The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!
Chapter 164: The Door That Should Never Have Opened
"Don’t give it to him."
The warning came from beyond the doorway. Rin froze. The man standing in the darkness tilted his head, seemingly amused by the interruption.
"Still hiding behind warnings?" he asked.
Vaelor stepped away from the broken pedestal.
"Orien."
The name seemed to change the atmosphere of the hall. Every remaining light stopped moving. Lucien immediately positioned himself between Vaelor and the doorway.
"You said he was a myth."
"I said the Gods believed he was," Vaelor replied.
Kaelith’s gaze remained fixed on the darkness.
"Come out."
The man laughed softly.
"You haven’t changed, Kaelith. You still believe every problem can be solved by forcing it to face you."
"Come out."
"Very well."
The darkness parted. A man stepped into the light. He appeared ordinary. Dark hair, pale skin, simple clothing. There was nothing divine about his appearance, no visible weapon or magical aura.
Yet the moment Rin looked into his eyes, the golden key in his hand began trembling.
Orien smiled.
"There you are."
Rin closed his fingers around the key.
"You said something belongs to you."
"It does."
"What’s that?"
Orien pointed at the key.
"The first possibility."
Rin frowned.
Vaelor spoke before he could answer.
"Don’t listen to him. The key doesn’t belong to anyone."
Orien glanced at him.
"You always were a poor student."
"I learned enough to understand what you did."
"Did you?" Orien asked. "Then perhaps you can explain why the World exists."
Vaelor said nothing.
Orien turned back to Rin.
"Aelion created the World because he wanted to protect the people he loved. Elias gave it a foundation because he wanted existence to continue. The Gods inherited it and established laws to control it."
He approached the doorway.
"But none of them asked the most important question."
Rin watched him carefully.
"What question?"
"Who gave them permission to believe the World needed to exist in the first place?"
The hall fell silent.
Inside Rin’s mind, Aelion stirred.
He’s lying.
Rin kept his expression neutral.
About what?
He didn’t create the World. He gave me the knowledge to create it, but he never owned the idea.
Orien’s smile widened.
"You hear him, don’t you?"
Rin’s stomach tightened.
Orien looked directly at him.
"Aelion has always been very good at hiding behind other people."
Kaelith stepped forward.
"Don’t speak to him."
Orien regarded Kaelith with mild curiosity.
"You really don’t know, do you?"
"Know what?"
"That the person you have been searching for was never the only one who could bring Rin back."
Kaelith’s expression darkened.
Orien continued.
"I could have returned him at any time."
The first Rin moved beside Rin.
"Then why didn’t you?"
Orien looked at him.
"Because you asked me not to."
The first Rin went still.
The archive shifted.
A memory appeared between them.
A younger version of the first Rin stood in a garden beneath a white tree. Orien sat beside him, holding a small book.
"You cannot keep doing this," Orien said.
The first Rin looked at the ground.
"I know."
"Kaelith will never stop searching."
"I know."
"And Aelion will continue rewriting the World to give him another chance."
The first Rin closed his eyes.
"That’s why I need you to promise me something."
Orien waited.
"If the World begins repeating the same mistakes, don’t let it bring me back just to make Kaelith suffer again."
Orien studied him.
"And if Kaelith finds another version of you?"
"Let him choose."
The memory faded.
Rin looked at the first Rin.
"You knew Orien?"
The young man nodded.
"I met him before I made the request."
"Why didn’t you tell us?"
"Because I thought he had disappeared."
Orien gave a small laugh.
"I did disappear. I simply wasn’t erased."
Vaelor shook his head.
"You let us believe you were gone."
"I let you believe what you needed to believe."
"People suffered because of it."
"People suffered because the World was given power without limits. Do not mistake my absence for its choices."
Elias stepped forward.
"Then why have you returned now?"
Orien’s expression became serious.
"Because the first law has ended. The covenant has been opened. And the World is beginning to lose its ability to preserve the boundaries between timelines."
He looked at Rin.
"The key is the only thing keeping the original possibilities connected."
Rin glanced at the golden key.
"Why do you need it?"
"Because I intend to close the door."
Serevan’s voice came from behind them.
"And what happens to the people inside the erased timelines?"
Orien looked at him.
"They remain where they are."
"Trapped?"
"Preserved."
Serevan’s expression hardened.
"That’s another word for imprisoned."
Orien shrugged.
"Would you prefer I let every erased timeline return at once? Do you understand what that would do? Memories, lives, and entire histories would overlap. People would remember events that never happened. Some would exist in several versions. Others would vanish because two timelines cannot occupy the same place."
Rin considered his words.
