The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World
Chapter 898: Admiration and Reverence
Luo Rang clutched the purchase order tightly, glaring at the procurement officer and Duan Weijia, feeling utterly betrayed.
Duan Weijia was a chef he personally trained, and their relationship had always been good.
He never expected to be stabbed in the back by someone he trusted.
Luo Rang was burning with anger, still terrified whenever he thought of the situation.
He had been so careless, why hadn’t he thought to check the inventory in advance? Instead, he foolishly waited to set off for the provincial city and even happily washed the car the night before!
Luckily, Fu Yu discovered the problem in time. If Fu Yu hadn’t noticed the issue with this batch of goods, Luo Rang would most likely have already driven off.
Once these goods had entered the kitchen and been served to customers, if someone noticed something amiss, it would have been fatal!
Luo Rang hated himself for not being more strict over time, failing to brainwash and supervise his subordinates regularly.
When the police arrived, they saw that the cargo van driver’s hands were restrained, surrounded by several people in chef uniforms.
The police had been alerted to a mass fight, so everyone involved needed to come along for investigation and evidence collection.
The cargo van driver, who had been previously begging and cowardly, now saw the police and acted recklessly, showing no fear, becoming bold.
He shouted that he was beaten, pointing at Luo Rang as the assailant.
Furious, Luo Rang questioned him: “Do you have any decency left? Did I hit you? Today’s police intervention isn’t about that!”
“Just look at that truckload of zombie meat… You should be ashamed to shout about it!”
Luo Rang explained the entire situation to the police, with Fu Yu beside him, confirming the details: “Yes, that’s how it happened. He didn’t hit anyone, never even laid a finger!”
Four policemen arrived in response to the call, and after hearing the account, the leader, with piercing eyes, scanned the van, spotting the large bags and scattered lamb spine bones on the floor.
Even as a layperson, he could tell that the lamb bones had been frozen for too long, their quality extremely poor.
Policemen are especially sharp-eyed and quick-thinking.
He immediately understood that this was no ordinary brawl; a well-handled case could potentially expose a major shady operation.
If there’s money in zombie meat, the scale can’t be small.
With New Year approaching, the department hadn’t completed its annual tasks yet. Cracking this case could fulfill their duties and secure their bonuses!
The leader nodded to Luo Rang and Fu Yu: “Alright, whether it’s a brawl or a shady operation producing harmful food, you’ll all need to come along!”
He handed Luo Rang and Fu Yu over to his colleagues and stepped forward to check the cargo driver’s documents.
The driver met his gaze and realized he was finished.
This wasn’t the look of a regular neighborhood cop; it was the fierce gaze of a real policeman about to apprehend criminals.
This unfortunate soul gravely underestimated the department’s determination to complete its annual goals before New Year, now slumping dejectedly as he was escorted to the police car.
Besides the cargo driver, the procurement officer and Chef Duan Weijia were also taken to the police station, led by Luo Rang’s identification.
The leader ensured all involved parties were in the vehicle, then specifically spoke to Luo Rang and Fu Yu: “This frozen meat operation isn’t likely small-scale. We’ll thoroughly interrogate everyone when we return.”
It’s impossible not to inform the boss after things have escalated like this.
Before boarding the police car, Luo Rang instructed another chef to temporarily manage the kitchen, then called the boss to explain the situation in detail.
Once everything was settled, Luo Rang got into the police car and finally had a chance to speak with Fu Yu.
Luo Rang apologized to Fu Yu: “Xiaofu, I probably won’t be able to attend the annual party this time. Once you finish testifying, be sure to leave quickly, don’t let it delay your plans.”
The incident happened suddenly, no one expected it to escalate this way.
“This situation is quite serious, I must stay to see it through.”
Fu Yu was about to speak when a digital notification sounded:
[Ding! NPC godfather Zhao Meng’s long-term chain task: Achieve all set goals, surpass Che Yuhang by breaking all his accomplishments one by one. Established task (4) is to help uphold the professional ethics of chefs, task completion rewards: +100 RMB, one lucky spin, one random reward, one self-selected teaching practice classroom key.]
The rewards were quite substantial!
Fu Yu understood and smiled: “No worries, I’ll definitely help where I can, don’t let yourself get worked up over this, it harms your health.”
Luo Rang sighed and said: “Ah, thank you today. If it weren’t for you, I’d definitely be kept in the dark by these bastards.”
Fu Yu gave Luo Rang a thumbs up, sincerely praising: “Chef Luo, you’re truly impressive, authentic, a stand-up guy.”
Luo Rang shook his head, angry, with a stern face, venting his frustration internally!
Mostly he felt bad for trusting the wrong people, partly angry at Duan Weijia’s useless behavior.
The police station has been busy these days too, with New Year approaching, a bunch of fools causing trouble, numerous alarms.
