Chapter 178: Someone Attacked Her?
Chapter 178: Someone Attacked Her?
In the hotel’s luxurious presidential suite, Zachary stared at his cell phone, trying to process the information he had just heard.
The news had left his entire body frozen, and for a moment, even his mind seemed unable to function.
He couldn’t put into words how he felt. Worry, annoyance, anger, and helplessness tangled together into one overwhelming emotion. It was a feeling he had never experienced before, something completely foreign to him.
As countless questions filled his mind, a dull ache settled in his head and sent a chill through his veins.
’Someone attacked her?’
His hand tightened around his phone before another thought surfaced.
’Who? My business partners? But how did they find out so quickly that she is my wife when not even my family knows?’
It took several seconds for Zachary to ease his tension and regain his calm composure.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, he immediately called his hacker. It didn’t take long for a deep voice to answer from the other end.
"Hello, sir..." Hunter’s voice came through the speakerphone. "...is there anything you need from me?"
"Hunter, what happened to my wife?" Zachary asked calmly, though the worry on his face was impossible to hide.
The fact that Hunter didn’t answer immediately only made his anxiety grow stronger.
"Sir," Hunter finally spoke, his tone clearly revealing his shock, "you already know about your wife’s accident?"
"You and the others will take responsibility because you hid this huge matter from me!" Zachary’s voice turned colder and heavier.
"Sorry, sir—"
Zachary took a deep breath, trying to suppress his anger before finally speaking again. "I need you to tell me the details and what progress you’ve made."
He forced himself to stay calm as he listened, even though the pounding in his chest grew louder with every passing second.
"I received a call from Logan a few hours ago. Your wife had a fairly deep cut on her arm, and it was clearly more than a minor injury."
"I already know that," Zachary interrupted impatiently. "Did you find out how and where she was injured?"
"Logan already asked her, but she didn’t tell him anything. However, I checked the last place Logan dropped her off, the convenience store. After reviewing the CCTV footage around the convenience store, I discovered that someone had been following her."
Hunter paused briefly before continuing.
"Actually, a car had been following her ever since she left the Imperial Hotel. There were five people inside. When the car stopped near the convenience store, four of them got out and spread out across several empty spots nearby. When she finally left the store, I saw one of the men follow her as she walked toward the apartment building. But..."
Hunter paused again.
This time, several more seconds passed, and the sound of typing echoed through the call as if he were searching for something on his computer.
Zachary’s patience finally snapped.
"But what?" he demanded, the tension in his eyes growing more obvious as he stared at the city street below.
"There were no CCTV cameras in the area she passed through, a few meters from her apartment side gate. She disappeared from view for around ten to fifteen minutes before finally showing up near the gate again."
Hunter took a breath before continuing.
"When she appears on camera again, she’s running as if someone is chasing her. But she manages to get inside the building without anyone following her. It’s almost as if the people chasing her knew there were CCTV cameras around the apartment."
Hunter seemed to understand that Zachary’s silence meant he was struggling to process the information. He waited patiently for his boss to speak.
"Continue," Zachary ordered after several long seconds.
"The four men who had been following your wife eventually showed up again and returned to the car waiting for them. But something about it is confusing."
"What do you mean?"
"When they came out of the blind spot, they looked awfully messed up. Two of them were limping toward the car, and another could barely walk. If I had to guess, I’d say they’d just been beaten up." Hunter’s voice brightened as he added, "I guess someone helped her deal with them."
Zachary frowned deeply and shook his head.
"No. My wife beat them herself."
"Oh?" Hunter sounded genuinely surprised. "How could I forget? Of course she did. She’s a black belt in taekwondo..."
His laughter crackled through the phone, but Zachary’s expression remained dark.
He wasn’t relieved by the fact that his wife had been able to protect herself. One thing continued to trouble him.
Despite her successful self-defense, she was injured.
And whoever had hurt her deserved nothing but severe punishment.
"Send me all the CCTV footage," Zachary ordered. "Then coordinate with Brad and capture those men. I want every one of them caught before my jet lands in Silver City."
"Yes, sir. I’ll make sure they’re captured before you arrive."
After giving Hunter a few more instructions, Zachary ended the call and immediately dialed another number. This time, he called his assistant, Trevor Murphy.
"Trevor, prepare the jet. We’re returning to the country as soon as possible—"
"Returning to Start City?" Murphy sounded surprised.
"Yes."
"What about your dinner plans with the client?"
Zachary let out a heavy sigh.
"Let Kevin entertain them. I need to fly back. My wife needed me by her side."
"Yes, sir. I’ll arrange everything right away."
Once the call ended, Zachary stared at Sienna’s phone number on the screen.
He wanted to call and ask about her condition, but when he remembered that it was already past midnight there, he forced himself to stop.
Instead, he opened the last text message she had sent him a few hours earlier.
"I’m at home. Good night, Zach!"
A deep sigh escaped him as he imagined how terrible the situation must have been. She had fought four men and had even been stabbed. The thought alone was enough to make his chest tighten with pain.
Zachary found himself wishing he could do something impossible. He wished he could simply teleport to her side.
