an ancestral monstrosity that's supposed to be sleeping at the bottom of the Third Circle. The Eruption pulled this thing straight up.
Cassius took two heavy steps back, his gray eyes fixed on the titan. The Silver Legion commander, with all his Level 32 experience, grasped the reality of that encounter in half a second: there was no beating that creature in a direct exchange of damage.
“FULL DEFENSE!” Diana and Cassius screamed the order at the exact same second.

The Devastating Impact of Level 40

The Colossus didn't wait for the hunters to form a line.
With a speed incompatible with its titanic size, the Level 40 monster brought its closed left fist crashing down into the center of the amphitheater.
BOOM!
The shockwave of pure physical blow cracked the basalt floor into a ten-meter crater.
Kael attempted to intercept the shockwave with his Volcanic Steel Shield, activating [Unshakeable Stance]. But the disparity between a Level 40 attack and a Level 24 warrior's resistance was far too brutal.
The impact hurled Kael fifteen meters away. His shield's volcanic metal buckled inward with a deafening crack, and the boy crashed against the cavern's rock wall, spitting blood, his health bar plunging from 550 to 180 HP on a single indirect hit.
“KAEL!” Aurelia-Elysia screamed.
The priestess tried to raise her staff to cast a triple barrier, but the heat wave generated by the Colossus's abyssal mana swept the rear. Aurelia's magic barriers shattered like thin glass, and the mana backlash recoiled into her own body, bringing the girl to her knees on the stone, gasping with her magic channels completely depleted, blood trickling from her nose.
On the right flank, the three veteran Silver Legion officers tried to drive shock spears into the beast's legs to pin its advance.
The Colossus didn't even turn its head. It merely swept its right arm in a blind horizontal arc.
The back of the monster's silver gauntlet swept all three legionnaires at once, snapping their steel spears in half and hurling the soldiers against the stalactites. The officers collapsed unconscious in the dust, armor crumpled and ribs fractured.
Rhea used [Phantom Step] with Agility 74 to try drawing the monster's attention away from Aurelia-Elysia. But a shrapnel of glowing stone thrown by the shockwave grazed the wolf girl's left shoulder, tearing her silk coat and sending her rolling in the gravel, clutching her bloody arm.
Diana blinked with [Arcane Teleportation], appearing above Rhea and raising an Intelligence 98 [Reinforced Mana Barrier] to block a rain of magma that nearly incinerated the scout.
“Fall back to the rock fissure with Kael and Aurelia!” Diana ordered Rhea, her voice raspy from the heat. “NOW!”
Rhea bit her lower lip, her ears drooping in pain, but she obeyed, dragging herself toward the rock cover to protect her two fallen companions.

In under three minutes of combat, six of the eight hunters were out of the fight.
In the center of the steaming crater of the Hall of Titans, only two people remained standing between the flaming ground and the Level 40 Ancestral Boss:
Diana, her Dragon Chestplate smoking and dagger raised.
And Cassius, his Gravity Cleaver trembling in his iron gauntlets.
The Colossus raised both massive arms high, gathering a colossal sphere of corrupted magma above its head, gearing up to deliver the strike that would vaporize the entire amphitheater in one stroke.
In that second suspended between life and death, time seemed to slow down for Cassius.

Facing imminent death, memories did not come in neatly arranged words. They flooded in dirty, painful visual flashes buried for decades deep in Cassius's soul.
He saw himself as a child.
A skinny boy with gray skin covered in sores and coal ash, digging through rotten trash piles in the filthiest alleys of Hell's First Circle. He had no mother, no father, no noble last name.
He remembered the acid rain burning his bare shoulders.
He remembered the sound of aristocratic demons laughing as they rode past in luxury carriages, tossing rocks at his head for sport. He remembered seeing his little street buddies dying of cold and hunger in the infernal winter, piled up like disposable animals in sewer corners.
He remembered the day he swore to himself, fingers bleeding from digging in hard dirt:
I'm not dying in the mud.
I'm gonna become a wall.
I'll never let anyone step on me again.
He had forged every single one of his 68 Strength points breaking his own bones in stone quarries, fighting in underground gladiator pits for scraps of bread, until building the Silver Legion from absolute zero with his own blood.
He hadn't spent his entire life surviving the absolute worst Hell had to offer just to die squashed in the dust of a dungeon.

Adrenaline's Awakening

Cassius's gray eyes flared with a flame of blind, savage fury.
The veins in his neck bulged dark against his skin, and pure adrenaline flooded his bloodstream, shutting off any pain or fear receptors in his brain.
“I'M NOT DYING HERE!” Cassius roared from the bottom of his chest, a bellow so visceral it cut right through the lava's roar.
He sprinted across the crater bed in a straight line, ignoring the magma pits that scorched the soles of his metal boots.
Diana, observing the movement through [Command Eye], grasped Cassius's suicidal plan in the exact same millisecond.
She didn't tell him to stop. She gave him the exact support he needed.
Diana channeled 60 MP into both open hands.
Mana Prison + Arcane Ice Lance!
Diana launched the transparent chains directly into the Colossus's left shoulder joint, sealing that limb's mana circulation for four seconds, while driving a colossal ice stake into the fold of the creature's silver armor, creating a critical thermal fracture in the metal.
Cassius leaped.
Propelled by his Strength 68 driven to the absolute max by adrenaline, the Legion commander soared twelve meters into the air, crossing the glowing smoke.
At the peak of his jump, Cassius spun his body with the full weight of his heavy armor and brought down his Silver Gravity Cleaver with all the fury of his existence directly onto the frozen fracture Diana had created.
SILVER GRAVITY SLASH!
CRACK-BOOM!
The sound was like an iron mountain splitting open.
Cassius's cleaver blade sliced right through the corrupted plates of ancestral silver, shattering the magic joints and severing the entire left arm of the Level 40 Colossus!
The three-ton colossal limb plunged into the lava lake with a monumental crash, raising a wave of molten silver that washed over the hall's banks.

The Colossus unleashed a howl of agony that shook the entire basalt ceiling, the crimson flames of its eyes flickering in pure hatred as black magma gushed from the shoulder wound.
Cassius landed heavily on the broken stone five meters from the monster, dropping onto one knee, his breath issuing in puffs of smoke and blood. His chest armor was cracked from the exertion, and his two-handed cleaver blade had three teeth dented from the impact.
Diana blinked beside him via [Arcane Teleportation], adjusting her dark steel dagger in her right hand, her left hand covered in the black flames of Intelligence 98.
The two commanders were alone in the center of the crater.
Their companions were wounded and out of commission in the rear.
Before them, with three thousand two hundred hit points remaining and its right arm raised in flaming fury, the Level 40 Colossus readied itself for the final slaughter.
Cassius wiped blood from his mouth with the back of his cracked gauntlet, letting out a raspy, wild laugh toward Diana.
“It takes way more than this to break me, Commander of Greed…” Cassius said, his gray eyes sparking with battle.
Diana looked at the open wound on the titan's shoulder, then at the warrior beside her, a cold, relentless smile shaped on her lips.
“Save the chat for after we tear this thing's head off, Cassius.” Diana declared, magic energy burning around her body. “It's just the two of us now.”
Final Notes:
Cassius tanking the beast all by himself, yeah, for everyone to see he deserves the rank he holds.
