The Broken Halo

Chapter 571: One Of The Ingredients

Merath took a step back, barely dodging the tip of the shadow blade by an inch.

However, she didn’t care about the fact that the shadow blade had nearly killed her along with Simon.

All her attention was on Simon, and she could not hide the bright smile beneath her mask.

She threw Simon on the floor like a ragdoll, then she removed her mask and let it fall on the floor too.

Her wide smile and the satisfaction in her eyes could no longer be hidden as she stared at Simon.

"Finally. I wanted you to die by my hands, and I’ve finally achieved that."

Simon’s eyes were wide open in shock and disbelief, and his lips closed and opened repeatedly but no words escaped his lips.

Merath approached Simon, then she crouched before him with the same smile.

"How does it feel to be fooled and to be at death’s door?"

Simon looked at her, then he finally spoke.

However...

"Me-rath."

... The voice Merath heard was not that of Simon’s but Jorra.

Her pupils constricted violently.

"What?"

A second later, a black mist suddenly appeared on ’Simon’s’ body and Merath instantly fell on her butt and crawled backward in shock and disbelief.

"What? No. Jorra?"

In front of her was no longer Simon but Jorra.

Her brain shut down for a moment, her mind was overcome with confusion and disbelief, and her heart rate rose sharply.

"An illusion. This has to be an illusion. Yes. It’s definitely an illusion." Merath mumbled repeatedly, then she looked around.

She was hoping to see the real Merath alive and dodging Sunless’ attacks, but her pupils suddenly constricted violently when she saw Simon laying on the floor close to a boulder.

His sky-blue eyes were staring right at her with an utterly cold and indifferent gaze, and the broken black ring in his eyes were glowing and rotating slightly.

However, Merath was not looking at Simon’s eyes.

Her gaze was on Simon’s chest, his body, and the fact that he was alive and breathing.

Immense fear gripped her heart, and she forgot to breathe for a moment.

She turned and looked at Jorra, and her words got stuck in her throat.

Eventually, she forced them out.

"Jorra?"

However, there was no response from Jorra because he was dead.

Even though the shadow blade had not stabbed his heart or his head, Sunless was a Demon King.

Her demonic energy was too potent and too powerful for Jorra to handle.

The moment he was stabbed in the chest which was also a vital part part of his body, it didn’t take long for him to die.

Merath approached his corpse while furiously shaking her head in shock and disbelief.

"No, no, no, no, no."

She touched his body, then she shook it, but no matter how many times she shook his body... Jorra did not respond.

"How? How? HOW?!"

BOOM!

Merath’s aura exploded, and her eyes black eyes instantly turned red.

Her white hair rose like it was being pulled by the sky, and a bloody aura instantly filled the air around her.

Sonya and Akaza looked at Merath with slightly wide eyes and also confusion.

Before Jorra’s death, they were confused when Merath suddenly grabbed Jorra from the ground and started carrying him like he was helpless and weak.

They thought Merath saved Jorra because of the shadow arrow that nearly killed him, but when she didn’t let go of him even after he asked to be let go of, they were confused.

They became even more confused when Merath used Jorra as a shield and was seemingly happy about it.

But when they looked at Merath’s current state and Simon, they were able to put two and two together, and they realized that Simon did something.

They didn’t know what, but it was obvious that Simon was the reason for Jorra’s death and Merath’s anger.

"HOW DID YOU FOOL ME?!"

"HOW DID YOU MAKE ME KILL HIM?!"

Merath roared while looking at Simon.

Simon smirked in response.

"I believe you should watch your back instead of looking at me."

Merath wanted to speak, but her pupils suddenly shrunk as she felt a threat to her life.

Without hesitation, she moved to the side, dodging two shadow arrows that pierced the air of where she previously stood.

Merath’s eyes flashed with madness and anger, then she glared at Sunless.

"FUCK OFF OR I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU!"

Sunless looked at Merath, but her black eyes were somewhat blank and in a daze.

"What? Kill? Me? You?"

Sunless tilted her head to almost 90° with a wide and distorted smile, making her look even more demonic than before.

"Hehehehehehehe!!!"

She laughed strangely, then she roared in anger.

"DIE FOR ME!!!"

Dozens of weapons flew toward Merath whose eyes could not help but widen.

Some of the weapons were incomplete, some had very little demonic energy and shadow energy, and some were perfectly created.

Merath had spoken out of anger, but after sensing Sunless’ power, she suddenly realized that she had fucked up.

"Fuck."

The moment Merath cursed, Sunless released the dozens of weapons on her, and Merath ran and dodged for her life.

Luckily for her, Sunless’ aim was horrible because of the Eternal Mind Maze in her mind.

Merath was able to dodge many of her attacks, but she was still furious.

She wanted to approach Simon, but Sunless’ attacks was making it difficult for her to do so.

In the distance, Sonya and Akaza heaved sighs of relief because the pressure on them had drastically reduced after Merath drew Sunless’ attention.

As for Simon, his eyes flashed with a cold and calculating glint as he observed the two demonesses.

With a thought, the Chaos Wraps on his right hand moved and wrapped themselves around Jorra’s corpse.

Then he pulled the corpse toward himself.

The moment the corpse was in front of him, he wasted no time sending it into his spatial ring.

’Good. Now, I have the heart of a daemon for the transformation of my one-horned demon bloodline.’

Simon’s lips could not help but curl up into a cold smile.
