The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign

Chapter 307: Graveyard of a Hundred Pillars

Kael headed toward the pillar of flames.

The massive column of fire dominated the Void Realm’s sky—visible from every region, every continent, every corner of the pocket dimension. It burned day and night, a beacon drawing cultivators like moths.

He wasn’t alone. Hundreds of figures moved across the landscape—flying, running, riding beasts—all converging on the same point. Kael traveled on foot, killing beasts along the way, absorbing two more worthy souls into the Netherworld Soul Locking Flag.

25/100.

He had considered finding Rue and Sage first. His tracking runes still connected him to them—they were far to the northwest, but moving. Heading in the same direction toward the flame pillar.

A few days passed. Kael crossed two continents with lightning speed, passed dozens of cultivator groups, and killed more beasts than he bothered to count.

With his mana reserves and physique, continuous travels like this pose no strain to him.

Then he heard the sounds of combat.

CLANG. CRACK. FWOOOSH.

Ahead—in a rocky valley between two mountain ridges—a group of four cultivators surrounded a single figure. Kael’s soul sense swept the area.

Four attackers. Three men, one woman. Three at Peak Mana Heart. One at Mana Heart Rank 8.

The surrounded figure—Peak Mana Heart.

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

Yenna Frostveil.

She was battered. Her combat attire was torn—rip—blood staining the fabric across her left shoulder. Her ice-blue hair was disheveled, stuck to her face with sweat and blood. A wound on her thigh leaked steadily—drip—and her mana was fluctuating. She’d been fighting for a while.

Kael moved.

CRACKLE—ZIP.

Lightning Body. Thunder God Flash. Two speed techniques stacked. Kael crossed the distance in a heartbeat—appearing behind the Mana Heart Rank 8 cultivator.

The man didn’t even have the time to turn as Shadow Slayer separated his head from his shoulders.

SHING.

Thud. Blood erupted—splurt—from the stump. The body crumpled.

The other three froze.

Kael smirked. "Guys, didn’t your mammas ever teach you never to raise your hands on a lady?"

He turned to the woman in the group—Peak Mana Heart. She stared at him with wide eyes.

"Unfortunately," Kael said, his smirk widening, "that rule doesn’t apply to me since I didn’t grow up with a mama."

One of the remaining men—broad-shouldered. His face was red with anger.

"Hey shithead, who the fuck are you? We ain’t got any problem with you. So just go away, man. We just want something from the lady."

Yenna looked at Kael. "Well, you seem to have had it easy so far."

Kael looked at her as he smiled.

"And you look like shit. I wonder what Cassian would say."

Yenna snorted. Pfft. "I didn’t ask for your help."

"No matter. Let’s take care of these bastards first."

One of the men moved. He appeared behind Kael—whoosh—frost gathering around his fist. An ice cultivator. His fist rocketed toward Kael’s spine—crackle—condensed ice energy sharpening the blow.

Kael sensed him. His soul sense had tracked the man’s movement from the moment he shifted.

Kael turned. Flicker. His hand caught the man’s fist—grip—mid-strike. The ice energy crackled against his palm—fzzzt—but his Tier 5 body absorbed it without flinching.

The man struggled. His face went red—strain—veins bulging on his neck.

"Let go, you fucker—"

Kael kneed him in the stomach.

SLAM.

The man’s eyes bulged. Blood erupted from his mouth—cough—splattering across Kael’s black combat attire. Splatter.

"Shit," Kael said flatly. "Now, you got my cloth all dirty."

He released the man’s fist and fired a Soul Severing Blade—infused with Slaughter Intent and soul power—SLASH—directly into the man’s consciousness.

AGH—!

The man’s eyes went blank. He collapsed—thud—his soul damaged beyond recovery. His body went still.

The woman and the two remaining Peak Mana Heart cultivators stepped back. Fear flickered across their faces.

Yenna moved.

"ICE ZONE!"

WHUUUM!

