Chapter 36: Chapter 36: It’s Uncle Who Wants to Cuddle with the Fairy Princess

The head table for Louis Warren’s birthday banquet was right in the center, offering an excellent view.

But it also meant being subjected to stares from all directions.

Claire Kendall turned slightly. "Dr. Warren, is it really okay for me to sit here? Maybe I should go to the back..."

She started to get up, but Miles Warren stopped her.

"Stay seated."

He pulled her back, his fingers closing around her wrist. The grip wasn’t tight. He added in a low voice,

"Bobby likes you. If you sit here, he’ll behave a little better."

Bobby shook his head and huffed. "Bobby is always a good boy. It’s obviously Uncle who wants to be close to the Fairy Princess, and you’re just using me as an excuse..."

Claire Kendall’s cheeks grew warm.

Miles Warren didn’t argue. He just raised his hand and gently flicked the little guy’s forehead. "You talk too much."

Louis Warren emerged from behind a screen.

The banquet hall fell silent in an instant.

He was dressed in a dark red Tang suit, his eyes sharp and commanding, radiating an aura of authority without any show of anger.

Louis Warren surveyed the room. His gaze paused for a moment when it passed over Claire Kendall, then he looked away and calmly took his seat.

Beside him, Victor Warren, the eldest son of the Warren family and Yvonne’s father, suddenly spoke up.

"Miles, today is Father’s birthday. The seats at the head table were already arranged. This person you’ve brought is..."

Victor Warren’s eyes landed on Claire Kendall, his gaze filled with scrutiny and displeasure.

’His own daughter, Yvonne, hadn’t even gotten a seat at the head table, yet some upstart girl who appeared out of nowhere is sitting here?’

"This young lady looks young, so it’s understandable if she doesn’t know the rules. But Miles, how could you not understand?"

The atmosphere at the table instantly froze.

Claire Kendall knew that this middle-aged man wasn’t targeting her, but was blatantly targeting Miles Warren.

And she had just become the pretext for him to make trouble.

"Mr. Warren, I was the one who overstepped. It has nothing to do with Miles Warren."

Just as she was about to get up and leave, Louis Warren spoke up to stop her.

"Alright, what’s all the fuss about?"

"I recognize this girl. I saw her at Yvonne’s engagement party. Since she’s a friend of Miles, there’s nothing wrong with her sitting here."

"It’s my birthday. All I want is to be happy. There’s no need to get hung up on formalities."

Victor Warren’s expression stiffened. "Father, you’re right. I understand."

Claire Kendall lowered her eyes slightly, her gaze secretly drifting over the people at the table.

’The Warren family is a battlefield in its own right.’

’They’re all probably plotting against each other for the family fortune. No wonder Miles moved out and didn’t want to come back.’

The birthday banquet officially began.

The people at the head table and the secondary tables were the center of attention.

The gifts they presented would be judged by all.

Victor Warren presented a treasured calligraphy and painting scroll from the Ming Dynasty.

The old patriarch nodded. "Good. Victor, you’re very thoughtful. You know I like collecting these things. It must have taken a lot of effort to find this piece."

"It was no trouble, Father. As long as you like it."

Yvonne Warren presented a jade pillow, and Jacob Sinclair a solid gold inkstone...

One by one, priceless objects were presented.

Miles Warren said, "I wish you good health. As for a gift, I won’t be giving one. My salary at the hospital isn’t high, and if I bought something, it would just be with your money anyway."

Strange looks were exchanged around the table.

Louis Warren was taken aback for a second, then broke into a hearty laugh.

"This personality of Miles... I really do like it..."

The guests below were in an uproar, murmuring amongst themselves. To not give a gift and still receive praise—it was clear how much Louis Warren favored his youngest son.

In the entire hall, only Claire Kendall had yet to present a gift.

At a secondary table, Yvonne Warren’s lips curled into a cold smirk as she waited for the show to begin.

’She’s sitting in a prime seat, yet she can’t even afford a decent gift. She’s just asking for humiliation.’