There was truth in them.
But there was also something missing.
"You keep talking about closing the door," Rin said. "You haven’t explained why you should be the one deciding."
Orien smiled.
"Because I understand what the others refuse to accept. Not every possibility deserves to become reality."
"And who decides which ones deserve it?"
"Someone must."
"No," Rin replied. "Someone must decide for themselves."
Orien’s smile faded.
For a moment, the ordinary-looking man seemed much older.
"You sound like the first Rin."
"Maybe he was right."
Orien looked toward the first Rin.
"He was right about many things. But he was wrong to believe that allowing people to choose would always lead somewhere good."
The first Rin answered quietly.
"That was never my promise."
The golden key suddenly grew warm again.
A thin line of light appeared along its surface.
Rin looked down.
Seven tiny symbols were engraved around its handle. Six had already illuminated.
The seventh—the empty circle—remained dark.
Aelion spoke inside his mind.
The key is responding to the original record.
Rin looked toward the seven doors.
What does the seventh symbol mean?
The possibility that was never chosen.
Orien noticed the light.
His expression changed.
"Give me the key."
"No."
"Rin, listen carefully. If that final symbol awakens, every possibility connected to the original timeline will become accessible."
"Isn’t that what we’ve been trying to do?"
"No. You have been trying to restore the people who were erased. This will restore every path that led to their erasure as well."
Kaelith stepped beside Rin.
"Then we’ll face those paths."
Orien looked at him.
"You would risk every life in existence for another chance to be with him?"
Kaelith’s reply was immediate.
"No."
Rin turned toward him.
Kaelith continued.
"I will not destroy the world to keep Rin beside me. But neither will I allow you to decide that his existence is a threat."
For a moment, Orien seemed unable to respond.
Then he looked at Rin.
"Is that what you want? A world where he might lose you again?"
Rin took Kaelith’s hand.
"I want a world where neither of us has to be owned to remain together."
The seventh symbol flickered.
Orien’s expression hardened.
"Then you have no idea what you’re about to release."
He raised his hand.
The darkness behind him surged into the hall.
Vaelor immediately summoned a barrier, but the force struck it and sent him sliding backward.
Lucien caught him.
"Are you all right?"
Vaelor nodded, though his expression remained tense.
Orien reached toward the key.
Rin pulled back.
The golden light burst outward.
For one brief instant, the entire hall disappeared.
Rin stood somewhere else.
A field beneath a dark sky.
A white tree.
And a person sitting beneath it.
The figure lifted his head.
Rin recognized him.
It was the pale-eyed stranger who had first stopped him and Eryndor on the road beyond House Valen.
The one who had said he was the first person who tried to change fate.
The stranger looked at Rin.
"You took your time."
Rin stared.
"Who are you really?"
The man stood.
"I am the seventh possibility."
The field trembled.
Behind him, another figure appeared.
Aelion.
Not the voice inside Rin’s mind.
Not the memory from the archive.
Aelion himself.
He looked at the stranger with unmistakable grief.
"You survived."
The stranger smiled faintly.
"I was never allowed to die."
Rin felt the key burning in his hand.
"What is this place?"
Aelion looked toward him.
"The timeline that existed before I created the World."
Rin’s breath caught.
"Before?"
The stranger nodded.
"This was the original world. The one where the first choice was made without Gods, covenants, or laws."
He glanced toward the darkness gathering around the field.
"And the one Orien has been trying to close ever since."
A voice echoed through the vision.
THE SEVENTH POSSIBILITY MUST REMAIN UNRECORDED.
The stranger looked at Rin.
"Now you understand why he wants the key."
The vision began to collapse.
Before Rin could ask anything else, the stranger reached toward him.
"Whatever happens, do not let Orien open the seventh door."
The world shattered.
Rin returned to the archive.
Kaelith was holding his shoulders.
"Rin! What happened?"
Rin looked toward Orien.
The man stood perfectly still.
For the first time, his expression showed genuine anger.
"You saw him."
Rin nodded.
Orien lowered his hand.
"Then there’s no more reason to pretend."
The darkness behind him opened wider, revealing a vast landscape beyond the archive.
A white tree stood in the distance.
Beneath it waited countless figures.
People who had never existed in the World.
People whose lives had been erased before they could begin.
Orien looked at Rin.
"The seventh possibility is not a future, Rin."
His voice became almost gentle.
"It is the world I promised to preserve."
He stepped aside.
"And now, you must decide whether you want to bring it back."
The golden key turned in Rin’s hand.
The seventh symbol finally began to glow.
And somewhere beyond the archive, the original world opened its eyes.
