The Don's Deadliest Obsession

Chapter 132: Rule Spain.

  • Next Chapter

Three hours and seventeen minutes.

That’s how long it took before Rocco finally declared the procedure complete.

Three fucking hours of standing around in my basement, listening to the occasional instructions he barked at Daneil.

Now, it’s finally over and thankfully, it was successful.

Rocco strips off his gloves and wipes his hands before carefully picking up the sealed medical container holding the kidney. He looks exhausted, but there’s a satisfied expression on his face.

"Well, that was fun."

I stare at him.

"Your definition of fun is concerning."

He chuckles.

"Your entire existence is concerning, Lysander."

"Yet you keep answering my calls."

"Triple pay. That’s why."

I roll my eyes.

He approaches me, holding the container securely.

"Antonio should be fine. He’ll wake up when the anesthesia wears off, although the timing varies. I’ve done what I can here, but he’ll need proper postoperative care. And don’t forget, the transplant itself isn’t guaranteed until the hospital team completes their checks."

I nod.

"Whatever he needs, he’ll get it."

Rocco studies me for a moment, probably surprised I’m being reasonable.

Don’t look so shocked, doctor. I have my moments.

"I’m taking this to the hospital now," he continues. "Victoria’s team is ready for us. They’ll handle the transplant."

"Good."

He starts walking toward the exit, with Daniel trailing behind him, carrying the remaining equipment.

Just before they reach the door, Rocco turns around.

"You know this is triple my usual pay, right?"

I wave him off.

"Yeah, yeah. I’ll have Fernando wire you."

"Make it four times if I have to answer another call from you before sunrise."

"Don’t push your luck."

He grins.

"Always nice doing business with you."

Then he walks out.

I watch the door close behind them before finally sitting down.

My shoulder aches, my head hurts, and I smell like a mixture of blood, sweat, and chemicals.

Wonderful.

I pull out my phone and check for updates from the hospital and the house.

Nothing yet.

I send Rocco a message telling him to keep me informed, then put my phone back in my pocket.

The basement door opens again, and I look up to find Jeremiah walking in with several police officers.

Ah. Right on time.

I rise from my chair and straighten my jacket.

We exchange brief nods.

The officers spread through the room, checking the surroundings before approaching the two unconscious Hamilton brothers. Antonio remains on the table, while Salvatore is still slumped in his chair... he woke up sometime during Antonio’s surgery but I punched him right back to unconsciousness.

The sight of them makes me smile.

Look at that....Two of the most feared men in the country, reduced to a couple of unconscious bodies waiting to be collected.

One hell of a fall from grace.

The officers secure them and begin preparing to take them away.

The chief of police, a middle-aged man with silver beginning to creep into his hair, approaches me.

"Don Sanchez."

"Chief."

He glances toward the brothers before returning his attention to me.

"You have it?"

I reach into my pocket and retrieve a small recording device, then I hand it to him.

"Everything you need."

He accepts it carefully.

On that recording, the Hamilton brothers openly confess to the president’s murder.

Well, technically, they confessed after I made their lives miserable enough to convince them that honesty was their best remaining option.

But details, details.

The chief examines the device.

"Excellent."

He looks genuinely pleased.

"With this, we should finally have enough evidence to put them away for life. These men have committed crimes across the country for years, and we’ve never been able to secure a case strong enough to keep them behind bars."

I smile.

"You’re welcome."

He extends his hand and I shake it.

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Sanchez."

"Always happy to help the authorities."

Jeremiah coughs beside me.

I glance at him...He’s trying very hard not to laugh.

The chief doesn’t seem to notice as he gives me another nod before turning toward his officers.

Within minutes, the Hamilton brothers are being carried out of my basement and into police custody.

The door closes behind them and just like that, the most dangerous men in the country have become the police chief’s biggest achievement.

Funny how things work out.

A while ago, I was brainstorming ways to get the police to turn a blind eye to my dealings.

For years, I’ve watched my father allow those bastards to sniff around our businesses, investigate our men, and interfere with matters that had nothing to do with them. He tolerated their little games, paid them when necessary, threatened them when he had to.

The police have been hunting the Hamilton brothers for years. They’re responsible for enough crimes to fill several lifetimes, yet nobody could ever get a solid grip on them.

They were too wealthy, too connected, and too careful.

Nobody could catch them.....Nobody but me.

So I offered the chief a deal.

I hand over the Hamilton brothers, along with evidence strong enough to secure their convictions and In exchange, he looks the other way when it comes to my operations.

He gets to announce that his department has finally captured two of the country’s most wanted criminals. The newspapers will praise him, politicians will congratulate him, and the public will celebrate him as the man who brought down the Hamilton empire.

His career will flourish, his promotion almost inevitable.

And I get something far more valuable than a few flattering headlines.

Silence...I’ll have my freedom to operate.

Everybody gets what they want... a beautiful arrangement, if you ask me.

Taking his kidney wasn’t part of the deal, but I mean he’s the cause of the raptured kidney in the first place. It’s only fair he gets to replace it.

Anyways...ladies and gentlemen, that’s how you get the police in your pocket.

My father was a damn pussy for letting them sniff around for so long without finding a way to make them useful.

I lean back in my chair, smiling to myself when hand lands on my shoulder.

I turn to find Jeremiah standing beside me.

"Congratulations, Capo di tutti capi."

** The boss of all bosses.**

I raise an eyebrow and he grins at me.

I glance toward the closed basement door, then back at my brother.

A slow smile spreading across my face as I stand, straighten my jacket, and smile.

"I guess I am."

I clap him on the shoulder.

"Come on, brother. We have a country to run."

I fucking rule Spain now.
