The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 794: Showing Off a Son

Xu Chongshan was a little surprised to see Leng Yuan arrive, but he quickly recovered and called for him to come inside.

“Hurry and come in. What brings you here at this hour?”

Leng Yuan stepped forward, his gaze falling on the small child in Xu Chongshan’s arms.

He was about five or six months old, old enough to be held up properly.

The little guy had fair, tender skin. With his sturdy build, he looked utterly adorable.

Seeing Leng Yuan staring at his son, Xu Chongshan immediately grinned and held the boy closer. “Sanhu, this is Uncle Leng. Say ‘Uncle’.”

How could a six-month-old possibly talk? He just gurgled and babbled, and drool started to run down his chin.

With a practiced motion, Xu Chongshan took out a handkerchief to wipe the corners of Sanhu’s mouth, his face radiating happiness.

Seeing him still staring at the baby, Xu Chongshan said with a laugh, “You should hurry up and have a kid of your own. When the time comes, Sanhu can take them out to play.”

Xu Chongshan, however, was different from the other villagers. He never believed Gu Jiaojiao was infertile. ‘Gu Jiaojiao is a doctor herself,’ he thought. ‘She knows how to treat people. How could she possibly be unable to conceive?’

He figured they simply didn’t want children yet, so Xu Chongshan’s comment was meant to be half-joking.

Leng Yuan’s eyes shifted, and he sat down next to Xu Chongshan.

“You hear more of the village gossip than I do. Have you heard anyone talking about my family?”

Xu Chongshan gave Leng Yuan a strange look. “Are you kidding me?”

Leng Yuan was at a loss for words.

“The way you two are? All the kids in the village are basically your little spies. Who would dare say a single bad word about your family?”

During the harvest this year, everyone saw those who couldn’t use the machines getting worked half to death. They were scared stiff. They’re all but swearing oaths to the heavens that they’ll never speak ill of you and your wife.

‘Is Leng Yuan trying to scare the whole village to death by asking this?’

Leng Yuan had come specifically to ask around because he was worried his dear wife was being treated unfairly. But one look at Xu Chongshan’s expression and he knew the question had been entirely unnecessary.

‘His wife is pretty fierce, huh!’

‘But that’s a good thing. At least she won’t be bullied.’

His worries eased, Leng Yuan was about to relax when he saw Sanhu pee all over Xu Chongshan. He stood up, a look of distaste on his face.

“Are all small children this much trouble?”

‘If it’s not drool, they’re peeing all over you.’

Xu Chongshan was long used to it. He’d been frantic and clumsy with his first son, but this was his second, so he was completely accustomed to it by now.

“It’ll be the same way when you have a child.”

Leng Yuan couldn’t help but sink into thought.

‘What’s the point of having a kid?’ was his first reaction.

‘To monopolize his wife’s time? To steal his wife’s attention? To soak up all his wife’s affection?’

He wasn’t pleased with a single one of those prospects.

‘But then again,’ he thought, ‘what if he had a miniature version of his own dear wife? Someone with the same fair, tender skin, delicate features, and bright, dewy eyes, who would call him ‘daddy’ all day long.’

‘That didn’t seem so bad after all.’

Leng Yuan shot another look of distaste at Sanhu, said his goodbyes to Xu Chongshan, and stood up to leave.

‘A son? Forget it. If he were to have a child, it would have to be a sweet daughter.’

Xu Chongshan had no idea what to make of Leng Yuan suddenly showing up, asking a baffling question, and then abruptly leaving.

He didn’t have time to ponder Leng Yuan’s strange behavior right now. His son had peed on him; he had to change the boy’s clothes, and he needed a change of clothes himself.

On his way back, Leng Yuan took a side path. He didn’t run into any gossiping aunties, but he did run into Leng Qiushou.

He was standing alone not far from the pigpen.

He had studied the trade for some time and could have made a real career for himself at the pigpen. But who would have thought he’d end up angering Gu Jiaojiao and losing the job?

Now, all he could do was watch from a distance.

Leng Qiushou took a drag from his cigarette, turned his head, and met Leng Yuan’s profound gaze.
