Chapter 9: Chapter 9: For a Steamed Bun, Heaven’s Chosen Battles Gou Aotian

"I got the buns, but the small meat buns were sold out. I’ll tell you about the rest after I try them."

She was from Wind and Cloud City, not far from Xiaohe Town, and had discovered this bun stall on One World Communication.

She and a friend of hers were both foodies who often split up to search for unique delicacies. Whenever they found something delicious, they would invite the other to try it.

She had noticed the post and, seeing that Xiaohe Town wasn’t far, decided to come give it a try. She was most looking forward to the small meat buns.

Without the meat buns she’d been craving, the young woman was rather uninterested in the remaining two flavors.

She had eaten countless gourmet dishes, so no matter how much people hyped them up on One World Communication, her expectations weren’t very high.

After sending the message, she opened the oiled-paper package, casually picked one out, and took a bite.

Her One World Communication vibrated. Her friend had replied.

"It’s fine. I found a delicious kind of fish here called Heavenly Flavor Fish. I’ll send you the address, come on over."

The young woman was just about to agree when her teeth broke through the bun’s white dough, and a hint of sweetness seeped between her lips.

The young woman, who didn’t even particularly like sweets, felt her eyes widen in an instant.

Even having tasted the creations of many famous chefs, she was astonished by the bun’s flavor.

"Holy shit!"

Stunned by the delicious taste, the young woman let out an involuntary cry.

But as she was only holding the bun with her mouth, it fell straight to the ground the moment she spoke.

The accident was completely unexpected.

The young woman didn’t even have time to catch it.

SPLAT!

The bun landed on the ground. In an instant, the young woman’s face fell. Her bun!

She’d only taken one bite.

After the mishap, the surroundings grew quiet.

In the strange atmosphere, the young woman looked up to find many of the other customers staring at the bun on the ground, their eyes glowing with a feral green light.

"Miss, are you still going to eat that bun?"

someone asked the young woman, their gaze dark and intense.

Their eyes were like those of a starving wolf.

"N—"

Faced with so many people whose eyes were glinting menacingly, the young woman’s reply was hesitant.

’I’m a Cultivator; a little dirt won’t harm me. Besides, at worst, I can just cast a cleaning Spell and keep eating it.’

Just as she was about to change her answer, the wind stirred.

A gust of wind sent the young woman’s hair flying into a frenzy. Pushing the strands from her face, she realized the wind was caused by the clash of Spiritual Energy from the surrounding Cultivators.

Now, no one was paying attention to the young woman. All eyes were on the ground.

’The bun’s on the ground, and she said she doesn’t want it. That means it’s fair game, right?’

The crowd’s gazes met, striking sparks that crackled in the air.

Anyone who had tasted Boss Lu’s buns could never refuse this heaven-sent delicacy.

They didn’t mind one bit that it had a bite taken out of it.

In a flash, someone made the first move.

"Mine!"

he shouted, pushing his Spiritual Power to its absolute limit as he lunged for the bun on the ground.

He moved so fast that all anyone could see was an afterimage.

"Heh, if I can’t have it, you can’t have it either!"

The man behind him, who had been slower to react, had a vicious look on his face.

’I can’t eat the bun, so you won’t either.’

"Damn it! I’m your big brother! Your actual brother! How could you pull a dirty trick on me, and use a dirty move like ’Monkey Steals the Peach’ on me."

The first man was just about to snatch the bun when a hand shot out from behind him and delivered a sharp blow.

And the one who attacked was none other than his once-favorite little brother.

His manly dignity assaulted, he collapsed to the ground, clamping his legs together to endure an unbearable pain.

"Bro, when a bun is on the line, even we brothers have to settle our scores."

’It’s because he’s my brother that I absolutely can’t let him have another bun.’

’If I can’t have it, then no one can.’

HEH HEH HEH!

The "wonderfully filial" little brother flashed a signature villainous grin.

As the two brothers "turned on each other," others seized the opportunity to surge from behind.

Just as his fingers were about to touch the bun, a smile spread across his face. However, he celebrated too soon.

"Heavenly Justice!"

BOOM!

Someone dropped from above, landing squarely on this man’s head and driving it straight into the ground.

The attacker was a young man—the very same one from yesterday who had spent a fortune on the buns and been completely won over.

Today, he was back for more.

His name was Qin Zhan, just an "ordinary" prodigy from the third-largest Sect in the Green Origin Realm, the Holy Sword Sect.

Qin Zhan stood tall, a brilliant smile on his face.

"Victory is mine!"

With a wave of his hand, the immaculate Qin Zhan unleashed his full aura, an overwhelming power that crushed the will of everyone present, freezing them in place.

Qin Zhan smirked, thoroughly pleased with himself.

’How could these mere Cultivators of Xiaohe Town possibly compete with an unrivaled prodigy like me?’

After striking his pose, he bent down, ready to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

"Huh???"

But when he looked at the ground, he was dumbfounded.

The ground was completely empty. Not even a crumb was left.

’Where’s the bun?’

’When I made my move, I intentionally avoided the spot where the bun lay, afraid of damaging it.’

’My precise control over my Spiritual Power is absolutely flawless.’

’So where did my giant bun go?!’

"Where’s my bun?"

Qin Zhan gritted his teeth, his fierce gaze sweeping over the crowd as his fists clenched with a series of sharp cracks.

’Let me find the culprit, and I’ll show them a world of pain!’

The enraged Qin Zhan looked around, only to see all the suspects shaking their heads.

"Um..."

The bun’s former owner, the young woman, swallowed nervously. "I know who the ’culprit’ is."

Under Qin Zhan’s furious glare, the young woman cautiously pointed nearby.

Qin Zhan whipped his head around and saw a large yellow dog not far away, diligently focused on its task.

With a flick of its tongue, it swallowed the bun in a single gulp.

The way it wolfed down the food made Qin Zhan want to march right over and give Dahuang a good few slaps.

’Stealing my bun is one thing, but to eat it so crudely!’

’Savoring. Do you have any idea what it means to savor your food?’

With the bun in its belly, Dahuang noticed Qin Zhan’s stare and opened its mouth wide.

"WOOF WOOF WOOF!"

It was incredibly excited.

As a stray, Dahuang’s intelligence had been greatly enhanced by living in a world full of Spiritual Energy.

From the very first day Lu Wu set up her stall, it had discovered the drool-worthy delicacies here. But there were too many powerful humans, so it could only hide in the shadows and bide its time.

As the Long Aotian of the dog world, Dahuang had always believed it was special.

’He had the potential to become a Great Emperor. Sooner or later, he would ascend to the throne as the supreme Dog Emperor. When that day came, he, the Dog Emperor, would definitely capture that Boss Lu and make her cook buns exclusively for him.’

After lurking for several days, it had finally gotten the opportunity it had been dreaming of.

’While those foolish humans were fighting for victory, I used the crowd as cover to sneak over.’

’When that pretentious human drew everyone’s attention, I snatched my prize and ran.’

’Anything that falls on the ground belongs to the dogs. That is the supreme law of the canine world.’

"You’re mocking me, aren’t you?"

Qin Zhan could see the contempt on the dog’s face.

As a chosen prodigy, how could Qin Zhan ever have suffered such a humiliation? He spoke with vicious intent.

"Go to hell!"

Taking a long stride forward, Qin Zhan attacked.

Today, he would teach this thieving dog the consequences of touching his things.
