The Devil’s Reign:The first law of void
Chapter 65:The Devil’s Vacation on The Yangtze River
Moonlight danced upon the water like silver scales, and hundreds of lanterns illuminated the massive passenger ship drifting downstream.
Music echoed through the decks.
Dancers spun gracefully.
Laughter filled the air.
Nobles drank expensive wine.
Merchants discussed business.
Commoners chatted excitedly.
For most people aboard the ship, it felt like a vacation.
Little did they know…
The Devil had boarded their ship.
And before the night ended, terror would walk among them.
The ship itself was divided into two worlds.
The upper decks belonged to royalty and nobles.
Luxurious rooms.
Golden decorations.
The finest liquor.
Beautiful dancers.
The best food money could buy.
The lower decks belonged to commoners.
Cramped rooms.
Cheap meals.
Dirty bedding.
They were treated as little more than cargo.
The difference between the two sections was like heaven and earth.
And because of that difference, conflict was inevitable.
A young commoner accidentally looked at a princess while carrying food.
That was all.
One glance.
One mistake.
CRACK!
A guard punched him in the face.
The commoner collapsed.
Another kick.
Then another.
Blood spilled onto the wooden floor.
"How dare you look directly at Her Highness!"
The man begged.
"I-I didn't mean to—"
CRACK!
A kick broke his nose.
Nobody dared interfere.
Everyone lowered their heads.
Because everyone knew the truth.
The lives of commoners were worthless compared to nobles.
At the side of the ship, however, one person couldn't care less.
A young man was lying dangerously close to the edge of the railing.
One leg hung in the air.
One arm rested behind his head.
His black hair fluttered in the wind.
His crimson eyes lazily watched the moon.
As if the entire world meant nothing to him.
Lucifer Morningstar.
The Devil himself.
The screams nearby didn't even make him blink.
Saving people was something he knew how to do.
He simply didn't care enough to do it.
After all…
Every person chose their own fate.
A few moments later, footsteps approached him.
It was one of the ship's waitresses.
She looked around twenty years old and wore simple clothing.
Seeing him lying on the edge of the boat, she frowned.
"If you keep lying there, you'll fall because of the river currents."
Lucifer didn't even move.
"I won't fall. Chill out."
The waitress twitched.
What kind of answer was that?
"Fine."
She crossed her arms.
"Whatever. Don't think the ship will stop even if you fall."
"Yeah, yeah. Don't nag me."
A vein popped on her forehead.
This man was insufferable.
She turned around and left immediately.
Lucifer watched her leave.
Then yawned.
Chirin's voice suddenly sounded.
"This is strange."
Lucifer nodded.
"Yeah."
Chirin blinked.
"You agree?"
"The river has a lot of fish. We should catch some."
Silence.
"I'm not talking about fish, you idiot!"
Lucifer covered his ears.
"Could you calm down? What's bothering you so much?"
Chirin sighed.
"Don't you think it's strange? Royals and nobles hate traveling with commoners. They act as if commoners are beneath them. So why are they all sharing one ship?"
Lucifer didn't answer.
Instead, he took out a fishing rod he had borrowed from an old fisherman earlier.
"Now…"
He threw the hook into the river.
"Let's start fishing."
Chirin wanted to cry.
A mystery was unfolding.
A conspiracy could be happening.
And this lunatic was fishing.
Hours passed.
The moon climbed higher.
Then—
Tug!
Lucifer's eyes lit up.
"I got one!"
Splash!
Another.
Then another.
Then another.
Soon, several large fish were lying beside him.
Lucifer's face glowed.
"They look delicious."
Chirin sighed.
"You're hopeless."
"No."
Lucifer smiled.
"I'm hungry."
Unfortunately…
Finding someone to cook them was another matter.
The cooks on the ship had all been reserved by the nobles.
No one was willing to prepare food for commoners.
Lucifer walked around for nearly thirty minutes.
Nothing.
His smile gradually disappeared.
An ominous aura appeared around him.
"Should I kill everyone on the upper deck?"
Chirin sighed.
"There it is."
"The murderous thoughts."
Just then—
"Let me cook them."
Lucifer turned.
It was the waitress from before.
She stood there with her hands on her hips.
Lucifer looked her up and down.
"You can cook?"
The waitress froze.
Then she became furious.
"I'm trying to help you, and you're doubting me?!"
She turned around.
"I'm leaving!"
At that exact moment—
Grrrrrr…
Lucifer's stomach growled.
The waitress stopped.
Slowly.
She turned around.