A smirk played on Yvonne’s lips. "Claire, where’s your gift?"

Miles Warren’s gaze was calm. Beneath the table, he gently brushed his fingers over Claire Kendall’s, as if to soothe her.

"It’s backstage." She stood up and wheeled out a rack.

On the upright, wheeled rack was a long, rectangular object covered with a layer of red cloth.

"Mr. Warren, this is the embroidery base for calligraphy you commissioned from Moonstone when we last met. I have completed it."

She reached out and pulled off the red cloth.

Instantly, the object on the rack seemed to cascade with flowing light, shimmering with different colors under the banquet hall’s lights.

Everyone was stunned.

Even the most luxurious high-fashion brands couldn’t emit such a beautiful radiance. It was so exquisitely beautiful that no one could tear their eyes away.

"Mr. Warren, this side of the silk brocade is the embroidery base prepared for your calligraphy."

In the next second, Claire Kendall flipped the brocade over.

"This side is to celebrate your birthday."

Embroidered on the back of the flowing brocade were four large words.

A Life Without End!

The black ink-like threads seemed to flow under the light.

The stitches had managed to capture the powerful strokes of wild cursive script, carrying an awe-inspiring momentum that could swallow mountains and rivers.

For a moment, even Louis Warren was left breathless with admiration.

"Excellent, excellent!" Louis Warren exclaimed several times. "Using brocade as paper and a needle as a brush... to think there’s such a brilliant person in the world!"

"Miles, ah, you didn’t need to give me a gift at all. This girl is the best gift!"

The old patriarch’s delight was practically spilling from his eyes.

"Butler, have someone take this away carefully."

Claire Kendall shook her head and said humbly, "Mr. Warren, my embroidery technique isn’t actually that amazing. The most important thing is the brocade itself."

"This is Flowing Light Brocade, passed down through generations in Wexall Village. If you like it, I can embroider other things for you."

"Wonderful!"

Claire Kendall looked a bit troubled. "It’s just that the raw materials for Flowing Light Brocade are in very short supply right now."

Louis Warren immediately responded, "Don’t you worry about raw materials. Young lady, if there’s one thing this old man doesn’t lack in his life, it’s money."

"I’ll put Cooper, the butler, in charge of it. Just tell him whatever you need."

At the secondary table, Jacob Sinclair’s fingers clenched into a fist.

He had schemed for so long, spending a fortune to cut off Claire Kendall’s supply of raw materials, only for her to so effortlessly find a new backer.

And this was a mountain that no one could move.

"Wow! The gift the Fairy Princess gave Grandpa is so special. Bobby likes it a lot too."

Bobby said earnestly, "May Grandpa’s fortune be as vast as the Eastern Sea, and his life as long as the Southern Mountains!"

Claire Kendall chuckled. "Good boy, Bobby. How about I use this to make you a set of clothes someday?"

"Then I’ll be able to charm the socks off of Lily at kindergarten, won’t I?"

Bobby said seriously, "Grandpa, you have to help the Fairy Princess get the raw materials quickly!"

"I’m still waiting to marry Lily at kindergarten!"

Everyone burst into laughter at his words.

Bobby’s soft little hand patted Claire Kendall.

"Fairy Princess, when you and Uncle get married, Lily and I will be your ring bearer and flower girl!"

Children say the darndest things. The crowd laughed again.

Claire Kendall’s ears burned. This was the second time Bobby had mentioned their relationship, yet Miles Warren had never corrected him.

Her strategy, it seemed, was very effective.

At the table, a sharp gaze fell upon Claire Kendall.

Bobby’s words made Victor Warren start to take this woman seriously.

’Although Father favors Miles,’ he thought, ’he’s never actually handed over the company for him to manage. That’s because he places exceptional importance on continuing the family line; he’s afraid the Warren Group will have no heir.’

’So as long as Miles shows no interest in women and has no children, Father will never finalize his position as heir.’

’But the appearance of this woman...’

His gaze darkened. He composed a message and sent it.
