Chapter 1238: Chapter 1235: You’re Nothing More Than a Substitute

At this moment, the words fell into Hua Xiaomo’s ears, and a strange feeling seeped through Zi Yunsui’s heart. She didn’t know why, but she did not feel entirely repulsed.

"How would I dare? I don’t even have enough time to love you..." The words slipped out, trembling and uncertain, yet on Zi Yunsui’s clear, handsome face there was, in this moment, an imprint of sincerity. Deep inside, there was even a faint stir of emotion! Those clear, luminous eyes met that pair of penetrating, intelligent ones, and seeing Hua Xiaomo’s gentle, elegant smile—a smile as radiant as orchids at dawn—brushed softly across the canyon of her heart.

She didn’t know why, but this wasn’t something feigned. In this instant, had she really been moved? Could she truly forget her hatred for this woman? That hatred of the past, those former wounds... once had made her heart-rendingly, bone-deep pained; her cruelty, her mercilessness had chilled him to the marrow, left him utterly broken...

Zi Yunsui, oh Zi Yunsui, you are nothing but a substitute. What else can you possibly hold on to? The one who loved you most, and the one you loved most, are already gone; what remains is just this wreck of a body that is you! You have already sold away your marriage, become the most pitiful, most pathetic person under heaven—what happiness is there left to speak of? It’s nothing but a luxury you can’t afford...

Thinking of these bygone things, Zi Yunsui immediately shut that throbbing door to his heart. On his handsome, refined face once more appeared that faint indifference and calm, without the slightest change. Looking at her orchid-fair, flushed face, those vermilion lips moved as if she had something to say. But shy and abashed, she never uttered a word. She merely nestled against his side like a little woman, silent... Was this really her? A pity, the times when she could be a little woman were far, far too few...

Bite once, gain a measure of wisdom—how could I still so easily fall into the trap you’ve dug?

"Weren’t you going back to the company? Why don’t I go with you now?" Zi Yunsui’s gentle, warm voice rippled in the air. By now his mind was completely free of distraction.

"Mm. All right!" Hua Xiaomo replied at once. In her bright eyes was reflected trust and affection.

"Godfather, we’ll head out first! Please trouble yourself to tell Aunt Huang there’s no need to prepare breakfast for us. Hua Xiaomo and I... will eat outside!" Zi Yunsui said slowly, his eyes glancing at Mo Longhai, throwing him a look. Then, after a brief inward pause, he continued, "Bing Tong, I’ll have to trouble you to look after her! She doesn’t have the habit of eating at fixed times, so I must trouble you, godfather, to keep an extra eye on her!"

"Don’t worry, I’ll take care of that little girl! You two, don’t work yourselves too hard! Go on now!" Mo Longhai finished speaking and gave him a confirming look.

Afterwards, he watched as Zi Yunsui and Hua Xiaomo left the villa.

When Hua Xiaomo was about to drive personally, she was stopped by Zi Yunsui, whose handsome, serene face broke into his trademark smile.

"Let me do it," Zi Yunsui said calmly, glancing at her, the corners of his mouth lifting in a faint smile.

"This... all right then!" Hua Xiaomo hesitated for a moment, then quickly stretched out her slender arm and handed over the car key.

Zi Yunsui extended his left hand, took the key, and as his fingers brushed hers, there was still that electric jolt; yet that current, running straight into the depths of his heart, had become a helpless, bitter ache! Gone was that fleeting taste of sweetness... Somehow, that feeling seemed to have vanished...

He paused, slightly dazed, then temporarily cast aside that heavy burden in his heart.

Hua Xiaomo sat in the back seat; she never sat in the front passenger seat. That was her habit, always, except when she was driving herself. This also showed that Hua Xiaomo had an extraordinarily strong sense of self-defense. It was an unintentional detail, but Zi Yunsui had taken note of it.

She hadn’t changed at all, still just as cautious and careful. Even after marrying him, she was the same. Did this mean that... in her subconscious, she still hadn’t fully trusted him? Or was it that marriage could not give her a sense of security, and only supreme power was her greatest love?

Zi Yunsui drove, and all the way the two of them barely spoke. The atmosphere was somewhat oppressive. After a short while, soft, lovely music drifted through the spacious interior of the car. Zi Yunsui had turned on the stereo to ease the slightly congealed air.

Their thoughts could not have been more different.

This black Rolls-Royce Phantom 7, with its powerful V12 engine boasting 453 horsepower, could be called the aristocrat among cars. Its interior appointments and high-tech wireless satellite television were all that one could desire—everything was complete, and beneath its luxurious air it fully displayed the bearing of a noble king of the road! My, it took only 5.7 seconds to push this nearly twenty-foot behemoth up to sixty miles an hour.

Cars, for Zi Yunsui, were also something he cherished. At this moment, driving this beast of a performance car, he unconsciously felt his mood grow lighter and more at ease.

Before long, the car merged onto the Central Ring Line, the road leading to the Hong Kong Wanlong Fudi Group. For Zi Yunsui, this was already a familiar route. A little over half an hour later, they arrived outside that towering building. Zi Yunsui slowed down, and before they even reached the gate, he saw from a distance that the guard at the building had already raised the barrier to let their car through. Without a word, Zi Yunsui pressed down on the accelerator with his right foot and "whoosh"—the car shot forward, coming to a steady stop at the entrance of the office building.

He immediately opened the driver’s door, stepped out, and went around to the back, gentlemanly opening the rear door for Hua Xiaomo. Only then did the regal Hua Xiaomo slowly alight from the car, her orchid-like, exquisite face blooming into a faint smile that could topple all living beings.

"Hua Xiaomo, go on up first. I’ll go park the car," Zi Yunsui said in a melodious voice. Gazing at the noblewoman before him, he smiled faintly and, stepping forward of his own accord, lightly gathered the bare jade of her shoulders and arms into his embrace.

"Mm." Hua Xiaomo answered softly. Her body leaned into his warm chest, reluctant to part. Only after a long moment did she straighten up, gazing intently at his handsome face. She leaned closer, and her blossom-like beauty, with lips not overly flushed yet plump with moist color and gleaming texture, pressed a tender kiss onto his cheek before she smiled in satisfaction. Leisurely turning her head, she adjusted the fur on her body and, stepping on three-inch heels, walked into her own "kingdom"—the Fudi Group.

Only when he saw Hua Xiaomo enter the great hall and disappear from his line of sight did the warmth on Zi Yunsui’s face return to its usual composure and detachment. Moving quickly, he turned back into the driver’s seat, started the engine, and drove toward the Fudi Group’s underground garage.

In the blink of an eye, he arrived at the vast underground parking lot. Glancing at the directional signs ahead, Zi Yunsui circled around a few times; casting his gaze left and right, he spotted a corner and pulled the car in, then stepped out in a quick stride.

His clear, bright eyes were now like an eagle’s, sweeping and scanning the area. It was utterly quiet all around, not a sound to be heard. Aside from a blanket of silence, there was no trace of any movement! Cars were lined up neatly in rows, all kinds of models present, each sitting in its assigned spot according to the white numbers painted on the ground. Only the harsh white light of the underground garage’s incandescent lamps spilled down onto the cars, reflecting off their surfaces in a way that was a little dazzling to the eye.
