Ten Lucky Draws: I Got Ten SSS-Rank Talents!
Chapter 116: Kaelen Vance
Exactly forty-eight days remained before the elimination cycle would reap its harvest across the sectors of Eternal Heaven.
The countdown hung in the sky like a guillotine, a constant, oppressive reminder of the system’s absolute cruelty. But the true terror had not blossomed from the changing of the sky or the shifting of the monster spawns. The true, paralyzing despair that had shattered the minds of millions had arrived exactly two days prior, on the fiftieth day, when the global interface had forced itself into the vision of every surviving soul.
Ding!
[Global Announcement]
[Elimination process set: 3/4 of players still at the Initiate rank will be eliminated.]
[Days remaining: 50]
[Players above Initiate Rank: 15]
[Total remaining players: 32,894,322]
That single, floating text had completely broken the collective sanity of the player base. The announcement shook everyone to their absolute core.
The experience required to level up in this reality was not linear. It was based on a violently steep power curve. Moving from Level 10 to Level 11 required effort, but moving from Level 30 to Level 31 required the eradication of entire monster ecosystems. Every single day, it felt as if the system had been explicitly programmed to kill anyone unlucky enough to not start with a broken, high-tier talent.
For the nearly thirty-three million players still trapped in the Initiate rank—Levels 1 through 29—the math was an execution sentence. Only fifteen players in the entire world had managed to cross the threshold into the Adept rank. Fifteen out of nearly thirty-three million. And when the timer hit zero, seventy-five percent of everyone left behind in the Initiate bracket would simply be deleted from existence.
Panic had consumed the lower sectors. Guilds turned on each other. Alliances dissolved into bloodbaths as desperate players slaughtered their own friends for fractional experience gains, desperately trying to claw their way past Level 29 before the sky fell.
But deep within the ash-choked canyons of Sector 12, far away from the chaos of the beginner zones, one of those fifteen elites was entirely unconcerned with the impending purge.
The air in the ruined, subterranean temple was stagnant, smelling of old blood and pulverized stone.
The heavy silence of the instance was violently shattered by the sound of tearing fabric. It wasn’t cloth being ripped; it was the physical fabric of space itself. A jagged, bleeding vertical tear materialized in the center of the temple’s grand courtyard, leaking a profound, starry darkness.
Stepping out of the spatial void was a nightmare of a beast. It was a Void Horse, a massive, muscular destrier forged entirely from compressed shadows and starlight, its hooves leaving burning hoofprints of cold fire against the ancient stone floor. It possessed no eyes, only a smooth, armored skull that radiated an aura of pure dimensional dread.
Sitting atop the nightmare was Kaelen Vance.
The Guild Master of the Crimson Dawn no longer wore the basic deep-red plate armor that had defined his reign in the Eastern Checkpoint. His armor had evolved, gotten from the drop of high-tier elites he had slaughtered across the sector. The crimson metal now pulsed with a terrifying, suffocating heat, adorned with jagged black iron spikes and draped in a heavy velvet cape that seemed to drink the ambient light.
His face remained sharp, aristocratic, and completely devoid of empathy. His dark eyes burned with an intense, calculated fury that had not extinguished since the day his economic empire had been casually destroyed by an anonymous player.
Riding behind him, slipping out of the spatial tear before it violently snapped shut, were two individuals. They did not ride Void Horses. They stumbled onto the stone floor, gasping for breath, their faces pale and slick with terrified sweat.
Silas, a Level 33 Rogue, dropped to one knee, clutching his chest as his system struggled to process the dimensional whiplash of teleportation. Beside him, Sienna, a Level 30 Support Mage, leaned heavily on her wooden staff, her hands trembling violently.
They were the absolute elite of the Crimson Dawn Guild. Back in Sector 4, they were revered as untouchable veterans, powerful enough to command respect wherever they went. But here, in Sector 12, standing in the shadow of Kaelen Vance, they were little more than expendable livestock, desperately clinging to him for survival.
The arrangement was simple. Serve Kaelen, and he would reward them with exceptional drops obtained from slaying high-tier monsters. Those resources, in turn, would help them hunt stronger monsters, accumulate experience, and climb the levels. It was a mutually beneficial cycle, and one that had allowed both of them to reach the Adept Rank and survive the impending elimination.
Still, their progress wasn’t solely thanks to Kaelen.
Both Silas and Sienna possessed formidable Role Talents, abilities that had played a crucial part in their advancement. Following Kaelen had merely amplified their effectiveness, allowing them to push their talents beyond what they could have achieved alone. His support had strengthened their foundations, but it hadn’t replaced the power they already possessed.
"Stand up," Kaelen commanded.
He didn’t raise his voice. He didn’t need to. The sheer, overwhelming gravitational weight of his presence pressed down on them, demanding absolute obedience.
Silas and Sienna scrambled to their feet, forcing their exhausted muscles to comply, terrified that any display of weakness would result in Kaelen leaving them behind in an Adept-tier zone.
"Guild Master," Silas gasped, pulling a pair of curved daggers from his belt, his eyes darting frantically around the massive, ruined pillars of the temple. "The spatial tear... it worked. The Void Horse allowed us to manifest directly within the heart of this place."
"Of course it worked," Kaelen replied coldly, smoothly dismounting the shadow-steed. The Void Horse bowed its heavy head submissively before dissolving into black mist, retreating into Kaelen’s shadow. "I broke the beast’s will, and now space bends to accommodate my transit."
Kaelen turned his gaze toward the far end of the ruined courtyard. Massive, crumbling stone steps led up to a blood-stained altar.
"We are here for the instance boss," Kaelen stated, drawing a massive, crimson-bladed halberd from his inventory. The weapon thrummed with a violent, arterial rhythm. "This tracker indicates a high-density mana signature residing within these ruins. I require the experience points for my continuous leveling. You two will secure the flanks and ensure no lesser mobs interrupt my execution."
"Yes, Guild Master," Sienna whispered, her knuckles white as she gripped her staff, already beginning to channel a series of defensive buffs.
Before the magic could fully form, the ground beneath their feet violently shuddered.
The massive stone altar at the top of the steps exploded outward in a shower of ancient masonry. Pulling itself from the rubble was a monstrosity of twisted flesh and jagged obsidian. It was a Blood-Forged Chimera—a grotesque amalgamation of a dire lion, a scaled serpent, and a massive, leathery bat, all bound together by pulsing veins of raw, necrotic magic.
[Instance Boss Detected: Blood-Forged Chimera]
[Level: 52]
[Rank: Elite Sovereign]
Silas took a step back, the blood completely draining from his face. "Level 52... Guild Master, it’s six levels higher than you! Its base stats will severely out-scale our combined output—"
"Silence your cowardly tongue, Silas," Kaelen snapped, not taking a single step backward. He looked up at the towering, roaring beast with an expression of profound, arrogant disgust.
The Chimera lunged, clearing the fifty-foot gap from the altar to the courtyard floor in a single, devastating bound, its massive obsidian claws extended to crush the intruders into the stone.
"You dare jump in the presence of an Emperor?" Kaelen sneered.
Kaelen didn’t raise his halberd to block. He simply slammed the butt of the weapon violently against the stone floor and activated his SS-Rank talent.
"Emperor’s Domain."
