Chapter 91: Chapter 90
Chapter 91
Kai wasn’t in the bed with me when I woke up the next morning, so I went on with completing my morning routine. Even when I finished, my nostrils still couldn’t catch his scent.
His scent had completely faded, a clear sign that he had left no less than an hour ago.
The maids came to clean the room, and when they slid the curtains open, the morning sun poured in, gleaming across every solid object in the room.
I made my way out, and through the directions given to me by one of the doormen, I ended up in a greenhouse.
It was a small greenhouse beside a swimming pool. To the left was the greenhouse, the crops soaking in the sunlight, and to the right was a chatter formed by Kai, Marcellan, and Clawface.
The swimming pool sat in the middle, its top covered.
"Damn, you bagged a beauty. Look at that baddie," Marcellan commented first. His comical tone was a drastic opposite of how he had been the day before.
I sincerely did not wish to see such a Marcellan again.
Clawface’s stoicness was befitting of his nature. But not Marcellan. He had taken me by surprise.
"And he’s mine," Kai said.
My gaze dropped to my nails as I lowered my face. They were perfectly trimmed, and I hadn’t even had the time to take care of myself properly in a while, courtesy of everything that had been happening.
I was in silk material. The dress flowed graciously down my frame, the grey texture accentuating my warm beige skin, and the sun made it glisten as if it were gold.
"Fuck you, Marcellan." I said when I got close.
"Yeah, I withdraw from wooing him. He’s got a bad mouth."
"Baddies are subjects of words. Fluency and imperfect perfection is what forges us," I said, tilting my face.
I sat on Kai’s thighs when I reached the table and leaned forward for a kiss.
"Did you guys fuck overnight?" Marcellan darted his eyes from Kai to me, then to Clawface. "Alex looks like this when he’s been fucked. Remember the time I came during your honeymoon..."
"For heaven’s sake, Marcellan. You don’t always need to talk," I snapped. My tone failed to sound stern, but I feared even that would not have stirred him.
"I won’t apologize for being observ—"
Kai shoved a donut into his mouth, forcing him to mumble the rest of his sentence.
A seat had been left for me, and I occupied it.
"We were just starting. You were sleeping, so I didn’t want to disturb you," Kai said. I smiled at him, our feet brushing lightly beneath the table before I focused on the food.
Quite famished, I picked the potatoes first and bit into the sauce they had been boiled in.
"Ooh..." I moaned under my breath.
The warmth settled on my tongue, turning it even more savoury.
"You’ll love the fish even more," Kai said and pushed another plate toward me. "Try it."
From my peripheral vision, I caught Marcellan making the most ridiculous expression ever.
"This is why you’re single," I said, the words bursting out in laughter before I even knew it.
Marcellan simply rolled his eyes. "I’ve got Sophia." He murmured.
When the space went quiet, I said, "So, what were you guys discussing before my arrival?"
"The demise of our enemies," Clawface answered.
Of course, that was expected. This was Clawface’s forte.
"So, tell me about it. How are we demising our enemies?" I emphasized the word.
"Leo is to be taken down. We will trace him, and Nathan must be cut off from the power he wields."
"But simple weapons hold no advantage against him?" I looked at each figure around the table.
"We are making a plan for that. You don’t need to stress yourself."
"A plan? Sounds like I’m the only one who doesn’t know about this plan. When was it drafted? Just this morning?"
"Don’t worry. I remember the promise we both made. Not to endanger either of our lives for any reason. Not for any plot or whatever. I intend to maintain that, assuredly."
"I’m asking about the plan. Why am I omitted from it?"
Kai sighed. I realized my voice had begun to rise, so I calmed myself by taking a sip of my drink.
"I’m taking you to the House of Michaelson."
"Your family house?" I questioned.
The others avoided my gaze, and that confirmed my suspicion that this decision had been made that morning without me. They knew I would react exactly this way, especially Marcellan, judging by how aware he was of how I had been the first time Kai left me.
"You were hurt the last time we were separated. That was recent. Just yesterday!" I raised my voice.
Kai slammed his hand on the table. "Please, Alex. Think about this. I’m only trying to fulfill your wish. You said you never wanted to use your power again, so I’m looking for a way to defeat Nathan and Leo without it. It’s only a matter of time before Nathan comes for us. Do you want to destroy things again?"
"What..." The words caught in my throat. "So you really think I am a Death-bringer Aetherblood?"
"You called yourself that last night, and I was the one who argued against it. Don’t twist my words against me."
Maybe he was right, and I was being manipulative. Or maybe he was wrong, and he was hiding behind his statement.
Either way, I was pissed off as fuck. And he’s making me hate that I told him the truth.
"I’m not going to your family house. I don’t know anyone there, and this is my home. I am Luna of SilverFang Pack, and I will remain here." I slammed the edge of the table.
I stood up, my appetite completely gone.
"Clawface will help you pack your bags. You will leave at first light tomorrow."
Wait, tomorrow morning? Early morning...
"No..." I retorted.
"It’s not a request, Alex," Kai said.
I looked at Clawface and Marcellan, but of course, in front of Kai, they said nothing.
Well, maybe coward was too harsh, but I was too angry to care.
I almost walked away when I turned back and grabbed an apple. I did not meet Kai’s eyes as I left.
A part of me expected him to follow me and apologize, to reason with me differently, but he remained seated even as I turned the corner and the pillar blocked them from view.
My chest tightened as I stormed anywhere else but our room, knowing anything concerning Kai would only make me angrier.
And if he was planning to take down Nathan alone, there was no way he expected me to believe he wasn’t risking his life. And if he had his plans, then I would have mine too.