A 100-meter dome of ice erupted from Yenna’s body—crackle-crackle—engulfing the battlefield. The temperature plummeted—hiss—frost spreading across the ground, the walls, the air itself. Ice crystals formed in the atmosphere—shimmer—creating a blinding white haze.

She raised her sword. Frost intent blazed along the blade—hummm—and something deeper.

Ice rule power.

She attacked. Her sword swept through the ice zone—shing—moving at speeds amplified by her frost intent. The fire-affinity woman barely raised a barrier—vvvm—before Yenna’s blade shattered it.

CRACK.

"FWOOOSH!" The woman launched a desperate fire blast. Yenna cut through it—slash—her frost-infused blade splitting the flames.

One of the men—the earth cultivator—slammed his palms into the ground. WHUUUM. Frost golems erupted from the ice-covered floor—crack-crack—three of them, each three meters tall, formed from compressed ice and stone. He seemed to have a dual affinity.

Yenna didn’t slow down. She dodged the first golem’s fist—whoosh—cut its leg off—shhk—and watched it collapse. The second golem grabbed for her—she severed its arm—slash—then its head—shing.

The third golem was destroyed by a single thrust through its core.

SHHK.

This... the woman thought, backing away.

Yenna stopped. Her aura shifted—thrum—becoming something heavier.

She murmured.

"The sky is sealed in rime, and the earth is a monument to all that must die. Welcome to your eternal winter."

"Reality Annex: Graveyard of a Hundred Pillars."

WHUUUUUM.

The Ice Zone dissolved—replaced by something far more terrifying. Yenna’s domain.

The battlefield transformed. Hundred-meter pillars of ice erupted from the ground—CRACK-CRACK-CRACK—each one twenty meters tall, radiating concentrated frost rule power. The temperature inside the domain dropped to levels that made the Frost Zone feel warm by comparison.

The air itself became hostile. Each breath was a knife of frozen crystals that cut the lungs from the inside. Hiss. Hiss. The woman gasped—cough—blood trickling from her lips as ice crystals shredded her throat.

"She has a domain?!" one of the men shouted—his voice panicked.

After almost two years since the inter-academy tournament, Yenna had refined her domain extensively. She had incorporated her second-step ice rule power into it—making it far more dangerous than it had ever been. The domain wasn’t just ice anymore. It was conceptual cold. The concept of winter itself, weaponized.

Frost crept around their bodies—crackle—encasing their feet, their legs, their weapons. They couldn’t move. The cold was absolute—bypassing mana barriers, bypassing body cultivation, reaching directly into their bones.

Yenna rushed forward. Her sword—infused with frost intent and ice rule power—moved like a whisper.

SHING.

The woman’s head separated from her body. Thud. Blood froze mid-spray—crackle—turning to red ice crystals before hitting the ground.

Kael watched from the sideline—impressed. He stood over the Peak Mana Heart cultivator he’d incapacitated earlier. The man’s body was wrapped in dark chains binding him completely. He begged—please, please—but Kael ignored him.

Her domain control has improved significantly. The integration of rule power into the domain framework is seamless. She’s been training hard.

Yenna turned to the remaining two. They were frozen from the waist down—creak—unable to move. Their faces were blue—frost forming on their eyelashes, their lips, their nostrils.

Two strikes. SHING. SHING.

Both bodies collapsed. Thud. Thud.

Yenna closed the domain. Fzzzt. The ice pillars dissolved. The temperature normalized as the frost retreated.

Her face went pale—white—and she swayed. Sway. She caught herself on her sword—cling—using it as a cane.

Unleashing a domain—even for just one minute—at their level was straining. Both for the body and the mana meridians. The cost was visible—Yenna’s hands trembled—shiver—and her breathing was ragged.

Hhhh... hhhh...

Kael walked up to her. "You could have asked for help."

Yenna straightened—creak—refusing to show weakness. "Well, I don’t need it." She looked at him. "Where is Cassian?"

Kael shrugged. "He’s probably in the Clock Emperor’s ruins or somewhere for all I know."

Yenna raised an eyebrow. "What Clock Emperor?"

"Long story."

"What a lame name."
