The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 866: Show Some Real Skills

The mother and son stood next to the front desk for a while, waiting for a server to come and give them the message.

“The kitchen is too busy. Chef Fu needs to wait a bit before he can come over.”

The boy’s mother nodded, “It’s okay, we’re not in a hurry.”

After the server left, she turned to comfort her obviously anxious son, “Understand, the restaurant’s business is too busy.”

The boy nodded and, a bit uneasy, checked the things he had brought again.

He muttered, “This, got the milk, the candy, the nut gift box, and… isn’t it a bit too little?”

The boy organized his things and suddenly felt a bit frustrated.

His mother quickly said, “It’s just a token of goodwill. It wouldn’t be good if it’s too expensive. It’s already a pile of big and small boxes, and they’re all carefully selected, all good stuff!”

Having said that, she explained in a low voice, “Too many things would be too hard to give.”

Only then did the boy stop.

In less than ten minutes, Fu Yu hurried over.

Seeing the mother and son, Fu Yu smiled and greeted them, “Looking for me for something?”

The boy’s mother said with a smile, “Chef Fu, isn’t it almost New Year? Relatives at home gave us some food, so we thought we’d bring you some. It’s just a token, not spent money.”

“I heard your family is from out of town. These are all Bei’an specialties. Just in time for the New Year, take them home and let your family taste them too.”

Fu Yu was a bit surprised, totally caught off guard.

The mother and son’s actions touched Fu Yu a bit, but he still politely refused, “No need, you’re too kind, I…”

This time, before the mother could speak, the boy quickly interjected, “Oh, don’t be polite! We’ve already brought them, just don’t mind it’s not good enough!”

After saying that, the boy didn’t wait for Fu Yu to respond, pulled his mother and started walking out, waving as they left, “If you won’t accept it, we won’t come back to eat next time!”

His mother took two steps out with him and also said with a smile, “Yes, Chef Fu, Happy New Year in advance!”

The mother and son turned around and left hand in hand.

After they had walked far away, Liu Yuqing quietly said, “Take it. I can see their sincerity. They waited for you a long time, afraid you wouldn’t accept it.”

Fu Yu glanced at the several big and small boxes stacked at the front desk and nodded.

He picked up the things to send them back to the dormitory.

They were all food and drinks, not very expensive, but full of thoughtfulness, which touched Fu Yu a bit.

This was a recognition of what he had put in before.

His good intentions being understood by others, that’s enough.

In fact, many times, it’s not about making others remember to return the favor; getting a thank you occasionally is already enough.

…

These days before the New Year, the restaurant’s business was extraordinarily booming.

In the kitchen here, the morning and evening shifts were only normally rotated in the morning. In the evening, everyone had to stay until closing time to leave.

Everyone was long used to this.

It was just that the interns, working in the restaurant for the first time, happened to hit overtime.

Zhao Meng saw that there weren’t many order tickets left, so he communicated with Gu Yunwu to let a few students leave early.

Even so, when the group of interns shared a taxi back to school, it was already close to 10 p.m.

An impressive number of students walked back to the dormitory in groups.

While walking, everyone enthusiastically discussed today’s internship experience.

“It’s so darn exhausting!” A boy leaned on his companion, dragging his feet forward.

“Me too, my arm’s almost too tired to lift.” Another boy sighed, “Sigh, since I got into the kitchen, they had me chopping, altogether I probably chopped four bags of carrots, right?”

“Is this experiencing kitchen work or using us as free labor? They said someone would guide me, but when I asked around, the person guiding me hasn’t even become a regular employee yet, isn’t that ridiculous?” Someone next to him exploded upon hearing this.

“Every day, the school just picks the nice things to say to trick us, saying internships are to let us experience the working environment in advance, to prepare us mentally, but in the end, it’s just to make us chop!”

For them, going on an internship was just to feel the workflow in the kitchen and maybe get a nice internship experience. When hunting for jobs post-graduation, it would at least make their resume look better.

For people like them, who’ve only been in school for a year, just starting to get into culinary skills, they’re in the phase of thinking they’re incredibly talented and eager to try everything.

Almost all of them had great expectations for this internship outside school.

Never in their wildest dreams did they think, while their ideals were full, reality was too bare.

Just one day, and their enthusiasm was almost all drained.

A fellow student close to Sun Mingze patted him on the shoulder, “Mingze, the Chef Fu you’re following, I heard he also graduated from our school. He should be our senior, only been working in the kitchen for a year, maybe not much experience.”

Sun Mingze was lucky today to escape the chopping job and got to stand straight doing a round of frying.

But even so, after a busy and tiring night’s work, he was feeling a bit spent.

“Don’t lean on me, my shoulder’s a bit sore.” Sun Mingze stretched his arm a bit and then said, “But he’s already handling orders and cooking, still pretty impressive. If I follow him around properly, maybe I’ll learn something.”

Sun Mingze said in a low voice, but didn’t specifically refute the other’s words.

Even though he didn’t agree, there was no need to argue. Right now, he’s feeling really tired, just wanting to go back, take a shower, and get a good night’s sleep.
