The Anomaly Beyond The System
Chapter 276: Annoying Master
"M-Master Lucian...?"
"Hm?"
Lucian glanced towards Kanna, who was looking at him a little strangely.
"Shouldn’t you... go through the portal...? That’s the shortest route..." she muttered in a flat voice, a hint of ridiculousness hidden beneath her tone.
"That will be boring."
"There’s no fun in that!"
Both Lucian and Selthia spoke at the exact same time, and hearing their words—
"..."
Kanna was left speechless.
Ignoring her, Selthia turned towards Lucian.
"But Master Lucian, do you know how to ride a bike?" she asked while following him, her sparkling grey eyes looking at the multiple bikes, though there were a few bizarre ones covered in strange tattoos and ridiculous designs that made her wrinkle her nose, clearly not liking those.
"Don’t you know how to ride one?"
"No, of course not! Why would I learn to drive if I can just go anywhere through a portal?"
Lucian looked at her strangely.
If she didn’t know... then why was she so excited about going on one?
He had almost thought that she too wanted to ride one of them.
"Wait, don’t tell me even you don’t know?!"
Selthia suddenly paused, her expression turning speechless and discouraged.
Lucian’s lips twitched.
"I know how to drive a bike... I just learned it yesterday from their memories."
The last part came out quietly.
"What...?"
"Nothing. Don’t worry, I know how to ride."
Selthia felt something wrong and didn’t feel very reassured for some reason.
"Just remember that we arrive there on time. Otherwise, the show might already be over before we even arrive."
Selthia nodded with a bright smile.
Lucian wasn’t in too much of a hurry.
Why?
Wasn’t he worried about Vivienne?
It wasn’t about that.
Lucian knew that woman.
She might act too arrogantly and might piss him off every now and then, but she was strong, ridiculously strong.
Vivienne was an S-Rank vampire, and also the daughter of Valentina, so even if she had gone there alone, Lucian was fairly sure that she would do just fine.
And in the first place—
He wasn’t going there to help her, nor was he planning to interfere with the plan created by the Sinclairs and the Church.
He was simply going there to observe, perhaps even get a chance to fight someone strong—someone who might be stronger than him, which might help him get stronger in return.
Besides, his mind wasn’t exactly in the best state right now, especially with the lingering memories from yesterday...
Memories of the remaining dead human corpses whom he had killed previously.
Yes, he had devoured them as well.
’Thinking back about it, it might’ve been a very, very bad decision.’
Thankfully, his mother hadn’t been able to notice any major changes in his behaviour, though he could see himself getting much more rash, more reckless and impulsive.
Though leaving that aside... he had also gotten a few real-life skills.
One of them happened to be—riding a motorcycle.
Yeah, he hadn’t known how to drive one previously, since he had only learned to drive a car.
And apparently, one of their memories was of snatching people’s purses while driving a bike—yeah, not such a cool memory... but useful... so he couldn’t complain much.
As for how well he’ll drive himself... that’ll be seen now.
"This is perfect," Lucian muttered, his eyes lighting up as he slowly ran his hand over the vehicle.
It was a sleek black sports bike, its entire body painted in a deep, polished black that gave it a clean and elegant appearance.
Despite its seemingly aggressive design, there was something refined about it, and under the light, its polished surface reflected a faint shine, making the black colour stand out even more.
’This is fucking cool!’
His excitement literally screamed inside his mind, seeing one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen.
"It looks exactly like something you would choose, Master Lucian," Selthia commented from the side with a faint smile, liking the choice too.
Unfortunately... someone else didn’t.
"B-B-Boss..."
Shawn’s trembling voice abruptly came from behind them.
"Do you have to t-take that...?"
That was his favourite out of the entire collection, so he couldn’t help but feel the urge to stop Lucian, though he knew that was deadly.
"Y-You can take a-any—"
"Did I ask you?" Lucian didn’t even glance at him, but his words instantly made Shawn go silent.
His palms began sweating as he pressed his quivering lips together and lowered his head, understanding what would happen if he said anything else.
"Who is he?" Selthia asked silently.
"No one you need to be concerned about."
Hearing his words, the maid shrugged as well.
"So let’s go!"
She suddenly raised her fist.
"To save the Duchess’s daughter on this Dark Beast!"
Lucian chuckled at the name, and though he wanted to tell her about etiquette—especially about referring to Vivienne so casually—he didn’t mind her casualness.
Taking the keys to the vehicle from the grumbling big guy, who could do nothing aside from silently cursing Lucian, he handed the keys to him.
"Master Lucian..."
Kanna’s voice silently made both of them pause.
"What should I do...?"
Her dark-black eyes stared into his with unnatural intensity, almost as if asking him if she could accompany him as well.
But—
"You stay here."
Kanna’s expression stilled.
"My mother will be alone. Accompany her and make sure nothing happens to her. You can think of it as a very small vacation from the troublesome me."
Lucian said with a soft, gentle smile and an amused wink.
"...As you wish."
Kanna lowered her head slightly, giving him a small bow.
"...?"
Selthia looked between the two before turning towards the black-haired maid.
She couldn’t help but feel something different on her face.
Was that... annoyance...?
’Meh, she’s a robot. She doesn’t feel emotions.’
She immediately dismissed the thought.
"Let’s go! My first ride...!"
She raised both hands in the air, acting like a child who had finally been allowed to visit a festival after waiting for years.
The two of them soon took the motorcycle outside.
Lucian sat in the front while Selthia climbed onto the back, momentarily hesitating before wrapping her arms around his waist.
Placing his hand on the handlebars, he clicked the gear, and after a few loud wrooms from the engine...
He released the clutch before—
"Wroom... WROOMM...!!"
The bike shot forward, and within seconds, it disappeared down the road.
Leaving only the black-haired maid behind, who remained completely still for a long moment.
Her long black hair swayed gently in the night wind.
Kanna blankly stared at the road Lucian had gone through, and after several long minutes...
She slowly turned around.
"Annoying Master..."
Her voice quietly echoed through the night before her body vanished into the shadows.
