Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Injured

After finishing their looting, the group headed down to the first floor. Through the doors, they could faintly see several Fireballs being hurled down from the roof. They figured the commotion outside must have attracted quite a few zombies, especially since no living humans had set foot in here for a long time.

Shane Shaw broke open all the storefronts that hadn’t been raided yet. They were filled with clothing, cosmetics, and jewelry. Luna Dawson wasn’t picky at all; she gathered everything into her space. Once they were done, the group walked out the mall’s main entrance together.

Rollo and Tina dashed out first, shifting into their evolution beast forms. With a quick running start, Tina kicked off a nearby tree and leaped gracefully onto the roof.

The rest of the group rode on Rollo’s back as he flew up. The moment they landed, they shot an "OK" gesture to the three people already on the roof.

While in the air, they had already noticed the pile of zombie corpses stacked around the perimeter. It looked like there were nearly a hundred of them.

Seeing his sister return, Miles Dawson asked while continuing to shoot, "Sis! How was it? Did you get a lot of stuff?"

Luna laughed. "I cleared out all the supplies on the fifth floor. It’s more than enough to feed you for a lifetime."

Nancy Sullivan looked at her brother with smiling eyes. "The haul we got this time will easily last us a year or two." Her tone was filled with pure joy.

Aaron Palmer immediately sidled up to Nancy, pointing at the zombie corpses on the ground like he was presenting a prized treasure. "Nancy, Nancy, look at how awesome I am! I killed so many of them, way more than Miles did!" He was strutting around like a peacock displaying its feathers, practically wagging his invisible tail.

In a great mood, Nancy’s eyes crinkled in a smile as she praised him. "Yeah! You’re amazing. Brother Aaron is the best."

With just that one sentence, Aaron was instantly pumped full of adrenaline. "Watch me wipe them out!" he roared. He took a deep breath, pushing his fire superpower to its absolute limit, and unleashed a frenzied barrage of attacks.

Miles got goosebumps all over watching him and rolled his eyes. "I give up. He’s totally hopeless."

Evan Olson stood to the side, watching this noisy bunch. He rubbed his temples in exasperation, looking exactly like a tired parent chaperoning a group of kindergartners. He frowned, expressing his concern. "Kevin Keane and the others have been on the first basement level for a long time. Should I go down and check on them? After all, they’re up against a Fourth Rank."

Luna waved her hand dismissively. "No need. I smelled something burning when we were on the first floor earlier, and I felt vibrations and heard explosions. They’re probably still fighting. If they really need help, they’ll call us."

The group chatted as they continued their slaughter. Shane stood at the edge of the roof, firing his silenced submachine gun wildly. He was competing with Miles and Aaron to see who could rack up the highest kill count; the three of them were locked in a fiercely competitive rivalry.

Right at that moment, Little Sweet Potato suddenly carried Kevin and the other two back up, landing steadily on the roof.

Everyone looked over and saw that all three of them were battered and bruised. The most conspicuous was Blake Blue. Little Sweet Potato’s pale purple vines were wrapped around his waist and buttocks, tangled up with his torn clothes in a look that was both pathetic and bizarre.

All eyes instinctively zeroed in on his lower back. Blake’s cheeks instantly flushed crimson. He was so mortified he wished the ground would swallow him whole. "Luna, quick, give me a winter suit! It’s an emergency!"

Lynn Shelby was laughing so hard he couldn’t stand up straight, ruthlessly rubbing salt in the wound. "Hahaha! The handsome Mr. Blue, if your pants slide down any further, we’re going to see your bare butt cheeks! Do you want me to help you pull them up?"

Rhonda Dawson couldn’t help but laugh out loud before quickly stifling it. "Are you guys okay?" she asked with concern. "Are your injuries serious?"

Little Sweet Potato decided to join the fun. Retracting its vines, it yelled in a crisp voice, "He has a huge patch of injuries right above his butt!"

"What?!" The crowd’s expressions immediately turned serious as they crowded around him. "Quick, turn around and let us see!"

Blake’s ears burned red with embarrassment. He hurriedly hid behind Kevin, waving his hands frantically. "No, no, no! Wendy, heal us first. I’ll change clothes after the treatment, I’m begging you guys!"

