Episode 80 – True Identity [2]
─────────────────────────────────
In the middle of a forest stood a house surrounded by various crops, farms, and barns.
The reason was that a pair of farmers lived in that forest. After spending years in the outside world, they had both decided to distance themselves from everyone and live in complete isolation.
They lived a peaceful life, far away from any civilization, enjoying the final years of their lives in complete tranquility.
However, the cries of a newborn baby could be heard from inside the house.
“Oh, darling, it’s a boy. Hahaha, it’s a boy, and he inherited my features. Look at those red eyes and black hair.”
The cry of happiness came from a black-haired, red-eyed man who was holding the newborn in his arms.
Seeing her husband jumping around happily while holding the baby, the woman immediately shouted at him:
“If you keep jumping around like an idiot and drop Khael, I’ll break your bones.”
The man immediately stopped and, as if standing before his master, dropped to his knees before handing the baby to the woman lying in bed.
Her black hair and intense golden eyes focused on little Khael.
Just as his father had said, the baby had inherited his appearance. However, when it came to beauty, he would naturally inherit that from his mother.
Khael’s red eyes met his mother’s golden eyes.
Then, a smile appeared on the woman’s face as the baby’s tiny hand wrapped around one of her fingers.
The mother smiled tenderly once again.
For a couple who lived completely isolated from humans and the other races, they had spent several years practically alone.
However, their life wasn’t boring.
Every day was filled with small joys, and overall, the two of them were happy.
But that day was different.
It was filled with a happiness, joy, and excitement they had never experienced before, because the first member of their family had finally been born.
Without a doubt, it was the happiest day of their lives.
Meanwhile, Khael might have been an ordinary baby.
There didn’t seem to be anything special about him, but there was something slightly different in his gaze.
Beyond that, he was no different from any other newborn.
However, this was Evans’s second life.
***
A long-haired man with black hair and intense red eyes gazed at the names engraved on two tombstones.
They were names he could never forget for the rest of his life.
Khael placed some flowers on the graves.
They were golden and red flowers, his mother and father’s favorites. They had died fifteen years ago.
Khael had a tired expression and deep dark circles under his eyes, while a beard had begun to cover his face.
Thirty years had passed since he was born into this world.
It was the Divine Era, Year 3589 of the Gods’ Calendar.
Khael rose from the ground and began walking away from the place where he had been born.
His gaze turned toward the golden clouds in the sky, among which cracks appeared from time to time.
“The Demigods have been venting their anger on humanity for far too long. It’s time to put an end to them.”
As his expression darkened, the memory of the reason behind his parents’ deaths returned whenever he thought about the Demigods.
Anger slowly began to build within Khael as devastating power emanated from his body.
In the modern world, he would be known as an Eleven-Star Awakened.
However, there was something no one knew.
An Eleven-Star Awakened was, in reality, a Demigod or a False God.
Khael disappeared as he headed toward a war that would forever change the continents of the Divine Era.
***
The sun set as the moon appeared in the sky. Night fell, and shortly afterward, day returned.
It was as if time had accelerated into the future, causing decades and centuries to pass continuously.
Life emerged and disappeared in an endless cycle, where life and death walked hand in hand.
Everything seemed to move in circles as time faded away.
Children grew into adults, while adults eventually became elderly.
Even those with lifespans of thousands upon thousands of years watched as their youth slowly faded, their young faces gradually becoming aged ones.
Divine Era, Year 30,689 of the Gods’ Calendar.
When one life came to an end, the cycle of life began anew, bringing with it new lives.
Khael had died thousands of years ago after winning a war that seemed to herald the end of a world.
However, even someone like him couldn’t survive forever after suffering injuries in such a long war.
Meanwhile, the cries of a newborn baby echoed through a palace.
Servants and butlers hurried back and forth through the enormous hallways.
Various emotions could be seen on their faces.
Some rushed around with beads of sweat forming on their foreheads, while others wore broad smiles and radiant expressions of joy.
The entire palace was bustling with activity.
The reason was simple.
The heir to an entire empire had been born.
For that reason, the maids and butlers moved back and forth as if they themselves were awaiting the birth of their own son or daughter.
Inside a room as large as a ballroom, several people surrounded an enormous bed.
