Tempting Him to Lose Control
Chapter 109: Obsessive Possession
Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Obsessive Possession
Miles turned his head, avoiding her lips.
The apple slice hovered in mid-air. Claire, caught in an awkward position, could only swallow the piece of fruit sheepishly.
She licked her lips. It was sour.
The hospital room was dead silent, the air heavy and oppressive.
After a long while, Miles finally spoke, each word seemingly forced from between his teeth.
"You were injured. Why did you still go to the family estate?"
His eyes were ice-cold. "Claire, I want the truth."
Claire was taken aback by the question. "Because you’re my husband, and I didn’t want them to bully you."
’Another hollow, meaningless answer.’
’When is she ever going to trust me?’
A self-deprecating curve formed on Miles’s lips, his eyes churning with emotion. He coldly bit out one word.
"Liar."
Claire hooked her arm around his, tilting her small face up to look at him and shaking her head.
"I’m not lying. I’m telling the truth, but you just don’t believe me."
Miles lowered his gaze, prying her fingers off one by one.
He raised his hand, his thumb pressing punishingly against her red lips, rubbing them harshly twice.
"This mouth of yours... you’re really good at sweet-talking people."
"Are you even worth trusting anymore?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Miles turned to leave.
His words were harsh, and a painful sourness filled Claire’s heart.
’Is it because I was late to the family dinner, or is it because of Jacob?’
Claire didn’t understand, but the most pressing matter was to pacify him.
"Miles, can’t you just stay and keep me company?"
Her voice grew quieter and quieter, full of grievance.
"My leg hurts..."
Hearing those three words, Miles froze.
His back was stiff. He stood there silently for a long moment before walking back to the bed, choosing to compromise.
"Just for tonight."
Seeing she had succeeded, Claire pushed her luck, rubbing against his arm. "Then you can sleep here tonight."
"This bed... is big enough~" Claire invited.
Miles stared at her for a few seconds before his resolve crumbled completely. He grunted an affirmation.
"I know."
’All it took was for her to be a little soft, to show the slightest sign that she needed him, and his defenses would completely fall apart. He couldn’t bring himself to be harsh with her.’
The lights were turned off, and the room plunged into darkness, leaving only the sound of breathing.
"Miles? Are you asleep?"
No response.
"Why were you angry today? I think communication is the most important thing between a husband and wife."
Still no response.
Claire tilted her head to look at him, but she couldn’t see his face clearly. ’Is he really asleep?’
She snuggled closer to him, pressing her whole body against his. "Miles, your heart is beating so fast."
Her scent filled his nostrils. Miles’s eyelashes fluttered, but he kept his eyes closed.
"Stop pretending," Claire said, poking his chest. "I know you’re not asleep, Dr. Warren. Your breathing is too heavy."
As she spoke, she slid her hand under the covers, tracing over Miles’s abs and continuing downward with mischievous intent.
With swift reflexes, the man grabbed her wrist. His voice was deep and hoarse, laced with a warning.
"Claire."
"What?" she retorted brazenly. "It’s not a crime to touch my own husband."
"Your leg is still injured."
Claire propped herself up, her eyes shining. "My leg is injured, but my hands aren’t."
"Don’t mess around. Go to sleep."
"Hold me while we sleep."
...
She continued her threat in a soft voice, "If you don’t hold me, I’ll keep touching you."
Miles lost.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace and closing the distance between them.
Claire nestled in his arms, found a comfortable position, and silently added in her heart: ’Now that he’s holding me, I’m definitely going to touch him more.’
"Ngh..."
Miles let out a muffled groan at her touch. He knew she was doing it on purpose, and his Adam’s apple bobbed.
Her eyes were especially cunning and triumphant; she knew he would give in.
’Whether it was his heart or his body, he was utterly subservient to her. Like a moth to a flame, he was drawn to her, heedless of the consequences.’
He seized Claire’s mischievous hand.
He lowered his head and captured her lips, his kisses trailing from her mouth to her neck, filled with a paranoid possessiveness, both fierce and forceful.
She gasped, "Gently."
"You asked for this."
Ambiguous, suppressed sounds echoed from within the suite.
’Only when he possessed her with such crude, primal means, hearing her call his name over and over as she begged for mercy, would he feel a fleeting sense of security.’
’Only then could he feel like Claire wouldn’t leave him...’
After everything had quieted down, Claire was fast asleep, her breathing deep and even.
Miles cleaned her up and changed her into a fresh set of clothes.
He had soiled the ones she was wearing before.
The man’s long, slender fingers caressed her cheek.
"If only you were always this obedient, always by my side."
He leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Claire, is it so hard to love me?"
Miles got up, threw on a jacket, and walked out of the hospital room with his phone.
He made the overseas call after all.
A surprised voice came from the other end of the line.
"Warren?! You finally decided to contact me? Are you planning to switch from internal medicine to neurology?"
Miles’s voice was low. "Professor, there’s something I’d like to ask your help with."
"Go on."
"I have a friend who has a malignant brain tumor in a very difficult location. I was hoping you could perform the surgery for her."
"Oh?" Professor Olek’s puzzled voice came through. "What a coincidence. Four days ago, a young lady also had someone contact me on her behalf, asking me to perform a brain tumor surgery."
