Chapter 20: Chapter 20: She Won’t Have A Choice

Alexander didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he turned and looked out across the city once more. When he finally spoke, his voice carried none of its usual restraint, and his lips curved into a rare smile.

"I found her Oliver."

Oliver frowned slightly. "I’m sorry? I don’t quite understand."

"My mate...she is my mate that I’ve longed for, for so long."

Oliver froze, the color drained from his face so quickly it was almost comical. For several seconds he simply stared, and Alexander waited for the information to sink into him. Then a slow smile spread across Oliver’s face.

It wasn’t merely happiness, it was relief....profound relief. He knows what this man here had gone through, in the quest for his fated mate.

He bowed his head again to Alexander. "Congratulations, Alpha."

Alexander inclined his head ever so slightly. "Thank you.".

Oliver blinked repeatedly before shaking his head. "Am happy that you’ve finally found her, after..." He paused and swallowed. "...after searching all these centuries."

"Yes. The Moon Goddess finally decided that my centuries of torment, will finally come to an end."

Oliver’s expression softened. "So... she’s the young woman who left this morning?" Oliver asked to be sure.

"She is."

"How did you even meet her?" Oliver asked him, his eyes held a twinkle there....the need for gossip.

"I met her in the club. I went there because Derick insisted on me going and dragged me there. I smelled her scent when she arrived, and knew immediately that she was the one. And when I couldn’t resist her, and stood in front of her....I imprinted on her immediately. Now looking back at the events that led to Derick dragging me there.....am actually happy that I went with him."

Alexander’s face lit up with a radiant smile, making his already handsome face much more devastating. His eyes sparkling with untamed happiness.

Oliver was happy for him and he then looked around the destroyed bedroom, the shattered crystal, the broken marble vase, and the crushed note still lying on the floor.

"Alpha.....I’m guessing with the State of this room and your angry roar this morning, that things didn’t end the way you expected."

Alexander let out a quiet breath. "No it didn’t."

"What happened?"

Alexander bent down, picked up the wrinkled piece of paper, and handed it to him.

Oliver took it from him and carefully unfolded it. His eyes moved across the handwritten words, and when he finished reading, he looked up slowly.

"She told you... to forget her?"

Alexander’s smile returned, this one was somehow even more dangerous than the last. "She believes last night was a mistake."

Oliver wisely chose not to comment on that. Instead, he folded the note and returned it to him. "Since she told you to forget....then it means that she’s not of our kind. Otherwise, the bond would have made her unable to leave."

Alexander tilted his head his head in confusion, furrowing his brows and he tried to understand the complicated situation he found in her last night.

"Not quite. But what i know is....i’ll find her. She belongs with me."

"I’ll do as you ordered and start immediately." Oliver bowed once more before heading toward the door. But his hand had barely touched the handle when Alexander spoke again.

"Oliver."

He immediately turned. "Yes Alpha?"

"One more thing." Alexander’s expression became completely unreadable. "Keep this quiet. I don’t want the other two knowing anything about her yet."

Oliver’s brows rose in surprise. "You wish to keep this from your brothers?"

"For now yes."

Oliver understood immediately. The Blackthorne brothers are mayhem wrapped in charm. They would also tear the world apart for their mates.

If either Lucien or Damien discovered that Alexander had found his destined mate before they could....things could become... complicated.

Very quickly Oliver nodded his head. "I understand."

Alexander’s blue eyes held an unmistakable warning. "If either of them hears even a whisper about Iris before I decide the time is right....things might turn bloody. I need time to bring her safety beside me. They won’t dare make a move on her....once she’s publicly acknowledged in our word as mine."

Oliver nodded once. "Of course alpha, they won’t hear anything from me. My alligence is with you since am your beta."

Only then did Alexander dismiss him, and the bedroom door clicked shut. Alexander walked toward the enormous mirror standing beside his wardrobe and adjusted the knot of his deep midnight-blue silk tie from Hermès with slow, deliberate movements.

His reflection looked exactly as it always had...Collected, untouchable and powerful.

Only he knew the beast beneath that polished exterior was pacing restlessly inside him, demanding for it’s mate.

His fingers tightened around the edge of the marble counter. Soon he’ll know everything about her, and he will place her by his side, whether she wanted it or not.

"No, little mate." His voice was barely above a whisper, a slow smile curved across his lips. "You might have dared misunderstand my intentions and thought this can only end in one night, but you’re dead wrong. I never asked whether you intended to stay."

His icy blue eyes seemed to gleam with quiet certainty. "I only told you that if I don’t do causal. That if I took you to my bed..." He paused, remembering the promise he’d made inside the car, before he claimed her lips. "...that you would be mine."

His gaze settled on the Seattle skyline beyond the glass.

"You can run from me for a day, for a week. And If you’re particularly stubborn, perhaps even a month."

The smile deepened. "But eventually..." His voice dropped into something dark enough to send shivers through anyone who heard it.

"...I’ll find you. There’s nowhere on earth that can hide you from me. And when I do...I’m never letting you leave my side ever again."

He straightened his tie one final time before walking toward the bedroom door.
