Chapter 68: Cracked Open Zombies’ Heads

Along the way, Ruan Weisong noticed the scattered zombie corpses. Every corpse’s head had been cracked open, with brain matter flowing out through the cracks.

Looking at those corpses, the members of the Chi Wen Team felt their stomachs churning. One of the female members couldn’t suppress her nausea any longer and vomited on the spot.

"Blergh~!"

The second she vomited, the other members’ expressions turned green. They ran to the side, bent over, and vomited up their lunch.

"Blergh!"

In the silent surroundings, only the sounds of vomiting and the faint zombies’ roars could be heard.

Looking at his team members’ conditions, Yin Kaiming said, "Captain, it looks like they are not in good condition to continue our mission right now."

"Mhm. I can see that," Ruan Weisong responded calmly.

More than five minutes passed before the group’s vomiting finally ended.

Seeing that they had nothing left to vomit, Ruan Weisong said, "Gather."

When his words fell, the members of the Chi Wen Team quickly rinsed their mouths with water, then wiped their faces clean before walking toward Ruan Weisong and Yin Kaiming.

After everyone gathered in front of him, Ruan Weisong calmly scanned his members’ faces. Besides being a little pale, they seemed fine.

A few moments passed in silence before he asked, "Can you guys fight in this condition?"

The members nodded and said in unison, "Yes, Captain."

Receiving their answer, Ruan Weisong continued, "The Blood Moon has descended for more than six months now. You guys should have already adapted to this kind of environment. When we finish this mission, I will conduct special training for our team."

When he said this, the members groaned in pain, but none of them dared to protest.

Glancing at his watch, Ruan Weisong added, "Let’s go."

Without giving them a chance to speak, Ruan Weisong turned around and entered the office building.

Seeing that the members were still standing there, Yin Kaiming asked, "What’s wrong? You guys want to stay here and accompany those corpses?"

The second he asked this, the members of the Chi Wen Team hurriedly shook their heads like rattle drums.

Liu Yun sniffed, then rubbed her nose and whispered, "I’m fine."

Seeing that she was alright, Gu Zhenwei and Lan Zuancheng refocused their attention on Ye Jin and the others, who were searching for the treasure inside an office room.

Meanwhile, on the ground floor, Yin Kaiming and the members of the Chi Wen Team found their captain standing in the lobby, deep in thought.

Approaching him, Yin Kaiming asked, "Captain, have you found something?"

Pulled out of his thoughts, Ruan Weisong turned around and saw Yin Kaiming approaching.

He glanced at the rest of his team members, then looked at Yin Kaiming and asked, "Kaiming, don’t you find these corpses weird?"

When asked by him, Yin Kaiming looked at the zombies’ corpses on the ground, then replied, "Besides their cracked heads, these zombies’ corpses are the same as usual. Rotten and dirty."

Receiving his answer, Ruan Weisong asked further, "Do you think a normal person would crack open the zombies’ heads for no reason?"

When he asked this, one of the team members suddenly said, "Captain, could it be that the one who cracked these heads is looking for something?"

Looking at the male member, Ruan Weisong asked, "Do you know something?"

The member scratched his cheek shyly and replied, "I used to read fantasy novels before the descent of the Blood Moon. In those novels, the authors used to mention that inside zombies’ heads or mutants’ bodies, there are some kind of crystals containing energy."

"These crystals could be absorbed by ordinary people to awaken special abilities, or by ability users to replenish their energy and level up their abilities."

Listening to his explanation, Ruan Weisong’s eyes flickered with interest, while Yin Kaiming and the other members looked at the male member with bright eyes.

Being stared at by them, the male member shuddered and hurriedly raised his hands in surrender.

"Don’t look at me like that! This is just my guess!"

Walking up to him, Ruan Weisong patted his shoulder. "Tell me more about this matter after we return to the base."

The male member’s eyes lit up at his words.

This was a rare opportunity to earn their Captain’s recognition!

Saluting him, the male member excitedly replied, "Yes, Captain!"

Turning to the others, Ruan Weisong added, "For now, let’s focus on our mission first. On the way, if you guys find any unopened zombie heads, crack them open and try to find whatever is inside."

Although the members felt nauseous and disgusted when they imagined themselves stirring the zombies’ brains, their Captain’s order was absolute.

Swallowing their protests, the members of the Chi Wen Team could only accept their fate.

"Yes, Captain."

With that, the team continued their mission and followed the footprints upstairs.
