The Don's Deadliest Obsession

Chapter 136: She’s Bisexual.

  • Next Chapter

Isabella walks into the kitchen, and the moment her eyes land on Nyox, her entire face lights up.

"Nyox!"

He turns just in time for her to throw her arms around him. He catches her easily, wrapping both arms around her and holding her close.

I watch them with a small smile.

There’s something rather sweet about seeing how happy she is with him.

Nyox eventually pulls away just enough to look at her properly.

"I see you’ve added some weight."

Isabella smacks his shoulder.

"No, I haven’t!"

He chuckles, completely unbothered, and pinches her cheeks.

"It’s good to see you, Bella. It’s been a while."

Her cheeks turn pink.

"Good to see you too, bro."

Isabella finally turns towards Lysander.

"How’s Victoria?"

I mentally curse myself for not asking earlier.

With everything happening this morning, I’d completely forgotten to ask about her.

"She’s fine. She got a new kidney, and her body is healing. You can rest, Bella. She’s fine."

Isabella releases a breath and I feel a little weight leave my own chest too.

Victoria is going to be okay.

I reach for Lysander’s hand and give it a gentle squeeze.

"Thank you."

He looks down at me briefly, his thumb brushing over my knuckles. He doesn’t say anything, but I know he understands what I’m thanking him for.

Nyox, however, seems to have picked up on something.

"What’s wrong with Vicky?"

Isabella looks at him.

"She got into a little accident yesterday."

Nyox frowns.

"How little is little?"

Lysander answers without looking particularly interested in explaining.

"Ruptured kidney."

Nyox whips around.

"What?"

"It’s nothing, Nyox," Isabella quickly says. "She’s all good now. She’s fine, bro. She’s okay."

I glance towards Nyox.

His expression has changed completely. The hand holding the knife tightens around its handle, his knuckles becoming noticeably pale.

Lysander notices too.

"She’s alive, Nyox. The transplant was successful. She’s recovering."

Nyox looks between them.

"How did it happen?"

"An accident," Lysander replies.

"What kind of accident leaves someone with a ruptured kidney?"

"One that she’s recovering from."

There’s a brief silence.

Nyox looks like he wants to ask another dozen questions, but Lysander gives him a firm look.

Eventually, his grip on the knife loosens.

"Fine. I’ll visit her later."

I don’t miss the way Lysander had to reassure him several times.

Interesting.....Very interesting.

Before I can think too much about it, Aunt Susan walks back into the kitchen.

"Enough standing around. I need the table arranged before everyone comes down."

She points towards Isabella and me.

"You two, go arrange the dining table. Nyox, finish those tomatoes. Lysander, check on the chicken."

Lysander raises an eyebrow.

"Why am I checking on the chicken?"

"Because you’re standing there doing nothing."

I bite the inside of my cheek.

My husband, the terrifying Don of the Sanchez family, has just been assigned kitchen duties by his aunt.

I might actually enjoy this family dinner.

Isabella takes my hand, and we head towards the dining room.

The moment we’re out of the kitchen, I turn to her.

"Why didn’t you tell me?"

She glances at me.

"Tell you what?"

I give her a look.

"That my husband has a freaking twin brother!"

She bursts into laughter.

"Well, I thought you knew."

"How was I supposed to know? Did you expect me to wake up one morning and discover that there are two Lysanders walking around?"

She laughs harder.

"Your reaction would have been priceless, I wish I was there to witness it. You must have been so shocked."

I stop walking.

"Isabella."

She turns towards me, still smiling.

"Shocked? I nearly had a heart attack. Imagine turning around and finding your husband standing in front of you twice."

She laughs again.

I shake my head and continue towards the dining room.

Traitor..... that’s twice now,

I begin arranging the plates while Isabella takes care of the cutlery.

"Seriously, though," I say after a moment. "Why didn’t anyone tell me my husband had a twin brother?"

She pauses.

"Oh."

"What’s that supposed to mean?"

She places another fork beside a plate before answering.

"He’s kind of been a touchy subject."

I frown.

"Why?"

"Nyox left a while before Dad died. He and Father had always been at loggerheads. They never really agreed on anything."

I look at her.

"So he left the family?"

"Something like that."

"Why?"

She shrugs.

"I don’t know all the details. I just know things weren’t good between them. Nyox and Father argued a lot, and eventually he left."

I consider that for a moment.

It explains why nobody mentioned him, although I still think having an identical twin is something worth bringing up before or after marriage.

"Maybe he’s back because Lysander is Don now," Isabella adds.

I look at her.

"Do you think so?"

"Possibly."

She places the last fork on the table and adjusts it.

"I’m glad he’s back, though. I’ve missed him. Hopefully, he’s here to stay."

There’s a softness in her voice that makes me glance at her.

"Really?"

She nods.

"Lysander doesn’t act like it, but he needs him around."

I remember the way the two brothers hugged earlier. Lysander had complained about not wanting to see him, yet he’d held him close when they embraced.

Perhaps Isabella is right.

My husband might not be particularly good at expressing that he misses people.

I return my attention to the table. There’s something else I’ve been wondering about.

I wait a moment before asking.

"What’s with him and Victoria?"

Isabella turns towards me.

"Who? Nyox?"

"Yeah."

She gives me a knowing look.

"Oh. They dated for a while."

I stop arranging the napkins.

"They what?"

"Nyox and Victoria. They were together for some time."

I stare at her.

Well, that’s certainly information I wasn’t expecting.

"What happened?"

"Things fell apart when Nyox ran away."

I look at her for a moment, trying to process that.

Victoria and Nyox?

I think about the way Victoria used to tease Lysander, and how comfortable she was around me.

Then I remember something else.

"Wait."

Isabella looks at me.

"I thought Victoria was lesbian?"

She laughs.

"Oh, she is. She’s bisexual. Swings both ways."

I blink.

"Ohhhhh."

And that’s all I can say. Because what else am I supposed to say to that?

Well.

This family dinner just became a lot more interesting.
