The study was just as magnificent, and Kai was at the end of it, nose deep in work.

"Hello," I muttered once I’d recovered from my shock.

"Yo, sweet peach." Kai blinked up at me. A visible shock lingered for a split second. He must not have expected to see me.

It prompted me to say, "I asked Butler Hector. He guided me here."

"Truly, I don’t mind," he replied, wearing that ghost of a smile again.

He really knew what he was doing, squinting his eyes and giving himself the effect of a nasty, mischievous man.

A lot of floor to ceiling windows stretched across the tall space, the ceiling higher than anything I’d ever seen, and the room was divided into two sections. The first was where Kai worked. Exquisite, by the way.

The second section was what gripped my attention. A huge telescope was placed close to one of the windows, directed toward the stars. Moonbeams from the night blurred into the room, blending with the warm LED lights designed into the walls and the corner lights spread across the space.

"How does one even play this?" I asked, turning to see that Kai had left his work and was strolling toward me. He followed my gaze to the life-sized chessboard with equally life-sized pieces.

"You simply use those." He pointed, and when he reached me, he let me see the remote. Pressing down a button, the first pawn moved.

"That’s sick." My brows raised, my jaw practically landing on the floor for the thousandth time.

"I know, right?" Kai laughed.

Another thing caught my sight. A realistic three-dimensional model of the solar system.

"I might even call this place something more than a study. Some sci-fi tech room," I muttered under my breath.

"Welcome to my world," Kai hushed as he came to wrap his arms around me from behind. His chest pressed against my back as he cooed into the crook of my neck, making me tilt my face for his pleasure.

"How did you even attain all of these? Who are you, Alpha Kai?" Releasing myself from him, I turned to face him.

He looked like a completely different man from the Kai I’d known all this time. During all those years he lived with us, he had been a shadow of this version of himself. Perhaps even nothing more than an empty shell. No one could have imagined he was gifted with eyes capable of seeing the world’s beauty and even creating more beauty for it.

For all I knew, perhaps he was the one who made those mural paintings too.

"I’m a man living to satisfy his father’s dream."

That hurt me, but I could only imagine how much deeper the wound was for him.

Nearing him, I brushed his hair. "I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine what it means to carry such responsibilities. How could they not want you to live?"

To me, having to hide all these passions could only destroy him from within. How could they want him to pursue nothing but court matters? If I were the Alpha King who had to sit through endless chatter from councilmen and commanders carrying stacks of reports, I’d probably lose my mind and say fuck it all.

"It is the path I’m meant to walk. The blood in my veins made sure of that," he replied, still maintaining that warm glint in his eyes. Almost bewitched by them once again, I turned to explore more of the room.

I headed back to the first division where a large curved desk sat with paperwork sprawled everywhere.

"You need to review all of this too?"

"I’ve reviewed all of them already," he replied.

Wait, at this point, I was genuinely grateful that I wasn’t of royal blood in any way. My suffering as an Omega was surely better than a life of endless workloads. This was one of the many reasons you’d never catch me attending royal events. An opposition to Leo’s driven passion.

"Uh, what are they about?"

"Leo’s causing trouble. He’s made reports to the councilmen and to my father. The councilmen and my father are demanding I show myself and clear my name of his claims."

"What claims?" I paused Kai mid-sentence.

He cleared his throat. "Infidelity."

I swallowed a large lump in my throat. "Did he mention with whom?"

"I don’t think so, or they’d have mentioned you in their reports," Kai responded, seemingly careful with the way he chose his words.

"Would you and I be in trouble, assuming he did?"

"I wouldn’t think that."

"Why not? If people get a whiff of this, or the throne decides to seek me out, I’d be as easy to find as an open book is to read."

"That’s why I suggested this getaway, sweet peach." Kai stepped in and closed the space between us. His frame pinned mine, sweeping my legs off the black marble floor before sitting me upon the wooden desk.

"Then it means reality awaits us when this is finally over." My voice became smaller than before, my heart hammering while more blood pressured through my veins. It suddenly felt hotter than I remembered.

Kai brightened his smile as he wiped a bead of sweat from my forehead. "If this will make you feel better, I’m in a mess of my own too."

"What mess?" My curiosity perked.

"MoonBlade has declared war on SilverFang. Claiming invasion of their land and destruction of their infrastructure. They’re most likely targeting my head."

That only made my heart sink even further. "Shit... shit, this is all because of me. Oh, Moon Goddess."

"Shush." Kai planted a kiss on my lips, but my disinterest made him continue. "You must understand this was never going to be easy. When you want something, you must know that others want that same thing too. But for you to successfully claim what you want, you must fight for it."

Silence stretched through the air for a second.

"Your fight for me led to a declaration of war on the entire society of SilverFang, and my fight for you is about to tarnish my image if Leo furthers his rumors."

"Then we fight this one battle at a time, don’t we?" Kai stated, staring directly into my eyes. That storm within them hypnotized me again, pulling me beneath their wonders, and I nodded my head.

"If you’ll stay by my side."

"That’s all I’ve ever wanted," he replied, brightening his smile until his canines revealed themselves.

As I stared at Kai’s chest, feeling the muscles constrict beneath his shirt, I gulped before asking the question.

"Would you ever question what’s changed in me?" I asked the big question neither of us ever spoke.

Kai’s eyes met mine, and he knew better than to ignore the truth this time.

"As I said, sweet peach, one thing at a time," he said, and I nodded.

The heat from Kai’s body warmed mine as I unbuttoned his shirt. I pushed him down to sit on the black leather chair, and he followed my direction without resistance.

Then, sitting atop him, our eyes remained locked in a stare filled with the weight of what was about to happen.

My hands moved behind him, beginning to unbuckle his belt. Once it was undone, I slipped down his zipper. His cock had already begun to harden, and I stroked it slowly. Kai’s eyes remained fixed on mine, his lips slightly parting.

Having produced a slick of my own, my muscles flexed as I lowered myself onto his length, taking him in. My mouth widened in a long drawn bath of air while my eyes slowly widened alongside it.

Once he settled inside me, I began to roll my waist.

The rest of the night carried our moans as we edged toward climax.
