The entrance to the Sanctuary of the Fallen Titans (Level 40) was embedded in the gray cliff face of the southern sector's highest mountain range.

The temple was an ancient structure of dark granite and cast iron, supported by twelve-meter-tall columns that seemed to guard the mountain pass. The air there was not hot like in the lava rifts. Instead, it was dry, cold, and laden with a low hum of arcane gears turning beneath the ground.

At the guild post guarding the passage, Diana handed two silver coins to the sentinel on duty, securing the group's expedition permit. With that, the faction's vault balance adjusted to three hundred and sixty-eight silver coins before they crossed the portal.

Diana walked in front, feeling the Crown of Arcane Sovereignty cold against her forehead and the flow of 1,160 mana points primed for any spell. Beside her, Rhea kept her senses sharp with 109 Agility, Kael held the Volcanic Shield with his 930 health points, Aurelia-Elysia carried her staff charged with 870 MP, and Seraphina checked her grimoire equipped with the new Level 36 Imperial Core.

The squad was confident. They had defeated a Level 40 Dragon in the Glass Gorges and a Level 38 Emperor in the Labyrinth.

But aconfidence in uncharted dungeons exacts a heavy price.

***

The advance through the temple's outer chambers was swift. The lesser Level 38 golems were destroyed without difficulty by Kael's vanguard and Rhea's daggers.

The real problem awaited at the heart of the dungeon: the Iron Throne Chamber.

When the double granite doors swung open, the group faced a fifty-meter circular room, lit by green-fire torches mounted on the walls.

In the center of the room stood not just one monster. There was a full squad of four ancient entities operating in tight combat formation:

In the center rose the Ancient Steel Titan (Level 40 - Sanctuary Boss), a five-meter automaton forged from black plates of hardened iron, wielding a two-ton warhammer that vibrated with kinetic shockwaves.

Flanking the Titan floated two Resonator Archmages (Level 39) clad in gray robes, clutching quartz scepters that emitted continuous pulses of static.

And in the rear stood a Gravitational Pulse Guardian (Level 39), a floating core of iron gears spinning a meter above the floor.

Diana activated her 183 Intelligence [Command Eye] immediately.

But before she could trace the first firing vector, the Gravitational Guardian drove its metal rods into the chamber floor.

Gravitational Pulse Activated!

An invisible wave of crushing weight washed across the entire room.

Local gravity multiplied fourfold in half a second.

Rhea, who had already sprinted forward using [Phantom Step], felt the crushing gravity pin her boots to the stone. Her absurd speed of 109 Agility was cut in half, dragging the wolf girl downward and causing her to stumble on the stone before reaching the monster's flank.

At the same time, the two Resonator Archmages raised their scepters, discharging a sharp, high-frequency hum that swept through the chamber's air.

The archmages' spell dealt no physical damage. It was a spell of Mana Matrix Destabilization.

Diana raised her hands to cast [Mana Prison] and [Ice Lance], but the moment the magical energy left her fingers, static from the enemy scepters unraveled the spell's ley-lines in midair, causing the ice lances to shatter into harmless water before reaching their target.

That enemy squad had been designed specifically to negate speed and ranged spells.

The Level 40 Steel Titan seized upon the group's broken formation.

The monster swung its two-ton hammer, activating its skill: [Piercing Shockhammer].

It lunged forward with heavy strides that cracked the granite floor, aiming the blow directly at Seraphina and Aurelia-Elysia in the rear.

Kael did not hesitate.

The vanguard took three heavy steps through the crushing gravity, planted himself in front of the two girls, and slammed his Volcanic Shield into the rock with his 930 HP, activating [Unshakable Stance].

“NOT HERE, YOU PIECE OF SCRAP!” Kael roared.

The Titan's hammer crashed down like a falling boulder.

BOOOOOOM!

The impact was not merely physical. The hammer unleashed a shockwave of kinetic piercing that bypassed the shield's face, ignoring the damage-reflection passive and driving the full brunt of the strike directly into Kael's arm and shoulder.

A dry, horrific crack of breaking bone echoed through the chamber.

Kael's left arm snapped at the elbow. The volcanic steel of the shield buckled inward, and the heavy dragon armor caved under the pressure, tearing the shoulder straps apart.

Kael's health bar plummeted in a single second: from 930 to a mere 45 HP.

Kael fell to his knees on the stone, vomiting a mouthful of dark blood onto the floor, his broken arm dangling limp at his side, unable to raise the shield again.

The Titan raised the hammer for a second strike, ready to crush the fallen warrior's head.

