Chapter 57: You are an S-Rank?!

Zephyr’s skill followed Han’s retreating figure, weaving through the surrounding chaos as it moved through the crowd.

He had already memorized Han’s aura, allowing him to track him even amid the countless Espers, Guides, and wounded civilians being rushed back to safety.

Zephyr had long since noticed that every person’s aura carried a unique signature.

After all, he had memorized Lucien’s presence using his Psychokinesis skill.

Although he was not yet proficient with it, he had learned to recognize these subtle differences, allowing him to distinguish between different individuals, especially Awakened, through their unique auras.

After a moment, Zephyr followed Han.

This was the first time since awakening as an Esper that Zephyr was truly about to use his skills on an actual battlefield. Until now, he had only been practicing his skills and trying to learn all the ways he could use them, rather than just learning the basics.

The only times he had used them were when his or Lucien’s life was in danger.

But this time was different.

Lucien was not in danger.

There was no time to experiment.

No time to think.

No room for hesitation.

Monsters were running rampant through B City, civilians were still trapped, and Espers were fighting desperately to hold the line.

For the first time, Zephyr was about to find out just how powerful he had truly become.

And he was not going to hold back at all.

A faint smile curled on his lips, and suddenly, his speed increased, leaving behind only wind and an afterimage.

The people he passed were startled when they sensed someone rushing past them.

But they all only caught a glimpse of his figure before he vanished from their sight.

Esper Han was very fast.

After all, he possessed Wind-type skills.

He was considered the fastest in B City.

As an A-Rank Esper, his agility could even rival that of most S-Rank Espers, as long as they did not possess any agility-boosting abilities or have particularly high agility.

In his hurry, Han had forgotten to slow down a little even though he had asked someone to follow him. However, when Han finally remembered this and turned around to go back and grab the Esper to take him along, he nearly lost his footing when he found Zephyr right beside him.

"FUCK!"

A curse slipped unconsciously from his mouth as Han quickly steadied himself, barely maintaining his balance at such a high speed. He eyed Zephyr, turning his body back toward where they were going.

His voice echoed in Zephyr’s head.

"You scared the hell out of me. Why didn’t you tell me you were a Wind-type too?"

Zephyr continued following Han’s aura.

He did not have a Telepathy skill, so he could only speak aloud. However, with the loud wind roaring past them at such high speed, his voice was almost drowned out.

"Wind-type? I did not know."

Still, Han caught his words. As an A-Rank Esper, his enhanced senses allowed him to hear even the faintest sounds around him.

He smirked but did not comment.

Many Espers liked to keep some of their abilities hidden from others, after all, so he did not take Zephyr’s words too seriously.

The two rushed beyond the safe zone.

When Han saw that Zephyr was following him so effortlessly, he increased his speed.

To his surprise, this good-looking Esper easily matched his speed, even at his peak!

It seemed he was not all looks after all.

He actually knew how to use his power.

Han rolled his eyes, a faintly amused mutter escaping under his breath.

"And he said he had no Wind-type skills."

Han avoided the group of bee-like flying monsters that a powerful Esper and his team were fighting outside the safe zone.

They were heading toward the school to provide assistance, so he could not afford to waste his energy on unnecessary fights, especially after he just received guiding.

Zephyr sensed the monsters as well. The aura surrounding them was completely different from that of Espers and Guides.

It was wild and violent.

His calm eyes narrowed.

Instead of avoiding them completely, he simply raised his hand and increased the range of his Psychokinesis skill. Instantly, the space around the monsters trembled.

In the very next second, debris, massive walls from fallen buildings, shards of glass, huge rocks, and anything else within range were violently lifted into the air, swarming the flying monsters from all directions.

For a moment, a dark shadow enveloped the sky as it was blanketed with rubble.

The Espers fighting the bee-like monsters froze in shock. Even the group of monsters was startled by the sudden turn of events.

Realizing what was happening, the leader of the Espers immediately ran back, shouting.

"RETREAT! I SAID RETREAT!"

The moment the Espers were at a safe distance, everything suspended in the air came crashing down with a thunderous bang, spreading clouds of dust everywhere.

The debris buried the panicked monsters trying to escape beneath it, silencing their frantic cries beneath the pile of rubble.

One of the Espers at the very back tripped and fell, staring at the scene in horror as he coughed through the thick clouds of dust.

"Which S-Rank Esper just passed by and decided to help us in such a suicidal way?! Couldn’t he at least warn us first?!"

His heart was still beating frantically.

"I almost saw my life flash before my eyes!"

His teammates were in much the same state, staring at the massive pile of rubble with ragged breaths and pale faces. None of them had ever expected to be helped in such a terrifying and reckless manner!

Zephyr was already quite far away, following Han toward the school.

But his senses still allowed him to hear their words faintly through the chaos.

He slowed for only a brief moment.

A pang of conscience stirred within him.

Perhaps he should have warned them first.

But he had been in a hurry, and they had been in danger. At least they were safe now.

Zephyr quickly turned his attention back to the road ahead and continued after Han as they jumped over rocks and fallen buildings, only to hear Han ask in his mind in shock.

"You are an S-Rank?!"

Han had noticed Zephyr’s movement and knew that the Esper following him was the one who had just utilized such a powerful Telekinesis skill. It was the most powerful Telekinesis skill Han had ever witnessed in his life—even stronger than the S-Ranks in B City whom he knew had Telekinesis skills!

As Han glanced at him for an answer, he momentarily lost focus and tripped over a rock. And Zephyr, who had been completely relying on his aura to navigate through the rubble, followed suit. He stumbled over the same rock and fell in nearly the exact same manner. Han groaned in pain and cursed.

Zephyr hissed softly as well, having scraped his knee in the sudden fall.

Hearing each other, the two of them simply lay there in stunned silence for a moment.

Then, Han finally turned his head toward Zephyr. His eyes were filled with confusion as he pushed himself up and brushed the dust from his clothes, checking his injuries.

"Why did you fall too? Could you not see that I tripped and stop yourself in time?"