The Devil himself looked embarrassed.
A few moments later…
A small fire was lit using stones.
The commoner kitchen wasn't available, so this was how ordinary people cooked.
The waitress expertly cleaned the fish.
She added spices from her pouch.
The aroma slowly filled the air.
Sizzle…
Sizzle…
Lucifer's eyes sparkled.
"It smells amazing."
A few minutes later, the fish was done.
Lucifer took one bite.
Then another.
Then another.
His eyes widened.
It was delicious.
The waitress grinned.
"I'm eating too."
Lucifer froze.
"What?"
She crossed her arms.
"Why do you think I helped you?"
"Fine."
Lucifer sighed.
"But don't eat more than one."
She snorted.
"Like I'll listen to you."
"Those are my fish!"
"And my spices!"
Meanwhile…
Chirin was secretly eating the most.
Lucifer pointed at him.
"Hey! Leave some for me!"
On the upper deck…
Several young nobles watched the scene below.
Their faces were filled with disgust.
One prince sneered.
"Look at these pigs."
He swirled his wine.
"They eat without manners."
A cruel smile appeared.
"Let's have some fun."
Everyone laughed.
Humiliating commoners was entertainment to them.
Then their eyes landed on Lucifer.
Unlike everyone else…
He wasn't afraid.
He wasn't bowing.
He wasn't even paying attention to the nobles.
It looked as if he were truly on vacation.
The prince's smile disappeared.
He hated that.
He walked downstairs.
His guards followed.
The entire lower deck became silent.
The prince stopped before Lucifer.
"Oi, mongrel."
No answer.
Lucifer was eating.
"How dare you eat without bowing before me?"
No answer.
Lucifer was still eating.
The prince's face turned red.
Everyone began whispering.
"It's over."
"That commoner is dead."
"He should've bowed."
The prince gritted his teeth.
"Throw his food into the river."
The guards moved.
But before they could even touch the fish—
WHOOSH!
Three guards suddenly flew through the air.
SPLASH!
They landed in the river.
Silence.
Nobody understood what happened.
The prince blinked.
"What…?"
Both the upper and lower decks stared at Lucifer.
The Devil finally raised his head.
He looked annoyed.
"You almost touched my food."
The prince trembled.
No one had ever dared speak to him like that.
"Kill him!"
The guards charged.
"You should've submitted peacefully!"
"Don't blame us for not showing mercy!"
The waitress panicked.
"Stop!"
But Chirin stopped her.
"They provoked the wrong person."
She looked confused.
"What?"
Chirin sighed.
"Now not even God can save them."
The battle began.
The guards attacked.
Slash.
Slash.
Slash.
Yet…
None of their swords touched Lucifer.
He casually dodged every attack while continuing to eat his fish.
Left.
Right.
Side-step.
Another bite.
Another dodge.
It looked less like a fight…
And more like an adult playing with children.
The prince became hysterical.
"Kill him!"
"Why can't you kill one person?!"
The guards wanted to cry.
They couldn't even touch him.
Finally…
Lucifer swallowed the last bite.
He stood up.
Wiped his mouth.
Then smiled.
"Playtime's over."
The guards suddenly felt chills.
A moment later—
SPLASH!
SPLASH!
SPLASH!
One by one…
Every guard flew into the river.
The prince's face turned white.
His entire body trembled.
Lucifer slowly walked toward him.
Each step felt heavier than a mountain.
An ominous aura spread.
For the first time in his life…
The prince felt fear.
Real fear.
He unconsciously knelt.
Lucifer looked down at him.
"I don't understand."
The prince looked up.
"Why are you all so arrogant…"
Lucifer's crimson eyes glowed.
"...when you don't even have the power to back it up?"
The prince's lips trembled.
"I… I was born different from you people."
Lucifer crouched before him.
"Different?"
He smiled.
"If I take away your title…"
"If I take away your kingdom…"
"What are you?"
Silence.
The prince couldn't answer.
Because he knew.
The answer was simple.
Nothing.
Just another weak human.
Lucifer leaned close and whispered:
"Know your place."
"Lowly human."
The prince's entire body shook.
Lucifer stood up and turned away.
He had already made his example.
No one else on the ship would dare provoke him tonight.
Or so he thought.
A gentle voice suddenly sounded.
"I like your boldness."
Everyone looked up.
A beautiful princess from another kingdom slowly descended the stairs.
Her eyes remained fixed on Lucifer.
A mysterious smile appeared on her lips.
"Would you like to talk somewhere quiet?"
