The Bigshot Married Himself to the Heiress
Chapter 1420: No Comparison, No Pain
The Spring Festival Gala was coming to an end, beginning the countdown.
Rose Collins, getting on in years, was feeling sleepy and drowsy, while Pauline Briggs, Adrian Desmond, and a few others were playing Mahjong enthusiastically. Only Sienna Johnson was waiting for the countdown of the Spring Festival Gala.
The host of the Spring Festival Gala said, “The New Year’s chimes will soon ring out.”
“Dear friends… let us together, ready, ten! Nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one!”
“Happy Lunar New Year!”
“Happy New Year!”
“Dear audience friends, a brand new spring has arrived. In this beautiful moment, let us jointly wish for the harmonious prosperity and national peace of the Orienta people!”
Sienna Johnson watched the final group singing softly said, “Happy New Year.”
This year, it was good, very good.
…
After watching the Spring Festival Gala, Sienna Johnson went back to sleep, and Adrian Desmond returned only in the second half of the night.
Around four or five in the morning, the sound of firecrackers started to ring densely, making it impossible to sleep. So Sienna Johnson simply got up.
Adrian Desmond was still asleep, and Sienna Johnson poked his face, calling, “Adrian, time to get up.”
Adrian opened his eyes, glanced at Sienna, then closed his eyes again, and Sienna pinched his nose, cutting off his breathing.
“Time to get up…”
“It’s still dark outside.” Adrian said with his eyes closed, his voice dripping with dissatisfaction.
“It’s the first day of the Lunar New Year, we need to get up early to pay respects. Get up, let’s go ask my mom for the New Year’s money and win back what you lost yesterday.”
Adrian didn’t dare to win against Pauline Briggs in Mahjong. Despite his remarkable gambling skills and sleight of hand, he couldn’t stand up to Pauline.
“No!”
“Let’s go…” Sienna whispered by his ear, “Come on, get up, the sun is shining on your backside.”
Adrian suddenly opened his eyes, “Where’s the sun?”
“It’ll be out soon.”
“We’ll talk when it’s out.”
“Time to get up…” Sienna dragged Adrian up, pushing him into the bathroom to freshen up. Sienna squeezed toothpaste for him, while Adrian stood there urinating, the sound of the flowing water making Sienna a bit embarrassed.
When couples have been together long enough, they reveal all their flaws to each other, like how the person you love dearly will fart, or pick their toenails…
Adrian was completely relaxed in front of Sienna, without any reservations. But Sienna felt that even as a couple, it was important to maintain a certain image.
After finishing urinating, Adrian shook it off, leaving Sienna feeling disoriented.
Adrian flushed the toilet, walked over, took the toothbrush from Sienna’s hand, and began brushing his teeth.
“So what if I pee in front of you? I’m not embarrassed, why are you?” Adrian said, his mouth full of toothpaste foam.
“Aren’t you even a bit embarrassed?”
“No.” Adrian spat out the foam, rinsed his mouth, and feeling his chin, took out his razor intending to shave.
“No, no!” Sienna grabbed the razor from his hand, “It’s the Lunar New Year, cutting is not auspicious.”
“Who said that?”
“It’s tradition!”
“Do you believe it?”
“Just for a day, you can shave tomorrow too. Since everyone’s saying it, why break the taboo?” Sienna put the razor back.
“You Orienta people are so troublesome.”
“You talk as if you’re not from Orienta.”
“I’m from Abyanabad!”
“You married me, becoming a son-in-law of Orienta, that naturally makes you an Orienta person too.”
Adrian couldn’t argue with her, so after freshening up, he walked out.
Sienna brushed her teeth, washed her face, and applied a simple light makeup, feeling refreshed as she stepped out.
Adrian was lying on the bed, wearing black long pants, and was shirtless. The heating in the morning wasn’t very warm, and Sienna felt cold just looking at him.
“Why aren’t you dressed yet?”
“Mrs. Desmond, didn’t you say that for the New Year we should wear new clothes? Where are my new clothes?”
“I put them in the wardrobe for you.”
“I don’t know which one it is.”
Sienna found it for Adrian; the clothes were picked out personally by Sienna and her mother from the business world, not a big brand, but the material was excellent.
A dark V-neck sweater, with a blue shirt inside, paired with casual pants and leather shoes, in simple color tones.
“It’s not a brand, but the material is quite comfortable. Try it on.”
Even though it wasn’t a brand, Adrian was still very happy when Sienna bought him clothes.
“Mrs. Desmond, you earned a lot this year, yet you still didn’t buy me a branded one.” Adrian said with a smirk while getting dressed in front of Sienna, obviously happy inside but still wanting to tease Sienna.
“I’m so poor, I have several new projects this year that all need money. I’ll buy you Armani clothes next year for the New Year.”
“Armani.” Adrian chuckled.
Sienna asked, “What’s up?”
“Such a big brand.”
Sienna: …
…
Curly and Dylan hid in the attic, counting red envelopes. Curly’s eyes sparkled at the sight of the cash, while Dylan, true to his little prince manner, looked at money as if it was mere dirt, completely indifferent.
“8900…9000…9800…ah, still not 1.5 thousand dollars.” Curly said disappointedly.
“Do you want mine? You can have it all.” Dylan said generously.
Curly glared fiercely at him, “Hmph, you’re trying to take advantage of me!”
“Huh?”
“New Year’s money is from elders to juniors, you’d be taking advantage by giving me New Year’s money!”
Dylan laughed gently and said, “Then I won’t give it.”
Curly looked longingly at Dylan’s red envelope, “Your dad is so rich.”
“Aunt and Uncle are also very rich.”
“What’s the point of being rich? They’re not even willing to give me money.” Curly said indignantly.
Kiya gave Dylan a red envelope of 60,000, a super large red envelope, indeed a super large red envelope.
Without comparison, there’s no harm. If Dylan hadn’t received that supersized red envelope, Curly might have been happy, but…
“My mom is so stingy, she’s definitely not my real mom!”
Kiya gave Dylan a red envelope of 60,000, while Sienna Johnson only gave Curly 600 bucks. 600 bucks, just six bills stuffed in the envelope, making it seem like there was nothing in there. Unlike Dylan’s, which was plump and obviously contained a lot of money.
“Aunt gave me only 600 too.” Dylan said.
“My mom gave me 600, and also 600 to you. Why did your dad give you 60,000 and give me just 600?” Curly couldn’t wrap his head around it, no matter how hard he tried.
Dylan explained to Curly, “Oh, I overheard Aunt telling my dad not to give you too much, 600 would be enough.”
“Dylan, that woman is not my real mom. I must’ve been adopted. Boohoo…”
“Hehe…” Dylan laughed along, knowing Curly was quite greedy.
Curly was not happy, very unhappy, especially seeing Dylan’s big red envelope made her even sadder. She got up and walked to the window, intending to open it and let the bitter cold wind blow away her sadness when she was suddenly startled by a scene in the courtyard nearby.
