The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master
Chapter 781: Master of the Finishing Blow (3)
Seeing Sheldon Caldwell’s pathetic expression, Silas Sullivan was both exasperated and amused. “I already said I wouldn’t meddle in you young people’s affairs!”
He then turned to Vera Xavier with a warm smile. “Then it’s settled. I’ll have Sheldon let you know once the paperwork is sorted out!”
Vera Xavier gave a slight nod. Silas Sullivan’s face immediately lit up. “Alright, I’m off to handle the paperwork. You young people take your time and chat!”
With that, he strode away with his secretary in tow. He was getting on in years, and seeing him walk so quickly, his secretary nearly had a heart attack, rushing to his side to make sure he didn’t fall.
Vera Xavier watched Silas Sullivan leave, stunned for a moment. She really wanted to tell him, “There’s no rush!”
But Silas Sullivan was already too far away. From the looks of it, he was clearly eager to get this matter settled as quickly as possible.
Sheldon Caldwell pursed his lips slightly. “This is the first time I’ve ever seen my grandfather take someone so seriously. Vera Xavier, you’re pretty lucky!”
Vera Xavier ignored the sour note in his tone. In truth, a warmth spread through her heart. ‘This lovely old man is my own grandfather!’
What Sheldon didn’t know was that Vera wouldn’t really oppose any of her grandfather’s suggestions, because she knew his intentions were always good.
She was happy. She felt that this whole affair had brought her closer to her relatives. ‘When I finally reveal myself as family, maybe they won’t be so shocked after all.’
She felt her gains from this performance were truly immense.
Nathaniel Nathan looked at her sparkling eyes, able to roughly guess what she was thinking. He raised an eyebrow slightly. ‘This is actually turning out quite well. His girl was doing what she wanted, her own way. In some respects, she was handling things even better than he could.’
The National Defense University was quite a distance from their villa. Nathaniel Nathan had driven his car today. Now that the large trucks had left the campus and Silas Sullivan was also gone, there was no reason for them to stay any longer.
The three of them bickered as they headed back. Sheldon Caldwell had plenty of other things he was supposed to be doing, but he was shameless, insisting on tagging along and playing the giant third wheel. He even started clamoring to go to their house for dinner!
Nathaniel Nathan finally reached the end of his rope. He pulled the car over, dragged Sheldon out of the back seat, and sped off, leaving him in a cloud of dust.
Sheldon Caldwell stood on the side of the road, grimacing. ‘Those two are heartless! They actually just dumped me in the middle of nowhere! Is there no justice in this world?!’
‘All I wanted was a home-cooked meal from Vera. Is that so wrong?’
After Sheldon Caldwell was kicked out of the car, the vehicle instantly fell quiet.
Nathaniel Nathan had never been much of a talker, and right now he was simply enjoying the quiet time alone with Vera Xavier.
Vera Xavier was also lost in thought, mulling over the day’s events and her plan, so she remained silent as well.
The late September sun in Veridia was warm and dry. It filtered through the car window, casting a warm glow on Vera Xavier. In the light, the fine, fair fuzz on her porcelain-like skin was visible. Her neck was long and graceful, and her entire bearing was one of exquisite delicacy.
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her and found he couldn’t look away. But he was driving, so he couldn’t keep staring. He broke the silence. “Do you know what the old leader’s real intention was, having you practice shooting today?”
