The Don's Deadliest Obsession

Chapter 49: Be ready by Eight.

  • Next Chapter

The drive to the airport is short.

Thankfully.

After everything that happened today, I honestly don’t have the energy to sit in a car with Lysander for hours.

Lysander sits beside me, quiet as ever.

I don’t bother talking to him. What exactly am I supposed to say? Congratulations on our fake marriage? Thanks for almost giving me a heart attack at the altar? Please don’t kiss me like that again?

No.

I’ll save myself the embarrassment.

The car finally pulls up to the airport.

I know immediately that we’re not using the regular terminal. There are security men waiting for us, and one of them opens the door the moment we arrive.

I step out and look ahead.

A plane is waiting for us with the Sanchez name displayed clearly across it.

I blink.

Of course.

Why would the man who owns half of the damn city fly commercial?

Lysander walks toward the plane without saying anything and I have no choice but to follow him.

The moment I step inside, I am reminded once again that the Sanchez family does not believe in doing anything normally. The plane is spacious, luxurious, and far too comfortable for a flight that will only last about an hour.

I take a seat near the window while Lysander sits across from me.

Neither of us says anything to each other and

I’m actually grateful for that.

I don’t have anything to talk to the sicko about anyway.

The plane takes off and I watch as the ground disappear beneath us.

I pull out my phone. My thumb hovering over Olivia’s name.

I want to call her, i want to know if she and Nathaniel made it safely.

But I can’t....Not now.

If Uncle realizes she is missing, the first thing he will do is start looking for her, he won’t mind checking my call logs and I can’t risk anything drawing attention to her escape.

So I put my phone away.

I have to trust her, I have to trust that the plan worked.

She will reach out to me on the private phone I bought and registered anonymously.

I lean back in my seat and close my eyes.

About an hour later, I feel the plane begin to descend.

When I look outside again, I see Spain beneath us.

Spain.

I’ve never been here before and suddenly, the excitement I should probably be feeling is replaced by something else.

Nervousness.

I’m a little scared. I don’t know anybody here, I don’t know this place.

Back home, at least I know the people, I know who to avoid, I know who I can trust.

Here?

Nothing.

I’m going to an entirely new place with people who have known my family as enemies for years and I’m arriving as their Don’s wife.

That thought alone is enough to make my stomach twist.

The plane lands.

We leave the airport, and I immediately notice several black cars waiting for us.

Lysander walks toward the first one, a driver opens the door and I get in.

Lysander follows.

The door closes behind us, and the car starts moving.

I turn toward the window, I don’t recognize anything.

The streets are unfamiliar, the buildings are unfamiliar.

I keep looking out the window, trying to take everything in.

For some reason, I expected Spain to feel different, maybe brighter. Instead, I’m too busy thinking about the fact that I’m hundreds of miles away from home.

Twenty minutes pass before the scenery begins to change.

The busy roads become quieter, there are fewer buildings around us, then I see tall walls.

My eyebrows pull together as the car slows as we approach a massive gate.

Two guards are standing there.

The moment they see the cars, the gates open, we drive through.

And then I see it.

What the hell? The estate is huge, really huge.

I don’t even know if estate is the right word for it. It looks more like a private compound belonging to a royal family.

The property stretches in every direction.

There are trees, gardens, several buildings, and security stationed around the grounds and the main house is still far away.

We continue driving and driving and driving.

It takes several minutes just to reach the driveway.

I slowly turn toward Lysander

"This is your house?"

He doesn’t even look at me.

"Yes."

We finally reach the main building.

The car stops, before I can even open my door, Lysander is already outside.

I step out and immediately notice people waiting for us.

Lysander starts giving instructions.

"Take her bags upstairs."

One of the men moves toward my luggage.

"And show her to the room."

I watch as they take my suitcase.

Then I look at Lysander, he’s already walking away.

Who is he being all pissy for?. I don’t like this arrangement too.

I hurry after him.

"Wait."

He stops.

"Where are you going?"

"My office."

I blink.

"Okay, and where am I going?"

"To your room."

I stare at him raising an eyebrow.

"So we’re not sharing?"

"Of course not."

He looks at me like I’m insane for even asking.

"I don’t want you anywhere in my space."

I stare at him.

Okay.....Rude much?

"I wasn’t exactly asking because I wanted to share."

"Good."

"Good."

We stare at each other.

The tension between us could probably cut glass.

When he turns and walks away. I roll my eyes.

What a charming husband.

I don’t even get the chance to follow him before an elderly woman approaches me.

"Miss?."

I turn.

"Yes?"

"Please follow me."

I glance in the direction Lysander went.

He’s already gone so I sigh and follow the woman.

She leads me inside. The interior of the house is just as enormous as the outside.

Everything looks expensive, the floors shine, the ceilings are high, and the furniture looks like it belongs in some luxury hotel.

I try not to stare too much.

The woman leads me upstairs and down a long hallway before finally stopping at a door.

She opens it.

"This is your room."

I step inside.

It’s beautiful.

There’s a huge bed in the middle of the room, a sitting area near the windows, a large wardrobe.

My luggage is already inside. The woman walks over and sets a few things down.

"I will return shortly to arrange your belongings."

I nod.

"Okay. Thank you."

She smiles before turning toward the door.

Then she stops.

"Oh, and Miss?."

I look at her.

"Yes?"

"The Don instructed that you should be ready by eight o’clock."

I frown.

"Ready for what?"

She shakes her head.

"I don’t know."

I stare at her.

"That’s it?"

She nods.

"That is all he told me."

Then she walks out, the door closing behind her.

I walk toward the window and look outside.

From here, I can see part of the massive estate. Guards are stationed around the property with people moving around below.

I turn away from the window and look at my suitcase.

First, I need to unpack.

Then I’ll figure out exactly what the hell Lysander has planned for tonight.
