Chapter 64: Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Almost every phenotypic characteristic of Kai was bluey, except those hefty muscles of his. Damn their fineness. Even half-healed, he still looked like something the room had been built around.

The smell of herbs was thick in the air as I took a whiff. It’s quite comical that while the outside world was modern, when it came to the palace, they’d rather resort to traditional ways of healing.

Something about that remained fascinating to me. Bowls on the side table. Crushed leaves. Steam that refused to leave the corners of the room.

I climbed onto the bed and locked my arms around Kai’s neck. My thighs locked around his legs, helping him prop his head against the headboard, careful in my attempt. He let me move him. That alone made my chest tight.

Once he was settled, I let our foreheads meet, and I sniffed. "I missed you so much, my ass King."

"As soon as I woke up, I came to look for you, sweet peach," he commented.

Without opening my eyes, I imagined the familiar smirk curling up his lips. I did not need to see it. I already knew the shape.

"I heard about your training with Clawface. I mean, you’ve always been a tiger, but in the ways of war?"

He distanced our faces, allowing me to catch the flicker of amber in his eyes. His wolf must still have been around, just beneath his skin. The gold came and went like a thought he had not put away.

Kai’s warmth seeped into my skin, and I took off my shirt. His breathing shifted as he took in my body, and I bit down on my lip. The air between us changed. It always did when we stopped pretending we were only talking.

"I was scared when you wouldn’t wake up, no matter how many spells I cast. My only assurance was the doctor’s claims. It made me feel useless, and as though that wasn’t enough, I lost to Clawface repeatedly," I said. With each sentence, I gradually unbuttoned Kai’s shirt. Buttons gave way one by one. His chest rose under my fingers.

All the while, he kept his eyes on me, studying me, trying to decipher the emotions behind my composure.

I continued, the words spilling out of me. "Maybe I’m not exactly as powerful as I think I am. I can’t even connect to the source of my power."

Kai grabbed my hand just as I was about to touch the zipper of his pants.

"What’s wrong?"

"I just want you right now."

That’s all I said before Kai flipped me around. My back rested against the bed as he maintained his weight with his hands. The mattress accepted both of us. His shadow covered me first, then his mouth.

His firm hands helped pin my legs in the air before he slid down to my cock. Throbbing from heat, his tongue dropped saliva along my length until my back arched and more moans slipped out of my dry mouth as I gasped for air.

"Oh, yes... yes..."

"I missed tasting you, baby," he muttered as he sniffed the air around my hole. My slick was no doubt dripping. I didn’t want to feel it slide down my thighs to be certain. I already knew it was there. I could smell myself on the sheets.

Kai ate me out, rimming my hole until my toes curled and my fingers dug into the bedsheets. My stomach curled pleasantly, slowly reaching climax, and then he came back to kiss me. The taste of me was still on his mouth. I took it anyway.

As if stealing my breath wasn’t enough, he pinched my nipples and his lips grazed my ears. The action sent shivers down my spine. Heat ran the length of me and did not stop at the end.

"I wanna fuck you so good the babies multiply inside you."

The bass of his tone sent me over the edge.

Butterflies danced in my stomach, my hole clenching to be stretched by his cock. And just as he knew what I needed most, he filled me up.

My eyes popped open as my mouth gaped, moans tearing through my throat. I whispered words even I couldn’t make sense of. One hand pushed against the headboard while the other dug into Kai’s back. Muscle moved under my nails. He did not tell me to stop.

He fucked me gently, yet slammed right before reaching my g-spot. His rhythm was the perfect motion to make me spurt cum all over my stomach. Kai’s pace quickened as he jolted above me, his muscles flexing right before he knotted me.

Our bond locked us in place as he filled me entirely with cum. When his cock slipped out of me, still as hard as a plank, his cum followed through. The room held the sound of us for a second longer than it needed to.

"Do you want to go and clean up?" he questioned. The happiness in his eyes needed no magnifying glass to be seen. It was so evident. "Or do you want us to fuck again? It can’t affect the babies, yea?"

I scoffed, playful in my tone. "If you don’t want me to kick you in the balls, you’d better get off me."

I pushed him to the side, where his weight pressed into the bed next to me. A few seconds later, my view of the ceiling was replaced by Kai’s intoxicating eyes. Blue. Tired. Alive.

"When you were... away, you know I lost it completely. Everything meant nothing. This bond between us, it’s like..."

"Life is meaningless when you’re not with me and when I am not with you."

I completed the words for him. It took him a second before he nodded. The nod was small. It was enough.

"Yet it feels as though there are forces planning to keep us apart. Do you still think we don’t deserve each other?" His question settled heavily inside me, but when I glanced away, my thoughts spiraled. Then I focused back on Kai. The herbs. The sheets. His mouth still wet from me.

"No. Not anymore, my ass King. I believe we are meant to be."

I fiddled with my fingers right before I spilled the next sentence. "I did something while you were asleep. I wrote a letter to MoonBlade."

Just a second ago, Kai had looked almost too eager to hear my news, but the feeling deflated at the actuality of it. His body did not leave mine. His ease did.

"For what reason?"

"I plan to visit MoonBlade and create an alliance."

"For what reason?" he asked again, this time with deeper meaning. I was careful in my response, thinking deeply. The words had to come out in the right order or they would sound like I was leaving him.

"I’m not sure, but I believe that just as MoonBlade is connected to the birth of my powers, it may also be connected to the death of my parents. I need these answers to find the peace I seek. I’m a curious soul, and I deserve that much from fate."

I expected rejection. Rejection from Kai.

Kai had already spoken against it. He was the type who would never agree to me leaving his side.

The furrowing of his brows left an unmistakable wrinkle on his forehead, one not even the fallen strands of hair could hide.

The room still smelled of our heat and rut essence, mixed with the scent of my slick and his cum.

Kai’s eyes carried a wave of scarlet. Perhaps he was communicating with his wolf through that glow. The red sat there and then settled.

Then, when he spoke, my heart tightened.

Would he truly reject this mission of mine?

"I, too, have been having similar thoughts. My life has revolved around the throne. At least, that’s all I knew until I met you. Then you added to the list, deepening my story. But when I was lost in my wolf, I realized there was much I hadn’t settled. So much that my story could become, yet I never summoned the courage."

For a while longer, the meaning behind Kai’s words seemed to confuse me more than clarify anything. So I simply listened. His voice was low. The room made space for it.

"I want to redeem SilverFang. This Pack has so much to offer, so much beauty to bring into the world instead of the fear it has spread and the anguish it has caused in the past. I can be more than just another Alpha King."

"Like being my mate?"

"Like being your mate," he agreed and placed a kiss on my forehead. The kiss stayed there after his mouth left.

I couldn’t fathom the happiness in my heart at Kai’s agreement and the fact that he saw things from my perspective. Somehow, it made me realize how much not only I had changed after these recent happenings, but Kai had grown as well.

It revealed to me the likeness we shared as two soulmates with one heart and mind.

"Cover yourself..." Kai uttered out of the blue as his attention shifted toward the bedroom door.

In the distance, a knock landed against the entrance, followed by heavy footsteps.

Marcellan appeared at the threshold, keeping his gaze lowered before reporting.

"Alex, there’s a letter for you."

"A letter?"

One of my brows rose, my mind having drifted away from the matter of MoonBlade until Marcellan elaborated.

"MoonBlade has sent their response... you need to read it."

The moment he said those words, my heart thundered behind my sternum.

I could only imagine.

A rejection?

Or an acceptance of my request?