In that split second, Diana's instincts as Commander took absolute control.

She did not press the attack. She did not let greed for victory blind her mind.

Kael's life was a millimeter away from ending.

“RETREAT! RETREAT FORMATION NOW!” Diana screamed, her voice echoing throughout the entire temple with desperate authority.

Diana used [Arcane Teleportation].

She flickered eight meters through the heavy air, appearing directly between the Titan's hammer and the fallen Kael.

Diana seized the collar of Kael's armor with her right hand, dragging the warrior's ninety-kilogram body with all the 18 Strength she possessed.

Seraphina slammed her hand down on her grimoire, tears in her eyes:

Summoning: Level 38 Runic Quartz Titan!

Seraphina's stone Titan materialized in midair, throwing itself in front of the boss's hammer. The Level 40 monster's blow shattered Seraphina's golem to pieces in a single hit, but it bought the two vital seconds the squad needed.

Aurelia-Elysia rushed over to Diana, pouring a greater healing potion into Kael's mouth while projecting an improvised [Protection Barrier] behind them all.

Rhea darted with what speed she had left, slashing the legs of one of the archmages to delay the pursuit.

Diana activated [Hidden Treasure Sight] with her 70 Perception points.

Her eyes swept over the chaotic chamber and spotted a concealed fissure behind a fallen statue along the eastern wall: a narrow burial crypt blocked by a cracked stone slab.

“THERE! INTO THAT GAP!” Diana commanded.

***

The group hauled Kael through the narrow gap in the wall.

Rhea and Seraphina entered first, dragging the wounded vanguard into the dark crypt. Diana entered last and turned toward the one-meter-wide opening.

She funneled all her MP into a triple [Arcane Ice Lance].

The solid ice spike filled the rock opening from side to side, freezing the fissure gap and sealing the passage with three meters of hardened ice.

Outside, the Titan's hammer slammed against the stone wall three times with deafening crashes, shaking dust from the crypt's ceiling. But the monsters, having no magical line of sight and no room to maneuver their massive bodies into the crevice, ceased their attacks after a few minutes and returned to the center of the throne room.

The immediate danger had passed.

***

The hidden crypt measured four meters wide by four meters long, with a low ceiling covered in cobwebs and a cold stone floor.

Kael lay on his back upon the stone floor, breathing with difficulty, his face pale and drenched in cold sweat. His left arm was twisted at an unnatural angle, and his dragon armor was crushed in against his chest.

Aurelia-Elysia was on her knees beside him, weeping softly while keeping both hands over the vanguard's chest, continuously channeling [Area Heal] and [Cellular Restoration].

Kael's health bar climbed slowly from 45 to 190 HP, but the broken bone required manual resetting before the flesh sealed improperly.

Diana knelt beside Kael.

The Commander took off her leather gloves, revealing her black obsidian claws.

“Kael, look at me,” Diana said, her voice calm and firm as she held the warrior's shoulder.

Kael opened his brown eyes, trying to force a faint smile through bloodstained teeth. “I... I held the first strike, Commander...”

“You held the strike and saved the backline, Kael,” Diana said gently. “Now bite down on this piece of leather. I'm going to set the bone.”

Kael bit down on the leather strap Rhea offered.

Diana grasped Kael's forearm and broken elbow with the steady firmness of her 18 Strength and pulled the bone with a sharp snap, aligning the fracture with surgical precision.

Kael groaned loudly against the leather, his entire body going taut with pain before slumping back against the stone floor. Aurelia-Elysia poured another wave of healing mana into the aligned arm, and tissue began knitting around the properly positioned bone.

Rhea and Seraphina slumped against the cold crypt wall, panting heavily, their hands shaking with the adrenaline of a battle that had nearly cost their comrade his life.

For the first time since arriving in the Second Circle, the Arcane Greed Faction had been forced to retreat.

Diana sat on the stone floor beside Kael, the Crown of Sovereignty glowing faintly in the gloom of the sealed tomb.

She looked down at her Archdemon claws stained with Kael's blood.

Her dark eyes with golden rings narrowed in cold, deep, calculating fury.

The defeat had been caused by a flawless combination of enemy abilities: gravity to counter speed, resonance to counter spells, and piercing impact to shatter the shield.

Diana drew her black steel dagger and began sketching a diagram of the room into the dust on the crypt floor.

They were cornered in a hiding spot inside the dungeon. Kael's arm was mending. But Diana had no intention of fleeing the temple without that Level 40 Titan's head.

A new plan was taking shape in the tomb's darkness.
