Chapter 313: Are They Giving You a Hard Time?

Sienna smiled with relief.

She had not told them every detail, but she felt a lot lighter now that she had finally been honest about the most important parts.

For years, she had carried the weight of her past alone, and although there were still things she couldn’t bring herself to reveal, telling Maya and Jimmy about Skylar felt like an important step.

Maya and Jimmy listened in silence. Neither of them interrupted her, but their tear-filled eyes spoke clearly about how deeply her story had affected them. Maya looked at Sienna with love, sadness, and regret.

At the same time, Jimmy quietly lowered his gaze for a moment as he tried to control his emotions.

"Sienna, my heart aches for you knowing that you went through so much at such a young age," Maya said, wiping away the tears that had gathered at the corners of her eyes. "You were still so young, yet you had to deal with things that no child should have had to face alone."

Jimmy took a deep breath and gently rubbed his wife’s back, trying to comfort her.

He was saddened too. Hearing Sienna’s story made him realize how much she had struggled during the years when they had been apart. She had been young, studying, and trying to take care of her sick father at the same time. Even though she had never told them everything, he could understand that her life had not been easy.

"I’m so sorry, Sienna," Jimmy said softly. His voice carried genuine regret. "I wish I could have been there for you back then. I wasn’t able to help you when you needed someone, and I feel terrible knowing that you had to go through all of that by yourself."

Sienna looked at Jimmy and gave him a reassuring smile.

She didn’t want their reunion to turn into a painful conversation about everything that had gone wrong in the past. She had already spent enough years thinking about those difficult moments, and she didn’t want Maya and Jimmy to blame themselves for things they couldn’t have known about at the time.

"Aunty, Uncle... I’m okay now, and I’m happy now," she said gently. "There’s no need to feel sad about my past. I’ve already gone through it, and I don’t want to keep looking back. Let’s just put it behind us and live happily from now on."

Maya looked at her niece through tearful eyes and slowly nodded. Although she still had many questions and her heart was heavy with sadness for the young Sienna who had once struggled alone, she understood what her niece was asking of them. Sienna didn’t want their family to be defined by the pain of the past. She wanted them to enjoy the time they finally had together.

Jimmy also nodded, giving Sienna a small but sincere smile. "You’re right. What matters is that you’re happy now."

Sienna’s smile grew warmer as she looked between the two people she had trusted and respected.

They continued their conversation, this time without dwelling on the past. Instead, they talked about how Jimmy and Maya were adjusting to life in the new city, their house, the neighborhood, and their child’s school.

Sienna was happy to hear that everything had been going well for them so far. Although they were still getting used to their new surroundings, Maya and Jimmy seemed much more relaxed now that they had settled into their new home.

After some time, Maya suddenly stood from her seat. "I’ll get another fresh fruit. Sienna, do you want something to drink?"

Sienna shook her head. "No, Aunty. I’m fine."

She couldn’t help smiling as she watched her aunt walk toward the kitchen to get more fruit for them. Something about seeing Maya fuss over her like this felt comforting. It reminded Sienna of the kind of family life she had always wished she could have.

When Sienna was about to speak again, Jimmy spoke first. His expression became a little more serious as he brought up something he had clearly been thinking about.

"Sienna, about your husband... does he treat you well?" he asked carefully. His eyes were filled with concern, as though he was worried that the question might make her uncomfortable.

"My husband is very kind to me." Her eyes lit up as she thought about Zachary and all the little things he did for her. He could be serious and demanding with other people, but with her, he was patient, caring, and gentle. "He loves me very much."

Jimmy smiled in relief. Hearing the certainty in her voice made him feel much better. However, his relief lasted only a few seconds before another question escaped him.

"What about his parents? Do they know about our family?"

Sienna didn’t answer immediately. Her thoughts drifted to Hannah and Kennedy Sterling, her in-laws. They had always been incredibly kind to her and had never once pressured her about her family background. They had welcomed her warmly and treated her with genuine affection.

She knew exactly why they had never asked too many questions. Zachary had already spoken to his parents and asked them not to bring up her family matters, so they had respected his wishes.

Sienna felt grateful for their kindness, but a small part of her still worried about what might happen if they eventually learned the truth.

She knew Hannah and Kennedy were good people. Still, she couldn’t help wondering whether they might see her differently once they knew everything she had been through.

"Are they giving you a hard time?" Jimmy asked, his voice becoming even more worried when he noticed her hesitation.

Sienna looked at her uncle and saw the sadness and worry in his eyes. She knew he was only asking because he cared about her. She quickly smiled and shook her head.

"No, not at all. They’re very kind to me, and they like me a lot. Honestly, the way they treat me makes me feel like they’re my real parents."

"That’s good to hear... After everything that you’ve told us about everything you’ve been going through, you earned it."

Jimmy leaned back, and the tension in his posture and expression finally eased. He’d worried Sienna might have married into a difficult family, especially after everything she had already experienced on her own. Knowing that her husband’s parents treated her well gave him some peace of mind.