Luna was dying of laughter. With a wave of her hand, she brought out the villa and some clean clothes from her space. "Alright, alright, let’s head back to your rooms first."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Blake grabbed the back hem of his shirt in a death grip with one hand. With his other hand, he and Lynn supported Kevin from both sides, shuffling their way toward the villa.

The crowd looked at Kevin. He only had a few burn holes on the back of his shirt, and all his limbs were intact. They thought he had gotten off the easiest, so why did he need to be supported?

Suddenly, Aaron let out a howl. "Brother Finn! What happened to your eyes?!"

Kevin immediately played along, groaning in pain. His eyes were bloodshot, and tears were streaming down his face, making him look absolutely miserable.

"My eyes... am I going to go blind, little boss? This is a workplace injury, you have to take care of me..."

Luna felt a surge of anxiety mixed with a tinge of guilt, realizing she had been too focused on collecting supplies. "Your eyes?! I will, I will take care of you!"

Lynn let go of Kevin’s arm, tugged at Blake, and pushed Kevin toward Luna.

Kevin’s vision was blurry, but he could faintly see Luna rushing toward him, her steps hurried and anxious. Her heart was in her throat. She felt like an employee who had just signed a massive contract and was happily getting ready to clock out, only to find the company’s top salesperson collapsing at their desk—she was both worried and helpless.

Helping Kevin to a chair in the bedroom, Luna carefully rinsed his eyes with spirit spring water. She used a small, warm towel to gently wipe away the droplets on his face, terrified of hurting him and causing secondary damage.

"Sis! Sis, get in here, quick!" Luna shouted toward the door, her brows furrowing unconsciously. Superficial flesh wounds were one thing, but eyes were of the utmost importance.

Right on cue, Rhonda pushed the door open and walked in. She placed her hands over Kevin’s eyes, and a gentle Healing Ability slowly flowed out.

In just a few minutes, the burning sensation and the tearing in Kevin’s eyes completely vanished, and his vision became crystal clear again.

The heavy weight in Luna’s chest finally lifted. She leaned in slightly, wanting to take a closer look to make sure his eyes were truly alright. Her delicate face was less than ten centimeters from his. Her warm breath, carrying the sweet, refreshing scent of the spirit spring water, brushed against his face. Kevin’s heart violently skipped a beat. His cheeks flushed crimson in an instant, and even the tips of his ears burned hot.

Luna didn’t notice his strange reaction at all. She only wondered why Kevin had started acting weird the moment her sister left. She vaguely felt the air around them grow warmer. Subconsciously, she reached out, feeling his cheeks and forehead.

"You’re burning up!" Luna’s voice rose a few pitches in shock. "Do you have a fever?!"

Out in the living room, Lynn, who was waiting alone for his treatment, immediately chimed in upon hearing this. "Hah, he doesn’t have a fever, he’s just hot and bothered!"

Kevin’s mouth twitched. Helplessly, he grabbed Luna’s hand, which was still fussing over his face. Feeling the warmth of her palm against his fingertips, he forced himself to stay calm and explained, "I’m fine, I’m fine. It was just too cold outside. My body temperature spiked when I came indoors, that’s all."

Still unconvinced, Luna frowned and rummaged through her space for a thermometer. She gave it a few flicks and stuffed it into Kevin’s mouth. "Stop making excuses. We won’t know for sure until we take your temperature!"

Kevin obediently held the thermometer in his mouth, but his eyes were glued to Luna, unable to look away. He watched as she turned around to hand out clean clothes to Lynn and Blake, her movements brisk and earnest. Occasionally, she would glance back to make sure he wasn’t moving around. Kevin’s heart melted into a puddle of mush.

He thought back to earlier. Why was she the most anxious about his injuries? He could understand her worrying about him, Lynn, and Blake. After all, they were on the same team. The last time they fought that Fourth Rank ice-element mutant plant, their injuries had been healed before Luna even saw them. But this time, they had been hurt right under her nose, so naturally, she would feel distressed for them all. However, out of the three of them, she had clearly been the most worried about him...

He wondered, "Could it be that in her heart, I am someone special?" Kevin was instantly shocked by his own conjecture. "Yes! It must be exactly as I thought!"