They were doctors, and standing among them was a man who normally wore a serious expression.
However, at that moment, all traces of seriousness had vanished from his face.
The Emperor gazed at his daughter.
The heir to an entire Empire had been born.
Smiles appeared on the faces of the Empress and Emperor. The newborn baby was their first child.
As the firstborn, according to the traditions of the Imperial Family, she would become the next Empress.
But at that moment, neither of them was thinking about titles or responsibilities.
They were simply parents gazing at their newborn daughter.
“It’s a girl. Congratulations, Emperor, Empress.”
The doctors spoke those words before leaving the room and leaving the parents completely alone.
The Emperor simply nodded as he took the girl from the Empress’s arms.
“From today onward, your name will be Vyltra Vaal Astralis.”
That was the day the heir to the Vaal Empire was born, an Empire that, thousands of years later, would no longer exist after its fall during the First Dark Era.
And as the Emperor gave his daughter a name, Vyltra’s eyes gleamed faintly before she began crying once again, just like any other newborn baby.
This was Evans’s third life.
***
Throughout thousands of years, and even across different Eras, countless people had left their names engraved in the annals of history.
It was said that, in every Era, there had been at least hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of Awakened and heroes whose names had transcended the passage of time.
Their stories had become legends, myths, fairy tales, books, and tales passed down from generation to generation.
People who had reached such immense heights of power that they had even been capable of splitting the very heavens in half.
And even after thousands upon thousands of years, their names continued to be remembered.
Of course, there was one exception.
When an Era came to an end, the next one began as if the entire world had been given a new opportunity to start from scratch.
It was almost impossible to forget the names of great historical figures.
However, the hands of time made one thing perfectly clear: even Eras were fleeting, and sooner or later, they too would be forgotten.
Mythical Era, Year 50,987 of the Ancestral Calendar.
An Era could last for thousands of years or even several million.
Perhaps the Divine Era had lasted for twenty million years.
However, in the current Era, no one remembered that a Divine Era had ever existed.
Only the few survivors who managed to reach the end of an Era could retain such knowledge.
And naturally, when an Era came to an end, death eventually claimed almost every living being.
The cries of babies were a common occurrence in every household and every family.
“It’s a boy…”
“…. It’s a girl.”
“Hahaha, they’re twins, darling. They’re twins!”
“…Congratulations, Sir, Madam. It’s a boy.”
“Your Grace, the future Pope has been born…”
“Ring the bells, the Duke’s heir has been born….”
“Long live the Crown Prince!”
.
.
.
“Mom, is it a sister or a brother…?”
“…Well, hahaha, my grandson inherited the traits of our bloodline despite being an illegitimate child.”
.
.
.
“I heard the King’s son has been born. They say he’s a child who resembles neither his mother, the Queen, nor the King himself, but rather the King’s brother.”
“Come on, hurry. Our Lord and Lady’s Young Master has been born. Quickly, prepare the Young Master’s room!”
“Aww, look at his little face. He looks exactly like me.”
.
.
.
“She’s the Young Miss. She’s already taken her first step, and she’s also spoken for the first time.”
“How much do you want to bet that the Duke’s son will be just like the Firstborn?”
.
.
.
The moon and sun rose again and again.
The seasons passed year after year, as if they were nothing more than days.
Thousands upon thousands of years began and came to an end.
And, one after another, different Eras emerged, flourished, and eventually disappeared.

The memories of eighteen million lives, along with their experiences, emotions, and every happy or painful moment, didn’t merely appear before my eyes.
I experienced them as well.
It was as if I had never lost the memories of any of the eighteen million lives I had lived.
Multiple personalities flooded my mind as they fought against one another, as if each one were trying to seize control.
The memories flowed like rivers into a pond with limited capacity, threatening to overflow.
The faces and appearances of the different lives I had lived began overlapping with one another, blending together with my own face.
And as millions of years of memories and experiences continued pouring into my mind…

Countless system notifications overlapped with one another, appearing without rest, as if they would never end.
The passage of time around me began to feel increasingly distant, to the point where I completely lost track of how much time had passed.
It was as if, millions of years ago, I had stopped counting how much time had passed since the first memory entered my mind.
