System Glitch! I Accidentally Saved The Zombie Emperor
Chapter 92: The Black Vines Retreat
When the soldier saw the first soldier’s face, he shouted with a hint of joy in his voice, "Someone has successfully escaped from the black vines!"
As soon as his words echoed amid the intense battle, the other soldiers looked in the direction he pointed and saw the soldier running toward them.
Before the soldier could react, the first soldier shouted, "Brothers, hurry up and save Captain Lian! He needs backup!"
The moment he said this, the other soldiers’ expressions sank.
One of the team captains threw a fireball at the black vines attacking his teammates, then shouted, "Half of you follow me! The rest will stay here and destroy the black vines!"
"Roger that!" The soldiers responded, then quickly divided into two teams.
Turning to the first soldier, the captain asked, "Can you still move?"
The soldier nodded. "Yes."
The captain looked at the soldier’s pale face for two seconds, then said, "Lead the way."
With the soldier leading the way, the captain and his team rushed toward the vegetation and disappeared into the darkness.
Seeing this, one of the remaining captains scanned the battlefield, then ordered, "Fire-element ability users, burn the black vines! The rest of you, cover them!"
"Yes, sir!"
Without wasting even a second, the soldiers quickly formed small teams consisting of one fire-element ability user and three other soldiers.
Standing with their backs to each other, the soldiers possessing fire-element abilities threw fireballs toward the black vines, while other soldiers destroyed the black vines attacking them.
Whoosh! Boom!
The moment the fireballs landed on the black vines, they exploded and burned the vines.
Seeing this, one of the soldiers possessing wind-element abilities quickly channeled his wind-element energy and controlled the wind in the area.
Soon, a small tornado appeared.
"Go!" the soldier shouted as he pushed the tornado toward the burning black vines.
The second the small tornado came into contact with the flames, it grew exponentially and turned into a fire tornado in an instant.
Whoosh!
The heat emitted from the fire tornado was so intense that the soldiers’ faces turned red in just a few seconds.
One of the captains saw this and ordered, "Move away from the fire tornado!"
As soon as he said this, the soldiers quickly moved away from the fire tornado.
At the same time, the other soldiers possessing wind-element abilities exchanged looks.
They nodded to each other, then raised their hands. Controlling their wind-element energy, they followed the first wind-element ability user’s example and created small tornadoes.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
In less than five seconds, more than a dozen small tornadoes appeared.
Realizing what they wanted to do, the soldiers possessing fire-element abilities created more fireballs and threw them toward the small tornadoes.
Whoosh~! Whoosh~! Whoosh~!
As soon as the fireballs came into contact with the small tornadoes, they were consumed. A second later, the small tornadoes grew, then all of them turned into fire tornadoes.
Gritting his teeth, one of the soldiers possessing a wind-element ability controlled the fire tornado as he shouted, "Everyone, retreat!"
Without hesitation, all the soldiers except those controlling the fire tornadoes retreated from the battlefield.
When he saw that everyone had retreated to a safe distance, the soldier ordered, "Brothers, burn them now!"
Following his lead, the other soldiers controlled their fire tornadoes toward the black vines. Wherever the fire tornadoes went, the ground was scorched black, and the black vines were burned to a crisp.
"Kii!"
As the shrill scream echoed through the silent night, the black vines suddenly retreated, running as fast as they could from the fire tornadoes.
Witnessing this, one of the captains said, "Don’t chase after them!"
The moment he said this, the soldiers controlling the fire tornadoes clenched their hands. A second later, the fire tornadoes slowly dissipated.
Before the soldiers could celebrate their victory, the wind-element ability users all fell to the ground.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Seeing this, the captains and other soldiers hurriedly rushed toward them.
Squatting beside one of the unconscious soldiers, a medic soldier quickly pressed his fingers against the unconscious soldier’s wrist.
"How is he?" asked one of the captains anxiously.
The medic soldier looked at him, then grimly replied, "He has overdrawn his energy and fallen into a coma."
As an ability user, the captain knew how serious it was for an ability user to overdraw their energy. Looking at his unconscious comrades, the captain ordered, "Carry them all, then regroup with the convoy!"
"Yes, sir!"
With that, the soldiers carried the unconscious wind-element ability users on their backs, then returned to the convoy, leaving only scorched ground and the smell of burning in the air.
Meanwhile, Lian Tianci was on his way back to the village entrance when he noticed that the black vines had stopped chasing him.
Before he could figure out why, he saw countless black vines rushing toward him from the direction of the village.
Lian Tianci’s eyes turned cold at this sight as he prepared for another battle against the black vines. However, just when he created six daggers, the black vines rushed past him without stopping.
Whoosh!
Stunned by what had just happened, Lian Tianci stopped in his tracks. Turning around, he saw the black vines retreating into the darkness as if they were being chased by something terrifying.
Frowning slightly, Lian Tianci thought, ’What are they running away from? For something as strong as the giant tree to run away, the thing chasing after the black vines might be even more dangerous and troublesome than the giant tree.’
As this thought appeared in his mind, Lian Tianci’s heart sank.
One giant tree was already hard to deal with. If there was another existence that was more dangerous than the giant tree, then the military might not be able to deal with it.
While he was worrying about the future of humanity, someone spotted him.
"It’s Captain Lian!"
Pulled out of his thoughts by that shout, Lian Tianci turned around. Seeing the approaching soldiers, his expression relaxed slightly.
Stopping two steps in front of him, the captain asked, "Captain Lian, are you all right? We heard that you needed backup, so we came to find you."
Lian Tianci saw the soldier he had saved earlier standing amongst the other soldiers, then said, "The situation is more dangerous than I thought. Let’s regroup with the team first before I report this to the headquarters."
Looking at his grim expression, the captain and the soldiers nodded. "Yes, Captain Lian."
Lian Tianci looked at the darkness behind him one last time, then said, "Let’s go."
Following him, the captain and soldiers ran back to the village entrance.
At the same time, standing near the military truck, Ye Xuan and Gu Zhenwei grew anxious as they waited for Liu Yun.
